“Miss Lily”
Description: Pilgrim 40 Hull #45 Commissioned in 1989
LOD: 40 feet
LOA: 42 feet including a short bowsprit to enable handling anchors;
LWL: 39’; waterline underway is 40 feet.
Miss Lily is the last Pilgrim 40 built. It is Hull #45 completed in 1989. All the boats were built in
Canada. Ted Gozzard the designer and builder intended these boats for canals, lakes and
rivers. It is a perfect great loop boat. This vessel incorporates many improvements from earlier
hull numbers.
Mechanical
Single screw powered by 6 Cylinder inline Westerbeke W-100 driving a 22” prop pitched at
17”. Engine has about 4100 hours since new. The hour meter reads about 100 hours low by
reason of the alternator failures during our Great Loop.
Current owner has put on about 1100 hours and has had an oil analysis performed with every
oil change. The engine burns zero oil between oil changes. All oil analysis results have been
returned “no oil change needed’. Of course the used oil has long gone to a recycle tank.
Transmission: New Borg warner Velvet drive transmission and oil cooler installed in 2018
about 200 hours ago.
Genset: Mastervolt 8kw with about 120 hours since new.
For a vessel of this size and displacement fuel economy is unmatched. At 7.3 mph (Normal
cruising speed) the engine is turning about 1600 rpm and burning about 1.5 gph (4.8 mpg).
This is possible by reason of the sailboat shaped underbody. This a is a full displacement
design. Maximum speed is 8.3 kts. (9.4 mph)
My wife and I had planned to do another loop, but have decided that once is enough. We
would like to see Miss Lily go to new owners who would appreciate and care for her as we
have.
The photos included here are just a small number of what I have . Please contact me at my cell
phone 281-928-5557 or Email: [email protected] if you are interested in this unique
vessel.
The vessel is currently slipped in League City, TX which is just South of Houston. My wife and I
would be happy to deliver the boat up to 1000 miles or so to Florida for costs.
Price: $165,000
Tankage:
Miss lily has three fuel tanks. Each hold 77 gallons of fuel. Range is over 800 miles at cruising
speed with reasonable reserves. The main engine can draw from or return to any of the three
fuel tanks. The Genset draws from and returns to the forward starboard tank. All tanks are
aluminum. All the tanks are the same size to simplify fabrication. All fuel tanks are removable
and replaceable with the same sized tanks without disturbing the main engine. This is the only
boat I have seen where this is possible. All tanks are installed resting on shims to prevent
condensation on tank bottoms.
The vessel has 2 water tanks each holding 77 gallons. A new 10 gallon water heater was
installed in 2017. The water tank keeps water hot for many hours after the engine is stopped.
Water tanks are easily removable if needed.
Miss Lily is equipped with a 10’6” Highfield Aluminum double bottom inflatable dinghy with
Hypalon air chambers. The dinghy was new in 2017 and been kept covered when not in use.
The dinghy is powered by a 15 hp Yamaha (2 stroke) Outboard. The dinghy planes easily with
500# of passengers.
Tools and spares:
The boat is equipped with a stowable work bench with a 4” vise. The boat also has an 8 ft
stowable bench that can be set up on the patio for larger jobs.
As part of the owners preparation for the great loop tool storage racks were installed for 6 tool
boxes of tools, electrical fittings, hose clamps, hoses, threaded rod, fuses, connectors, swaging
and crimping tools, metric and SAE taps and dies, spare parts, and filters for all engines, props
for bow thruster. The boat has spare anchors, and rode and extra main engine prop. (Michigan
Wheel)
