Germany Malaysia

German troops received the 34ram bronze Armed Forces Operations Medal with the clasp INTERFET (Figure 11). The obverse features the German eagle and the reverse is blank. The medal is suspended from a narrow 28mm ribbon.

Ireland

Irish Defense Force personnel serving with United Nations Peacekeeping Missions receive the silver plated 33mm United Nations Peacekeeping Service Medal (Figure 12). The stylized obverse features a maiden at the shore releasing a dove, while three birds are in flight. The reverse reads DON TISOCAIN in Gaelic and FOR PEACE in English. The outer edge is inscribed, around the top portion in Gaelic, NA NASIUINANTAITE and around the lower portion in English, UNITED NATIONS.

Italy

Italy issued its Commemorative Peace Cross with the bar, TIMOR-EST (Figure 13) to its 250 paratroopers, including 33 Carabinieri parachutists, who participated in Operation Stabilize. The obverse is inscribed, PER LA PACE. The center of the reverse is a raised star.

Medal with clasp INTERFET (Germany)

Malaysia awarded its Overseas United Nations Service Medal, PINGAT NEGARA BAGIPERKHID- MATAN (Figure 14), to those participating in the United Nations operations.

Nepal

Nepal issues its Paradesa Sewa Padak Medal (Overseas Service) (Figure 15) for assignments abroad with United Nations Peacekeeping Operations or to render assistance to friendly nations. The obverse features the Nepal national flag inside of a five-pointed star. An inscription below reads in Nepalese script, LET THE WISE SACRIFICE HIS ALL FOR OTHERS. The reverse has the date of establishment, 11 POUSHA 2020, written in a straight line.

New Zealand

Approximately 1,450 New Zealand Defense Force personnel served with INTERFET, and approximately 900 will now be eligible to accept and wear the INTERFET Medal (Figure 2), which has a qualifying period of 30 days service.

New Zealand forces received their newly created East Timor Medal (Figure 16). The silvered obverse features a profile of Queen Elizabeth II and the inscription, ELIZABETH II QUEEN OF NEW ZEALAND. The reverse design incorporates a representation of the head of a kiwi overshadowing a map of East Timor and, below that, the inscription, EAST TIMOR. At the top right is a sprig of olive leaves, which represents peace.

Recipients of the East Timor Medal are also eligible for the New Zealand Operational Service Medal (Figure 17). The silver-plated obverse features the country’s coat-of- arms. The reverse features a kiwi, facing to the right over the inscription, NEW ZEALAND, and below three wavy lines the inscription, FOR OPERATIONAL SERVICE on two lines.
