SELECTED REPORTS AND RECOGNITION 7.1 Student Recognition - Academic Pentathlon Bryant Bobcats did a fantastic job at their first Academic Pentathlon! We had two 8th Grade Teams, one 7th Grade team and two 6th graders compete. Altogether, this group worked together to learn new material centered around World War II. All teammates worked hard to help one another succeed. We are very proud of their accomplishments and hope to watch this program grow. Appearing on the transcript of the graduating senior, the Seal of Multilingual Proficiency is a verification of linguistic

Partnering Districts include Dos Palos-Oro Loma Joint Unified School District, Atwater High School, Delhi Unified School District, El Capitan High School, Golden Valley High School, Hilmar Unified School District, Livingston High School, Le Grand Union High School District, Gustine Unified School District, Merced Union High School District, Buhach High School and Los Banos High School, and Pacheco High School. Merced County Office of Education received a total of 831 student applications from the 13 participating school districts. This year, 287 students will receive the Seal of Biliteracy, which is our highest number yet! DPHS had 18 students attending the ceremony. According to Sun Star News, Cabrera didn’t disappoint those who made the effort to come out, pouring in an unofficial state-leading 61 goals according to MaxPreps in just 22 contests. The striker helped Dos Palos win its first girls soccer conference crown in school history and then scored four goals in a 5-4 playoff victory over Lindsay, also the first in school history. The incredible season earned Cabrera the Sun-Star Girls Soccer Player of the Year. 7.5 INFORMATIONAL ONLY: Presentation and Status Update of the Voluntary Participation in a Pilot Program Administered by the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence (CCEE) Education Code Section 52074 established the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence (CCEE), the purpose of which is to advise and assist school districts, county superintendents of schools, and charter schools in achieving goals set forth in their Local Control and Accountability Plans (LCAP) and the CCEE has invited Dos Palos Oro Loma JUSD to participate in the pilot program. An update and presentation was given by Dr. Steve Teitjen, Soccoro Shiels, and William Spalding. 7.6 INFORMATIONAL ONLY: Presentation and Update of the Solar Project by Cheryl Sicker, Sage Renewals Cheryl Sicker of Sage Renewals gave the board an update on the solar project.

9.3 Create and Hire a Network Specialist The technology department is requesting to create and hire a network specialist position. The technology department would like to create and hire a network specialist position. In years past, this position was titled Network Engineer and the position was eliminated due to budgetary constraints. Given the current technology needs, it’s justifiable to hire in-house and move away from the current managed services provider. 9.4 Hire a Temporary Specialized Student Assistant There’s an immediate need to meet our obligation of support for a current student. During an Individualized Educational Plan (I.E.P.) meeting it was determined that utilizing a Specialized Student Assistant to assist during the school day, field trips, and school activities was in order to provide a Free Appropriate Public Education, FAPE in the Least Restrictive Environment, LRE. The support is contingent upon the continued attendance and enrollment of the assigned special needs student. Recommendation: Recommend to approve hiring a temporary Specialized Student Assistant. COMMUNICATIONS AND/OR AUDIENCE COMMENTS The Board welcomes comments from the Public.

10.1 PUBLIC CONCERNS WILL BE HEARD BY THE BOARD AT THIS TIME; HOWEVER THEY WILL NOT BE DISCUSSED. (Policy #9323 limits individual's presentation to three minutes. The President may extend the time under certain circumstances. This is the opportunity for members of the public to focus on issues important to the District's purpose of education. Under Board policy this time may not be used to present derogatory information of a personal nature on any employee). MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC WHO WISH TO ADDRESS THE BOARD MUST SPEAK FROM THE PODIUM AND IDENTIFY THEMSELVES. Frank Lemos, Alternative Ed Principal announced that May 11 is the next Open House for GCEC. If you go by the Los Banos May Day Fair please stop by the art projects or come to our Open House. Packets were given to the board on the WASC visitation for GCEC for review. There are questions asked for board input. Please add any comments and return packets by June 1. Marty Thompson, DPOLTA President spoke on behalf of the solar presentation just given and he understood that soil test were done in an area not approved. Please ask that they not charge us for the annex soil tests.

ORAL REPORTS 11.1 INFORMATIONAL ONLY: Fiscal/Cash Status Update - Presented by May Yang, Business Manager A fiscal and cash status update was given to the Governing Board by May Yang, Business Manager 11.2 INFORMATIONAL ONLY: Superintendent Report An update on enrollment was given to the board. 11.3 INFORMATIONAL ONLY: Report from Board Members Maria Davis attended Open House at the high school and was impressed by the letters. Kudos to the teachers for their great work. It was great to see all the students here today getting all their awards for their achievement. Mrs. Henderson a big thank you! 13.7 ACTION ITEM: Enrichment Summer School - Students Who Experience Engineering and Technology (SWEET) Summer Academy Since the summer of 2015, DPOL has participated in a partnership with MCOE in providing a “SWEET” (Students Who Experience Engineering and Technology) Academy which is an engineering-focused summer program designed for students entering 5th- 8th grades. DPOL is requesting funding to offer the SWEET-STEM program the summer of 2017 for 12 days. Students will receive instruction in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. A concentrated curriculum of hands-on activities and personal interactions will support students in developing a deep understanding of engineering principles, real world engineering careers, and the value of middle and high school courses necessary for their college education. As part of the curriculum, students will have the opportunity to meet engineers and other presenters during their participation in the SWEET/STEM summer school. The 12 day schedule will also include a field trip day which will require transportation and lunch. Recommendation: Recommend approval of the SWEET Summer School Academy.
