1) Councilmember Dyer ‘thanked’ the MBC for all of their work. Councilmember Dyer is working on a system to bring the local universities together to create a consortium that will provide interns and research that will help the small business community. Virginia Beach could be the prototype for what other cities should be doing. The city’s budget has passed and there will be less money from the federal government and the state. Localities will have to create new wealth and that means creating new businesses.

2) Ms. Caldwell provided information regarding the ‘Beach Girls Rock’ event. She stated the event was very successful with over 215 young ladies in attendance and 94 parents. Her position has been posted and will close on May 20, 2016. She will be attending the MBC retreat on June 10, 2016.

3) Ms. Phillips stated the semi-annual report contains a lot of information especially with the purchase order and award data.

Ms. Guerrier asked the MBC members for their support of the Procurement Opportunity Council (POC), members would like to ‘table’ the vote for support of the POC until they have had ample time to review the POC and the process.
