in the U.S. since 2012. Her interest indrawing began when she was only 3years old. Crystal's art has been greatlyinfluenced by one of her favorite artists,Hoshino Katsura, a Japanese Animeartist who draws the D. Grayman comic. This Gothicstyle of art is what Crystalloves to draw. She explains that some ofthe scenes are strange and mix infantasy. She credits her art teachers withhelping her draw well. "My first teacherwas my mom," Crystal says. But shebelieves that her art teachers at SGMHShave helped her as well. Mr. ChristopherLandinguin "helped me come up withideas for my 2D art projects." Mrs.Eugenia Heilweil "taught me veryinteresting techniques, including smallillusions, pencil and charcoal techniques,watercolor techniques, pastels as well ascomposition and still life" which havegreatly enhanced her artistic skills.According to Mrs. Heilweil, "The first timeI saw Chrystal Lin's art, I told myself,'What a natural talent. We have anamazing talent on our hands!' Using threemain colors: red, black and white,sometimes combined with yellow and blue, which enrich thealready luxurious details of the paintings, Chrystal's gothic stylefantasy paintings become alive. The two color checkmate patternrepetitions of her paintings are rich in detail, which create thespecific atmosphere and the drama of her gothic like stories. It'salmost a novel whose finale doesn't quite come, and leaves youanticipating more." Upon graduation, Crystal wants to attend art school. She hasapplied to the Otis College of Art and Design, California College ofthe Arts, and the California Institute of the Arts. This talentedsenior is well on her way to realizing her dream.
