When and why did Friends of the Florida Panther get started? The Friends of the Florida Panther Refuge was established in 1997, and is one of over 200 Friends groups nationwide that were established to support 544 federal wildlife refuges managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Each of these grassroots organizations provides public education, for which most refuges do not have the

the refuges with local, state, and federal realms. Because federal employees are prohibited by law from engaging in any political

relevance of national wildlife refuges to citizens, ecosystems and the wildlife who use or inhabit the refuges. The Florida Panther Wildlife Refuge was established in 1989 under the authority of the Endangered Species Act to protect the Florida panther and its habitat.

What is the mission statement of the organization? Our particular Friends group is very unique in the national system because it has a dual mission. In addition to providing education and advocacy resources, we serve as the primary private sector advocate for the approximately 100 highly endangered Florida panthers left in the wild. The great majority of these rare animals are located in Collier County, and virtually all of them are living in SWFL. The Friends of the Florida Panther Refuge conducts a wide variety of adult and children outreach programs, both on and off the refuge, as well as advocacy at the local, state, and federal levels.

How many panthers remain in Florida compared to their original numbers before modern development?

with the FL Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, most historical

references are of pumas being “common and abundant”, with their range One-hundred years ago, Florida panthers roamed throughout all eight southeastern states.a theoretical estimate of approximately 1,360 having been within the present day boundaries of Florida a century ago. In the 100 years since that time, the number has fallen dramatically to only about 100 cats, using just 5% of the land area in which they originally thrived.

miles per day hunting wild hogs, raccoons, armadillos and rabbits. Other activities include territory battles, napping and mating.

A common perception is that as the panthers’ habitat is reduced, they will move into residential areas and be a threat to pets and small children. Is this true? Humans have gradually been moving eastward into areas that have historically been residential areas for panthers. There has never been

a concern that one day there may be an adverse human-panther interaction. We are an active part of an inter-agency group which conferences regularly to discuss panther outreach plans, concerns and

to educate people on the best ways to live safely in areas we all may share with wildlife such as panthers, bears, alligators and other creatures.

Panthers are reclusive creatures that prefer to remain in the comfort of the wilderness, and do not wish to interact with humans. They would certainly prefer to remain in the safety of undeveloped lands where they can avoid vehicles and thrive on deer and wild hog, their preferred prey.

Are panthers territorial and how does this trait affect them when there is less habitat? Panthers are territorial animals. Adult males are solitary, other than at mating time, and will typically have a range of about 200 square miles. Adult females will use less territory, about 75 square miles. Territories can overlap, and when panthers meet in the wild

Tell us more about the Panther Refuge and why is it closed to the public? The Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge is comprised of 26,400 acres of land located about 20 miles east of Naples on the north side of Interstate 75 and the west side of State Road 29. The Refuge is a federally protected land established under the authority of the Endangered Species Act. Managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, of the U.S. Department of the Interior, it was established in 1989 primarily to protect the Florida panther and its habitat. While most of the Refuge is closed to the public in order to allow panthers and other wildlife to live undisturbed, there are two public nature trails that are open to the public during daylight hours, 365 days of the year at no charge. Valentine’s Day

By: Renee Simmons Layout By: ThompsonTouch

Christmas has come and gone, the New Year was welcomed in grand style, and now Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. If you haven’t

already started making those all important plans for your long-time sweetie or new crush, there’s no better time to begin than right now.

You’ve been here before and you know how it works, right? A sentimental card presented with a homemade breakfast – check. Flowers delivered to her work

– check. A loving mid-day text to him hinting of a hot night to come - check. An elegant meal served in a charming restaurant…you might want to pause right here.

Detail and presentation is the key to any successful V-Day plan, and the restaurant you choose is no exception. The right or wrong ambiance will set

the tone for the entire evening, and one wrong move may even negate any hard earned brownie points. Unless your sweetheart insists on eating at a certain

restaurant for every special occasion, don’t make the mistake of repeating last year’s reservation. To ensure that your Valentine’s Day ends perfectly, read on

to discover which restaurants are being frequented by young Neapolitans.

Picture this…you arrive at the restaurant where you’re greeted by your own private butler, served glasses of champagne, then escorted to a private cabana

nestled in the white sand and featuring a pristine view of the Gulf. You are seated at a candlelit table scattered with rose petals. After a perfect meal accompanied

by the music and wine of your choice, the table is taken away, and you and your date are left alone to cuddle on the soft couch and watch the sunset.

No, this isn’t a scene from a movie or a Sandals commercial. This is the type of exquisite service you can expect with the special Beach Dinner Package at

Baleen, located in the LaPlaya Beach and Golf Resort at 9891 Gulf Shore Drive. While offered any night of the week, these packages are especially popular

during Valentine’s Day, according to General Manager Anthony Hobbs. They come at a price, $400-$600 per couple depending on the package you choose,

but the cabana is yours for the night and the experience is unmatched.

PULSE MAGAZINE ---------- 12

Page 13: current_issue

Baleen will also be offering a special couples dinner for this holiday, as well as the regular a la carte menu for which this seafood restaurant has become famous. Live music will be playing in the background, and don’t be afraid to come to them with any special requests to make your dinner unique.

“There is no request too big.” Mr. Hobbs explains. “We’ve handled some crazy requests, and pulled it off and had some fun with it.” Everything from special

popping out of bushes, there’s nothing they haven’t handled or can’t handle, so get creative! Baleen has already started taking reservations for February 14th, and while early reservations are encouraged, Mr. Hobbs assures that accommodations can be made for those who wait. Rumor has it that extensive – and romantic – renovations will have taken place after the middle of January to give the restaurant a new feel and energy. Do keep in mind that the hotel is valet only, so come prepared.

If the city is more your vibe, check out Trilogy, located at 720 5th Avenue S. Established just over a year ago, this little gem has already staked its claim as one of the most elegant restaurants in downtown Naples. It’s equipped with cozy, white C-shaped booths, bright modern art from the walls to the chandeliers, and a dark wooden bar featuring dozens of wines. With live piano music, special decorative touches, and impeccable service from a highly trained staff, Trilogy is the perfect location for a romantic evening.

The usual nightly menu will be offered on February 14th, but the cuisine is global fusion, so diversity is the key. The manager

mignon or daily seafood special, as these are considered the highlights of their menu.

While entrée prices range from $22-35, Trilogy does offer special programs for local residents, offering up to 20% off an entire check, so be sure to ask about the details of this when you make your reservation. With plenty of wine tastings and other events leading up to Valentine’s Day, you’ll have ample of opportunity to see if this is a good

making that all important phone call, last year Trilogy was completely booked three weeks prior to Valentine’s Day!

For some, a more casual sophistication may better suit their needs. Look no further than Noodles Italian Café and Sushi Bar, located at 1585 Pine Ridge Rd, which naturally lends itself to a romantic ambiance with low, golden hued lighting. You’ll be escorted through a room tastefully decorated

own high-backed C-shaped booth – the ideal setting for intimate privacy. A special set menu is being carefully prepared for this holiday, but Noodles intends to offer their regular menu full of local favorites, such as the Salmon Florentine. After dinner, sip champagne or share a bottle of wine as you enjoy the music of the live jazz band playing from 10-2am. Reservation inquiries are welcomed on January 1st or anytime after.

Campiello, located at 1177 3rd Street South in Naples, has rustic Italian cuisine

is the perfect way to relax into the evening. From the moment you arrive, the three piece jazz band playing from the balcony will help transport your senses to Italy! This year Campiello will be featuring a four

course menu for Valentine’s Day: salad/appetizer, pasta, entrée and dessert. Items are a combination of favorites from their regular menu, and specialty items the chef will prepare uniquely for this holiday. Last year, this package ranged from $70-80 per person; however, prices had not yet been set for 2009. Rest assured, with ingredients imported directly from Italy and three of their pastas made fresh in their kitchen, every dish they offer will be well worth the price.

The restaurant will start taking reservations for this holiday on January 2nd, and last year they were completely booked by the end of January. Don’t hesitate too long if you want a seat at one of their elegantly decorated tables. Keep in mind that they only take reservations for inside the restaurant. However, if the weather seems to be cooperating, they will happily open up their outside sitting area, and you can dine in the beautiful garden courtyard amongst the water fountains and partially enclosed cabanas. A perfect setting – and the perfect ending – to any Valentine’s Day plan. That’s amore!

Dear Joey,I have been with my fiancé for almost five years

and we typically get along great. Recently, I have beenreally stressed at work and find myself bringing the stresshome. I know I shouldn't and I'm working on that. Lastweek, my fiancé and I had the worst argument in the his-tory of our relationship. Even though we have both sinceapologized, I am finding it hard to move past some of thethings he said since his words were really severe and per-sonal. It is starting to affect our daily lives because I con-tinue to feel defensive and keep hearing his commentsgoing through my head. I understand that these thingswere said in the heat of the moment, but they can't betaken back now and I am having a lot of trouble movingon. What can I do? - Verbally Scarred

Dear Verbally Scarred,Many times when we are angry we say things we

regret. Typically, we take it out on those closest to us. Itsounds as though you are usually in sync with your fiancéand these verbal battles are not an everyday occurrence.Did you express your feelings about the specific state-ments that hurt you this much? Did you lash out and saythings that you regret as well? If the answer is yes, thenit is time to move on.

If you are defensive because there is an elementof truth in something he said, then you need to lookinside yourself to find that reality and address it. Becauseyour fiancé knows you so well, he is able to pinpoint theissues that hit closest to home during an argument. Trytaking some time out for yourself after work. Hit the gym, vent to friends, or write out your frustrations in a journalbefore taking them out on your fiancé.

It is time to be extra attentive to your relationship.Maybe go to sunset or do something with just the two ofyou to bring the relationship back to a normal level.Look for the good instead of the bad, and remember whyyou have been so close for so long. Make sure you havemade clear how unacceptable it is to say those harshthings to each other, and put it behind you. It's all part ofa bigger picture, which is learning about each other andgrowing together as a couple.

Ooh Jeremey, touchy subject. I should know because I'vebeen on a half-hearted diet and gym regimen since last NewYear's Eve. Yes, I've dropped a few pounds, and my "skinny"jeans fit again, but am I happy with the way I look? Nope... soyou'll still find me at the gym sweating out French fries.

It's been my experience that women in general are nevercompletely satisfied with their appearance. Even when we are, there's always another perfectly air-brushed model to take usdown a notch. I'm not saying that this all comes down to low self-

esteem, but maybe it's more the ideal imagesof perfection and beauty that are continuouslyshoved down our throats by the media. (I know, placing blame, but in my defense, I'm a womanand we’re really good at that.)

Situation: husband and wife are watchingtelevision. Jessica Alba comes on screen in abikini. Husband drools. Wife evaluates her per-fect, but definitely not flat abs. Wife feelsbadly. Husband has no idea what just hap-pened. Yes, men, this is when we get the urgeto drop those pounds. We want to be "your"Jessica Alba.

I'll admit, Jeremey is 100 percent correcton one point… you can never tell us we're fat, ora little chunky, or big-boned. None of this ishelpful, and will result in us wearing sweat pantsand baggy t-shirts to bed into the foreseeablefuture.

How can you help, you ask? I think it'seasy. First, realize that you aren't going tochange her mind by telling her how beautifulshe is. If it's in her head that she must loseweight, then lose weight she must, regardless ifit's an image or health issue. However, thereare ways to discretely help her with this task. One way, and easily my favorite, is to start beingactive with her. Not only is this a great way tobond, but you'll both get in shape. While I knowmen aren't nearly as concerned with their waist-lines, I'm sure many of you have a beer gut thatcould use some busting. Sign up for the same

gym and work-out together. Suggest outdoor activities that youcan do together: canoeing, hiking, running, skiing, surfing, swim-ming, whatever. Make it YOUR idea… because you want to toneup too, don't you?

My second suggestion (you may want to sit down for thisone): cook for her. Buy a low-cal, low-fat cookbook and test yourculinary skills. She'll think she has an amazing boyfriend wholoves her, and you'll reap the benefits of her improved self-image.I suggest "Cooking Light" cookbooks - they have delicious recipesand she'll never know your intentions. I hope this helps. We allknow the resolutions are coming. In fact, I think I need to loseanother ten pounds…

HHee SSaaiidd by Jeremey Bingham

It's the New Year, and that can mean only one thing:Resolutions. Since I already know what 90% of women's' resolu-tions will be, mine for this year is to figure out how to be helpfuland stay out of the line of fire. Losing weight is probably the mostcommon goal across gender lines and for good reason. You gethealthier, look better and have more energy. There's an enor-mous industry targeting women, trying to convince them to take apill or a drink, eat only carbs or no carbs, etc and somehow slimdown without making any real effort. That is all nonsense, ofcourse. The only real way to lose weight is todecrease your calorie intake and increase yourphysical exertion, period. That's the only thingthat works, and it constantly amazes me thatwomen will do literally anything to avoid it. Asa result, men are subjected to various torturesand crazy diets-by-proxy, almost all of whichend with their lady frustrated, angry, disappointed, and nolighter than she was before.

The main thing aboutyour weight is that men don'treally care too much about it,especially if they're already in arelationship with you. Believeme, they already think you'rebeautiful, and if they don't,there's something wrong withyour relationship that dropping afew pounds won't fix. This is notto say that men don't care aboutyour weight at all. If it's a healthissue, we care, but mostly weworry because you worry aboutit. We want you to be happywith the way you look, so youfeel sexier and less stressed. You'll have more energy, andhopefully direct some of it ourway in the bedroom. We justwant to help, to encourage youto do something good for your-self that's also good for us- it's a win win!

However, you have to understand that we can not saythat. We can't comment on your appearance, even indirectly, unless it's a positive comment. We say: "Hey, honey, how aboutwe go for a nice walk instead of dessert?" You hear, "YOU'RE FAT,YOU'RE FAT, YOU'RE FAT!" So what's a guy to do? How do wehelp you to accomplish your New Year's resolution when we can'ttalk about it in the context of the way you look, and we can't criti-cize you for latching onto a different fad diet every six weeksinstead of just cutting back a bit and exercising? How do we doall this when we don't even think there's anything wrong with you?Our only motivation is the hope that you'll feel better about your-self. How do we help you help yourself?

I recently had the opportunity to chat with in-ternational dj / producer, Mickey Nightrain, in his Naples music studio. The ami-cable thirty-year-old is animated and vivacious, yet humble. I came away with a new sense of appreciation for house music and a clearer under-standing about the music busi-ness and how the industry works. How and why did you end up in SW Florida? This isn’t exactly the hottest place in the

country for house music. No, but it’s quiet, beautiful and a great place to raise my kids. I’ve lived in big cities and had a lot of fun, but once my name started getting out there, the need to live in a big city diminished. I can

SSttrreesssseedd??Everyone has their share of stress in today's technologi-

cally advanced and fast-paced world. We are plugged into society24/7, and if you are not engaged at the moment, there is certainlya call, page, fax, email or text on the way. It is no wonder thatcountless individuals are feeling excessive amounts of pressureand anxiety. Each of us can be affected by both internal andexternal stress. Internal stress is based on societal programmingfrom family, teachers, friends, and media networks. These are theemotions governing us whether we are aware of them or not, suchas worry or fear. External stress comes from our physical environ-ment, and it is produced by the daily expectations and difficultiesthat we typically confront. These are factors that we are consciousof, such as work, personal relationships and finances. Both formsof stress can be detrimental to us mentally and physically.

Stress can be difficult to address because it is a subjectivesensation with various symptoms. The ability to handle stresseffectively is determined by overall physical and mental health.Proper nutrition combined with adequate amounts of exercise andsleep are vital components to the health and well-being of everyindividual. These are the building blocks to obtaining optimalhealth. Some examples of unmanaged stress might be weightgain, decreased immunity, and insomnia. It's also important to rec-ognize unhealthy ways of coping with stress. Certain individualsmay use anger as a form of stress relief and lash out at others. Many people internalize their stress and deal with it through addic-tion or emotional eating. Others may have been suppressing theirstress for so long that it shows up in the form of a chronic illnessthat worsens when they are under intense amounts of stress. Thekey to handling stress appropriately is to find healthy outlets.

What works for one person may not be suitable for anoth-er. If you have tried to deal with your stress and you are not expe-riencing relief, acupuncture might alleviate this unwanted tension.Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to treat a widerange of conditions. When practiced by a qualified AcupuncturePhysician, it is an extremely safe healing modality with no seriousside effects. Acupuncture works by inserting very tiny, sterile, dis-posable needles into the points of the body necessary to correctthe underlying dysfunction, and to restore the balance of the body. Most patients feel a slight sensation while the needles are beinginserted, and then do not feel the presence of the needles at all.In fact, many people are so comfortable during the treatment thatthey fall asleep. Treatment times vary from person to person, butmost acupuncture sessions take approximately 20-30 minutes.

Studies indicate that acupuncture works by releasingendorphins (natural anti-stress chemicals) into the body, therebydecreasing healing time; relieving pain and bringing the patientback to a state of health. These endorphins promote relaxation, create a sense of well-being and enhance immunity. Acupunctureis routinely and successfully used to treat stress, anxiety anddepression as well as a multitude of other conditions. It is crucialthat we find ways to deal with our anxieties instead of just coveringthem up with a substance or pretending that they do not exist atall.

he New Year and healthy eating go together like James Bond and femme fatales. People make their yearly resolutions to eat better, lose weight and start exercising. It’s almost as predictable as a Cialis commercial on the History Channel. The New Year comes and goes along with the resolutions.

Gym memberships go unused, and eating healthy is about as exciting as a kick

True healthy eating doesn’t include juice dripping burgers from Cheeburger Cheeburger, or sauce smothered General Tso’s chicken from Charlie Chiang’s, but it can still be bursting with taste, and can give you a lot more late day energy. Not to mention a smaller waist line. I’ve researched the healthy eating subject in Naples, and have found some great tasting food that will make eating healthy enjoyable and not seem like a job.

For Goodness SakeOrganic and Natural has gone main stream. However, it is one thing to promote these as part of a marketing strategy and an “image” of healthy food, and it’s another to actually follow through and use them in the food you prepare. At For Goodness Sake, with two Naples locations, 2464 Vanderbilt Beach Rd # 528

and 7211 Radio Rd, they have been dedicated to true healthy eating since 1984. Their café serves a menu full of tantalizing items that will have

you making them a regular part of your “I want to see my abs” diet. For Goodness Sake offers Fruit Smoothies that are thick, rich and made with a refreshing blend of your favorite juices and frozen organic fruits. Need a boost before your work out? Try one of their Protein Smoothies, made with a body-building blend of nutritional supplements and fruits. For Goodness Sake also serves healthy salads, organic wraps and sandwiches that include chicken, turkey and tuna. They also serve a variety of juice drinks including

TOP 10 TIPS TO IMPROVEYOUR GOLF GAME

By Jeff Gunning, PGA Professional at

The following are 10 simple tips that will help anygolfer to improve his or her game. To supplement anyof these suggestions, golfers might also consider get-ting lessons from a PGA Professional.

1. EXERCISE YOUR GOLF MUSCLES. Both precision musclesand athletic muscles need to be exercised on a regular basis. Consulta professional to begin a yoga or ongoing exercise program toimprove your performance.2. PRACTICE ALL OF THE SHOTS. Your golf swing needs tobe versatile, and the best way to make it versatile is practice, prac-tice, practice. Practice with all of your clubs and hit them differentdistances while at the driving range or short game area. 3. KNOW THE GOLF COURSE. Golf courses and holes eachhave different personalities. Be prepared for different distances, visu-als and terrains by knowing your yardages before you strike the ball.A yardage indicator is a great accessory to have in your golf bag. 4. RULES OF PLAY & FACILITY. To help improve pace, enjoy-ment level, and safety, golfers should know the various forms of play.USGA Rules of Golf speaks to many forms. Also, facilities have com-mon rules and local rules, so contact the facility to avoid any unnec-essary problems. 5. CHECK YOUR EQUIPMENT. Before a round of golf, golfersshould have the proper number of clubs and set makeup as well asballs, tees, gloves, shoes and any other necessary equipment. Afterthe round, check for lost clubs and/or damages. 6. DOES YOUR EQUIPMENT FIT YOU? Most golfers do a goodjob preparing for their round of golf, but do not realize their on-course potential because of an improper fit. A certified fitting expertcan ensure your clubs are specifically fitted to you, which willimprove your on-course performance. 7. TEE SHOTS. Select the widest part of the fairway as yourlanding area or channel. Upon choosing the proper landing area, lettempo and balance be your most important swing thought. Most suc-cessful players have a good finish position. 8. IRON PLAY. Precision and steadiness lead to good ironplay. A steady head throughout the swing and controlled hand actionare the ultimate combination for hitting the ball crisply. Practice hit-ting balls with your feet together to feel the action. 9. PROPER BALL POSITION & POSTURE. It is very necessaryto combine the appropriate muscle movement (affected by width ofstance) with proper use of clubhead (affected by ball position). Keepyour method simple, yet effective. 10. VERSATILITY = GOOD SHORT GAME. Learn to hit differ-ent scoring (short game area) shots with all clubs, including your put-ter, wedges and hybrids. It is extremely important that your putterand wedges be properly fitted in order to adjust to different courses, grasses and conditions.

CONTROL YOUR CREDIT, DON’T LET IT CONTROL YOU

Some people may start as early as in their teen years and others maywait well into their twenties before deciding to borrow money and create what we allknow as debt. With this debt comes the responsibility to pay it back and biggerresponsibility to be held accountable for any errors or payments along the way. From the moment you start borrowing money to buy items such as education, elec-tronics, transportation, or even a home, there are scorecards that keep track of yourtimeliness, and become a digital imprint that follows you through your entire life. The score range is 300-850, and where you fall in there can determine how manyhundreds of dollars you will save or spend.

What does it take to build credit and to keep your score high? Your Ficoor credit score is affected by five main factors. The first is your Payment History, which makes up about 35% of a typical score. The dates of late payments (thenewer a late payment, the more it affects your score), frequency (compare a personwho has one or two late payments versus someone who has a dozen), severity (arethey only 30 days late or have they not made a payment in 120 days). The onlytime you are reported to an agency as late is if you are late by 30 days or more.

The second most important is How Much You Owe which covers 30% ofyour score. This is the gap between each individual account on credit cards (revolv-ing debt), and across your total amount of debt combined versus how much is avail-able. The score will also look into how much you originally borrowed on installmentsloans such as cars and automobiles, and how much you owe currently. The third and fourth factors are How Long You've Had Credit and Your LastApplication for Credit. The total combined for those two accounts is 25% of yourcredit. The first focuses on the age of your oldest account (the older the accountson your credit in good standing the better), and the average age of all youraccounts. The other looks into how many accounts you have applied for, how manyhave opened recently, and the time passed since applying and opening thoseaccounts. The more credit you apply for and open within a certain amount of timecan have adverse affects on your credit score.

The fifth and final factor is something Fair Isaac has kept pretty vague, but luckily only encompasses 10% of your credit score. The types of credit that youuse play a major role in building strong credit. One certainty is that you need todevelop different trade lines, such as revolving and non-revolving accounts. A solidmix of accounts would be an auto loan, student loan, mortgage and credit cards.Just obtaining credit cards or auto loans by themselves will not push your score toperfection. A Visa, MasterCard or other major accepted credit card is typically betterfor your score than a department store card. CREDIT SCORE TIPS:1. Shop around for your auto loan and mortgage. You have 14 days from your firstcredit pull to shop as many companies as possible to find the best deal. This willonly count as one credit pull, or check. For example, go to 30 banks to get a carloan in 14 days, and it will only count as one credit pull.2. Check your credit report at least every 6 to 12 months. It doesn't cost anything, and you might find inaccurate information that needs to be addressed. This will alsohelp to curb and to fight identity theft. 3. Call every credit card you have and ask them to lower their rate for you. It does-n't hurt to ask, and you will find that they quite possibly will. I lowered my credit cardtwo months ago from a 19.99% to an 8.99% with one quick phone call.

The fa-la-la’s of Christmas have passed, but the weather outside is still frightful! After all the Christmas packages have been opened, I’m sure there is still something you “need” to keep you fashionable! Post holiday shopping is my favorite time of year. If you have any energy left after the twelve days of Christmas, now is the time to cash in all those gift cards that you pulled out of your

through the frosty winter!

The one thing that should top the list of must-haves this season is the classic Burberry cashmere scarf. Most of us can’t afford the trench coat, but just having a piece of this famous plaid will be the spark your wardrobe needs to stay cutting edge! Aside from the traditional red and black tartan, Burberry offers a delightful pastel pink or baby blue plaid to appeal to anyone’s taste. While this scarf is more expensive than other woolen scarves, it is well worth the price tag and will last you a lifetime! My mother has been wearing her traditional tan tartan scarf for thirty years and it looks brand new. My personal style steered me towards the pastel pink plaid so I could match my Burberry rain boots that Santa brought me last year! These scarves are fabulous, and can be worn casually to a football game or for a dressed up night in the city. Trust me, splurge!

I don’t know about you, but this time of year my skin needs a little more attention than in the summer months. Luckily, I have discovered two great product lines that renew and start the healing process for any skin damage. If you were lucky enough to score a Sephora gift card, Kiehls cuticle treatment and hand cream are liquid gold, luxurious in texture, and leaving no greasy residue. For the person watching what they spend, the Bath and Body works Twisted Peppermint line of lotions and bath products is one of my new favorites. This scent is intoxicating! Refreshing and crisp, the peppermint lotion is thick and creamy enough to ease even the most weathered skin. The scent lasts all day, and

the peppermint fragrance is a great pick-me-up for the winter blues.

Unless you are planning on hitting the slopes, your favorite pair of UGGs can be put away this season. Transition into warmer weather with Sperry Topsiders! Pair them with your favorite socks to keep your toes toasty and Jack Frost at bay. These versatile shoes can be worn anywhere year-round. The classic brown leather is perfect for this time of year and only gets better with age. For the summer,

spring break getaway and are perfect when

a short skirt or jeans, these will be your go-to shoes. Sperry has expanded the line to include pastels, fabrics and slides to keep you classic but trendy too. These aren’t your Grandpa’s “boat shoes”! So grab a pair now, they will be sold out by March!

Frizzy hair in winter is usually a scary monster you can’t avoid. However, with a little love, the monster can be tamed. My hair’s best friend is the CHI straightener! The usual long-stemmed “mommy” CHI is great as your bathroom staple. However, we are a traveling group of ladies. The new Mini CHI, or “baby” if you will, is the perfect size

new design is stream-lined and way more convenient to stow away for that emergency encounter with your ex. Offered in a variety of colors and designs, it is very easy to personalize your new best friend. Just as in yoga, you need to channel

that means jeweled encrusted, you go, girl!

Make the most of your winter with these little treasures, and turn the next few months into a wonderland. I have always got my eye on the next big thing, so here’s to looking forward to spring!
