Mis-en-scene – PlanningBy Sabrina, Tom, Charlotte and Harry
Actors
●A young aged women (25+).
●Will be wearing casual clothes.
●Married
●A child’s arm
By using a young women, this will make our piece effective due to our synopsis being aimed at a young women who is married however she is in depression. She will be our main character within our opening sequence. We chose to use a women as our main character as it would make our opening sequence really effective as the audience would not understand the storyline yet would want to sill watch more, due to the eeriness.
Settings/Locations
● All of the opening sequence will be filmed at Harry's house on a quiet suburban road in Ruislip.
By filming it in a house it will gives us a variety of areas to film within, as well as it will make our opening
sequence more eerie due to being a ‘romantic thriller’. As it is in a quiet suburban road the audience will
like that as it will give them an idea on what could happen yet they would feel confused as they would not
know what would happen, especially at the start of the opening sequence. We have chosen the right
location for our sequence which matches perfectly. The audience have selected the right area for us, this
was when we had got our audience feedback. However this would be perfect to film as it matches with our
story line.
Costumes● Woman: black skinny jeans, bare foot, long sleeve baggy jumper/top and a wedding ring.
The audience will like the fact that we have chosen these types of clothes for our character as it
matches with our storyline, as well as due to the colours being dull, such as: black, navy it
contrasts with the genre ‘romantic thriller’. However as she is still wearing a ring it will make the
Audience seem slightly confused as to why she is wearing one and why she is depressed
therefore they will think she is married. However at the end their is a twist.... By using this
costume it will make our piece really effective as we have chosen the right colour scheme for
our genre, this will make our sequence stand out a lot more to the audience.
Props● Army picture frame
● Fake blood
● Teddy bear
● Letter
We have chosen to use fake blood and an army picture frame as it will make the audience
confused yet want to watch more of the sequence, due to the eeriness and tension it brings. As
well as the army picture will give the audience a clue from the start about what the opening
sequence could be about. This will make our piece effective as its aimed at a romantic thriller
genre therefore it will make the sequence stand out, as fake blood is usually used in most
thriller films. A teddy as well due to making the scene more creative yet scary but to create
tension towards the audience. A letter to make the audience clueless to why it is there and
what is written however it will make sense to them while the sequence is still playing until the
end.
Lighting Choice
● Daylight – midday
● Natural light e.g. Sun
By filming in the daylight it will make our sequence look really effective due to most romantic
thrillers are filmed in the daylight. As it will be filmed in the daylight, it will still make our
sequence look really eerie and make the audience feel odd, due to the tension it brings. The
audience will like this as they would understand the fact that most thrillers look more effective
when its filmed at daylight rather than at night.
Make-up
● Mascara
● Natural
● Smeared make-up
We have made the main character wear natural make-up and smudged mascara as she will be
crying and feeling depressed, however this will make our piece look effective as she will be
looking dramatic but in effective way and however this will make the audience feel sympathetic
for her, however they do not know what is coming up. Moreover the audience will like this
chosen look as it matches with the story line and it will not be over done however it will stand
out. In most romantic thriller films the women is always seemed to be dejected.
