THE MALAWI SCHOOL CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATIONConditions for the award of the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE)
Candidates are awarded a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) if, in one or not morethan four examination sittings, they satisfy one of the following conditions:
either
(i) Obtain a pass in six subjects including English Language, with at least one Credit/Distinction.
or
(ii) Obtain a pass in five subjects, including English Language, with at least threeCredits/Distinctions.
Candidates who do not qualify for a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) will beissued a Statement of Results.
Candidates can qualify for a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) by accumulation ifin later years they satisfy either of the two conditions stipulated above.
All candidates receive a Notification of Results Slip, which shows the grade achieved in everysubject. Grades obtained in all subjects are also shown on the Certificates awarded to all successfulcandidates.
Grades are indicated as follows:
Grades 1 and 2 denote a distinctionGrades 3 to 6 denote a creditGrades 7 and 8 denote a passGrade 9 denotes a failure
Grades 1 to 6 are the equivalent standard of GCE '0' level pass in the United Kingdom.Further information about the MSCE Examination can be found in the Regulations and Syllabusespublished by the Board.
