Unit 1 Outcome 2 Purpose On completion of this unit, students should be able to select and apply design elements and design principles to create Visual Communications that satisfy a stated purpose. For this task you will be applying your understanding of design elements and principles to create either a logo design or jam label Step by step: Step1- Choose a brief: You will be given a selection of design briefs to choose from, select one that best suits your interests. If you select the jam label they will be used by the food technology students when they create their jams and preserves. Step2- Brainstorm and research; Based on your chosen brief begin to brainstorm some ideas and a wide range of approaches. You will need to collect a range of images from magazines or the internet to help you see how other designers have created work for similar companies. Annotate these pages to evaluate the success of each of the concepts you selected. Step3- Idea generation: Based on your research begin to sketch some ideas for your logo or label. They should be quick freehand sketches exploring a range of possibilities and a range of design elements and principles. Don’t forget to annotate your designs as you go and comment on the elements or principles you have used and their effectiveness.

Purpose On completion of this unit, students should be able to select and apply design elements and design principles to create Visual Communications that satisfy a stated purpose.

For this task you will be applying your understanding of design elements and principles to create either a logo design or jam label

Step by step:

Step1- Choose a brief:You will be given a selection of design briefs to choose from, select one that best suits your interests. If you select the jam label they will be used by the food technology students when they create their jams and preserves.

Step2- Brainstorm and research;Based on your chosen brief begin to brainstorm some ideas and a wide range of approaches. Step4- Idea development:Choose the ideas that you believe have the most potential, now continue to develop these exploring a range of elements and principles and media, materials and processes.

Step5- Idea refinement:Choose the best idea and create it on illustrator. When you are working make sure you are taking screenshots (Mac Command + Shift+ 3) this will show the progress of your design. If you wish to have other materials within your design you can explore scanning in the media or try printing on different types of paper with different finishes to complete your design.

Design Brief Jam labelsClient: Forest Hill College- Food TechnologyThe food technology department of Forest Hill College have created a kitchen garden, the produce of the garden is being used by students in their creations. The program around it will include selling a range of produce under the name FOODS FROM THE FOREST. Need:The department have requested some labels to be created for their line of jams and preserves. These will be made by students studying unit 3 or 4 and sold by the college. It will be tomato chutney and a berry jam. They like contemporary designs rather than traditional. You need to create the full label including an area for nutritional information that will be filled in when the product is made.
