Screening Results: The Mission®
Breath Alcohol Detector is for in-vitro diagnostic use only. The Mission® Breath Alcohol Detector is a test that measures alcohol in human breath. It is a disposable screening device for one-time use. The test is based on a chemical reaction that changes the color of the crystals in the detector, in the presence of breath that contains alcohol.
A more specific alternate chemical method must be used in order to obtain a confirmed analytical result.
Technical information
IT IS IMPORTANT TO READ THE PACKAGE INSERT BEFORE USING THEMISSION® BREATH ALCOHOL DETECTOR TEST DEVICE.

Please contact a Redwood Toxicology Laboratory sales representative to review confirmation test options.
Additional testing is necessary to confirm the presumptive positive results. Positive results should be “confirmed” by an alternate method such as GC-MS (Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry) or LC-MS/MS (Liquid Chromatography/ Tandem Mass Spectrometry).

Testing procedure
TESTING PROCEDURE – Without Blow Bag
9
• Hold the detector vertically with the mouthpiece pointing up so that the crystals fall to the end of the detector
• Subject should then BLOW/EXHALE very hard into tube, in one continuous breath, for 12 seconds.
• Shake the test side-to-side to distribute the crystals evenly in tester window.
• Lay the test on flat surface and wait 2 minutes.
SHAKE THE TESTER FROM SIDE-TO-SIDE.
Interpreting test results
READING DRUG TEST RESULTS
11
• Compare the color of the majority of crystals in the detector to the color blocks of the Color Chart on the detector label. Both color blocks indicate a POSITIVE test result. The first color block indicates the color of a POSITIVE test result at the Cut-off Level. The second color block indicates the color of a POSITIVE test result above the Cut-off Level.
• Read the test under incandescent, fluorescent, or indirect sunlight. Do not read under streetlights. Sodium vapor from streetlights can cause colors to appear differently. Use a flashlight to read the results. Shine the light on the side of the detector and not directly on it.

Interpreting test results
NEGATIVE TEST RESULT
12
• Majority of the crystals are yellow, light yellow or light green, but still more yellow than the first color block on the detector label. The relative BAC is below the cut-off level of the detector.

PRESUMPTIVE POSITIVE
Interpreting test results
PRESUMPTIVE POSITIVE* TEST RESULT
13
• Majority of the crystals are the same color as either color block on the detector label, a color in between them, or blue. The relative BAC is at or above the cut-off level of the detector.
*A more specific alternate chemical method must be used in order to obtain a confirmed analytical result. Please contact a Redwood Toxicology Laboratory sales representative to review confirmation test options.
