Miranda North Public School Newsletter
Term 3 Week 1 Welcome back to our families for term 3! We hope you had an enjoyable winter holiday with
your children. The teachers had a full day of learning and planning together last Monday and
we are excited to provide a term of learning for our fabulous students that is engaging and
inspiring. We are refreshed and enthusiastic about the term, after an appreciated mid-year
break.
Some events return to school…
As you are aware, some of our extra curricula activities (dance and band) re-commence this
term as does SRE (scripture) and SEE (ethics). These activities are organised in accordance with
Department of Health and Education guidelines to minimise risk during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Correspondence with details for students involved in the dance and band program has been
provided this week.
Keeping everyone safe…
Our school had carpet cleaning and additional cleaning undertaken during the holiday period
and classrooms are well stocked with sanitiser and cleaning wipes. Students will continue to be
encouraged to follow cough/sneeze and hand hygiene practices. Please assist by not sending
students to school who have respiratory symptoms. Keep students at home until recovered.

Continued COVID-19 safety precautions in place
Please note the following:
Pick up and drop off
Pick up and drop off remains the same as last term. Parents/carers are not permitted onsite
(except for the designated pick up areas in the afternoon). As adults are required to physically
distance, please minimise the time you are onsite in the afternoon and remain 1.5 metres apart.
Provision of food items for birthdays
Students are not permitted to bring items from home (such as cakes, lolly bags or party favours)
to provide to others (for birthdays). As is the usual practice, sharing of food is also not permitted.
Meeting with teachers
Parent teacher interviews will be held by phone during weeks 5-7 of the term. If you wish to
speak with your child’s teacher at other times, please phone or email the school office and the
teacher will make contact with you. Please do not go directly to the classroom.
School grounds
The school grounds remain out of bounds outside of school hours. Students, their families and
visitors are not permitted to enter the school grounds before/after school hours.
Thank you for your co-operation. These measures remain in place to minimise the risk of spread
of COVID-19.
As you are aware, our P and C have not been able to meet face to face at school during the
COVID-19 pandemic. Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday August 11 at 7pm. This meeting
will be held via zoom. P and C members are invited to nominate for positions on the P and C for
2020. The positions are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Sub-committees-
uniform, canteen and fundraising. A survey monkey will be used to receive nominations prior to
the AGM.
Education week will look different to other years as we are not able to celebrate with families
onsite. We have a celebration of a different kind planned. Students are making a film to show
their learning and there will be a display on the front fence of the school called a “graffiti wall”
where students can share their thoughts, ideas and feelings about “learning together”. Watch
our social media Facebook page for posts during the week from each class.
Education Week—Learning Together
P and C Annual General Meeting
Our new playground markings look just fabulous and were completed last week. Thank you to
our very generous P and C for the donation to fund the playground initiative. Our students love
the new designs and extra games to play!
Thank you to our P and C
Kindergarten Enrolment for 2021
Enrolments for Kindergarten in 2021 are warmly welcomed. If your child is starting school next
year, please see the office and collect an enrolment form.
Please note that 100 points of address identification is required for enrolment, in addition to your
child’s birth certificate or passport and immunisation documentation. The school only accepts
local enrolments. If your address is non-local, have a child who is currently enrolled at Miranda
North and wish to enrol a sibling, you are required to complete a non-local application, outlining
any extenuating circumstances for wishing to enrol at Miranda North. The application is then
considered by an enrolment panel and the outcome of the panel is provided to you. If you are
in this situation, ensure that you complete an enrolment application as soon as possible so that
the panel can consider the application.
Raincoats for rainy days…..
We’ve had some pretty steady rain over the last few weeks and our school grounds are looking
really green! We’d love every student to have a rain coat/ rain jacket or rain poncho for use on
rainy days.
Students need to move around the school on wet days and it is important that they remain dry
and comfortable. Please label your child’s rainwear.
Safety is important -please do not send umbrellas with your child as they are tricky to use in large
numbers and enclosed spaces.
Our senior students were recently invited to share their thoughts about
what makes an effective learner and the strategies they use to assist their
learning. Here's a focus group from 5/6M sharing their understand-
ings...you'd be amazed at the dispositions they have developed and
understand...curiosity, grit, focus, team work, "think why and how" and
influence...just to name a few. The future is in great hands !
Great things happening around our school recently…
Fitness fun for our students...a
healthy way to start the day! Our
stage 2 and 3 students engage
in fitness on our school oval to
start the day and to get their
minds and bodies feeling
energised and focused. Their
stamina and fitness is growing
steadily. Keep up the great fit-
ness focus, stage 2 and 3! (How
lucky are we to have such a
beautiful grassy oval to enjoy!
K-2 Sport
Kindergarten to Year 2 will be having sport on Thursdays during Term 3. All children in K—2 should
wear their sports uniform to school on Thursdays.
A note from the office regarding dance payments
Invoicing for dance is still being organised due to the change in circumstances that COVID-19
has presented. Accounts will be sent home in the near future and until that time we ask that you
do not make any dance payments.
100 days of Kindergarten!
100 days at school....and what a celebration it was! Balloons, fun glasses, crowns, jelly treats and
most importantly some wonderful reflections about just how much we've grown and learnt in the
last 100 days...Thank you for making the day so special for our youngest learners, Mrs O'Connell,
Miss O'Leary and Miss O'Donnell!
