1. PSB-Complex® – The missing link in contemporary animal nutrition Parasitic and pathogenic infec-tions, injuries, wide-ranging stress and inadequate feed quality tax an animal’s natural de-fences and lead to underperfor-mance or death. This, ultimately, has negative economic conse-quences for farmers. The need for an optimized nutrition pro-gram that includes essential die-tary components becomes paramount in order to augment the metabolic or catabolic autogenous supply. To compensate for past defi-ciencies, today’s animal diets need to be increasingly comple-mented by essential nutrients vital to overall health and opti-mal performance.

Under normal conditions the supply of nucleotides is guaranteed through autogenous metabolic or catabolic proc-esses. The de novo synthesis of nucleotides, or the reuse of nu-cleic acids from dead cells (so-called “salvage pathway”) and the metabolically available dietary nucleotides allow to meet even temporary peaks in the demand for nucleotides without losses in performance.

Under detrimental conditions universal in modern agri-culture, aquaculture or animal husbandry, the supply of nucleotides cannot be guaranteed by internal re-sources. An effective reaction to health challenges or regenerative activities can only be guaranteed at the expense of performance as there are not enough nu-cleotides available for growth, reproduction or develop-ment.

Supplementing feed with CHEMOFORMA’s PSB-Complex® products replenishes the internal pool of nucleotides and thereby supports performance, even under adverse conditions. PSB-Complex® is a management tool to maintain general health, enhance performance and manage the harmful effects of stress.

Compared to normal feed, the unique formulation of the PSB-Complex® tailored for different species allows a facili-tated uptake of the active ingredients in the small intes-tine and a rapid availability for every cell in need of these building blocks of life. 2.2 Effects of ASCOGEN® on performance and immune response in piglets

The pos i t ive effects of PSB-Complex® were monitored in numerous field and laboratory trials, some of which are illus-trated here. For additional and detailed trial reports please refer to www.chemoforma.com.

A dose-dependent increase in the daily weight gain became obvious in this trial in piglets. The effects of PSB-Complex® were more distinct when including 1000 g of ASCOGEN® / tonne of feed compared to 500 g. Moreover the morphological differences directly reflect the inclusion rate of ASCOGEN®. While the inclusion of 500 g / tonne of feed only affects the height of duodenal villi, an additional significant effect on the Jejunum is visible after inclusion of 1000 g / tonne of feed. Hypo-thetically, the active ingredients of ASCOGEN® are already exhausted in the Duodenum at 500 g / tonne of feed while further significantly improved Jejunum morphology is evident at inclusion of 1000 g of AS-COGEN® / tonne of feed.

An increase in specific Immunoglobulins was apparent in both trial groups with ASCOGEN® after stimulation of the immune system with LPS (lipopolysaccharide). The increase was more rapid and pronounced in the 1000 g of ASCOGEN® / tonne of feed group compared to the 500 g group. In both trial groups, the IgG’s were substantially increased. Even more pronounced was the effect on the specific Foot-and-Mouth-Disease-neutralizing antibodies after vaccination against FMD. Three weeks after vaccination, the antibody titre in the 1000 g of ASCO-GEN® / tonne of feed group was still 4 times higher than the vaccinated control.

Four different groups were used in this trial. The total length of the trial was 50 days, and feeding of 2000 g of ASCO-GEN® / tonne of feed in group 2 started 7 days before weaning until weaning. The second trial group re-ceived ASCOGEN® for 25 days from weaning and the third trial group was fed with fortified feed for 32 days starting 7 days before weaning.

Performance data of piglets with se-vere enteritic problems. It was deter-mined that feeding should start as early as possible in piglets in order to actively support the development of organs and the immune system. The best results however are achieved when feeding ASCOGEN® before and after weaning.

We recommend using 2000 g of ASCOGEN® / tonne of feed before weaning and 1000 g of ASCOGEN® / tonne of feed until 40 days after weaning.

Dose-dependent increase in aver-age daily weight gain of piglets in a period of 68 days (89 days of age).

Dose-dependent final weight of piglets after 68 days. The inclusion of 2000 g of ASCOGEN® / tonne of feed achieved the highest weight in this experiment.

The feed conversion ratio showed a linear course in this experiment. The facilitated development of the intestinal tract with ASCOGEN® as well as the increase of the active intestinal surface area, lead to an improved FCR.
