Approval of minutes from October meeting: Corrections: L/S should read landscaping. Motion made to approve the minutes and seconded. Motion Passed. Distinguished Lecturer: Charlie Hall Date set for Wednesday, October 16, 2013. Potential lecturers include Texas Agriculture Commissioner, Todd Staples; SAF

Government affairs, Drew Gruenburg, and Craig Regelbrugge with ANLA. Future Role: PJ Ellison-Kalil

Given that the advisory committee has fulfilled much of its mission (as outlined in the bylaws), PJ wanted everyone to think about what the future role of the advisory committee could be so we could discuss it at the Oct. meeting.

PJ will put together a summary of what we have accomplished so far and get it distributed to us.

Ex Officio Updates Amy Graham - TNLA

Texas Water Smart Program Hort. Synergy Summit. Hort. related associations got together to open a line of

discussion on similar issues. Next meeting May 30th. Dianna Nordman - TSFA

High school certification. Social media as a marketing tool.

o Grant money used to …stop “in lieu of flowers”; create a video showing the importance of plants and flowers at funerals; and attend the Funeral Directors Convention

Richard De Los Santos – TDA GoTexan campaign growing Discussed TDA activities at the State Fair. The Specialty Crop Block Grants were used for advertising Valentines Day,

landscaping, watermelon and vegetable crops. Universities now have to work with a commodity group to get Block grants.

Projects Update: Charlie Hall

A complete listing of Chair activities is in the attached update report. The Specialty Crop money is gone. Looking for money for water-related research. AFE & ANLA Grants. Importance of water conservation at the retail level. Educational meeting put on by OFA & ANLA called “Next Level”. The inaugural Executive Academy for Growth & Leadership (EAGL) has 10

people involved & held first meeting. Seeley Conference 2014 will concentrate on water issues. A plethora of water information is on the Ellison Chair website.
