N eWSletter Defence Services Command & Staff College Foreword Dear Readers, DSCSC course 2014-15 ended on 26 February 2015. Graduation Ceremony was the last major event of the course. The Honourable Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh graced the occasion as Chief Guest and distributed certificates among 162 Bangladeshi Armed Forces officers and 52 overseas officers from 22 foreign countries. We intended to keep our readers well informed about the latest news and developments of DSCSC through Mirpur Newsletter even during the break period. Readers can also log on to our website www.dscsc.mil.bd for better acquaintance. DSCSC course 2015-16 commenced on 12 April2015 with 203 officers from Bangladesh Armed Forces and 67 overseas military officers from 23 countries. Recently, efforts are taken to review/redesign the syllabus and training exercises to suit the present day needs. Undoubtedly, it will be a step ahead to train officers to meet the future challenges. Besides, the new building will be able to accommodate all the syndicate rooms, DSs' offices and conference rooms, a large tea space, auditorium, etc. The new Academic Building is almost ready for this course. "Independence Square", a cultural platform has been constructed as a unique addition to the scenic beauty of DSCSC Residential Area. DSCSC celebrated "Pohela Boishak" in ''Surjo Chaya ··, another newly built recreation place surrounded by green trees. Our best wishes and gratitude to all concerned who have rendered their precious time and kind assistance for the publication of this "Mirpur Newsletter". Finally our heartiest regards to all our valued readers.

GRADUATION CEREMONY The Graduation Ceremony of DSCSC Course 2014-15 was held on 24 February 2015 in Mirpur Hall. The Honourable Prime Minister graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and distributed the certificates of the graduating officers. The Ceremony was attended by Ministers, Services Chiefs, Members of Parliament, Diplomats and Senior Military and Civilian officials.

GRADUATION DINNER The Graduation Dinner of Staff course 2014-15 held in the officers' Mess of DSCSC On 19 February 2015. Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, The Hon'ble Speaker, Bangladesh Parliament, was present as the Chief Guest. All student officers, permanent Staff, invited guests from services headquarters, civilian sponsors and their spouses attended the dinner. Commandant, overseas and Bangladeshi course seniors and the Chief Guest spoke on the occasion.

VISIT OF FOREIGN DELEGATIONS The Foreign delegations of India, Kuwait Nepal, Egypt, KSA. Brunei, UK and Ethiopia visited DSCSC at various times. Delegation called on commandant, DSCSC and had d1scuss1on on various training activities of DSCSC. They also visited DSCSC Library, Clausewitz Book Store, Computer Lab, Syndicate Rooms and Mirpur Hall. The teams were briefed about the educational and training curricula of the college. They also shared experience and exchanged views with the college authority

BEST IRPAWARD WINNERS: DSCSC COURSE 2014-15 Best IRP (Individual Research Paper) Award ceremony was held on 19 February 2015 at Mirpur Hall. Commandant d1stnbuted the awards to six Bangladeshi and two overseas student officers.

OBSERVANCE OF NATIONAU INDEPENDENCE DAY OF FRIENDLY FOREIGN COUNTRIES As a friendly gesture the college makes a humble effort to commemorate the national days of participating overseas officers. DSCSC celebrated National I Independence Day of Palestine, Sri Lanka, India, Turkey, Zambia and Nigeria in students Tea Bar. All staff and student officers attended the session.

In every year attractive cultural programmes are organized for the refreshment of the staff course students. Accordingly colourful and spectacular shows Gala Night, River Cruise, Commandant's Garden Party, Ice Breaking and Water Sports etc were organized.

BASHER KELLA AND GHURNIJHAR As part of the course curriculum of Army Wing an outdoor exercise named "EX-BASHER KELLA" at Rangpur­Saidpur and "GHURNIJHAR" at Rajendrapur area were held. Chief instructor DSCSC accompanied the course. The student officers got immense exposure in planning of brigade size force defensive operations on ground.
