Women’s Ministry Changes

For more than a decade, Alice Truan has acted as coordinator, administra-tor, teacher and considerably more, to the women at CK. Alice is passing

the coordinating to Charlotte Larson, Mary Spaun, and other women who have a passion for serving and will bring a fresh and new approach to this important work. Alice Truan will continue to serve in an advisory capacity as needed.

The Building Group will be filling bags with

food, water, and basic hygiene items to

hand out to the homeless. If you would like

to contribute to this project, there will be a

box in the foyer for donations. Suggest-

ed items are: Travel size toothpaste, deodorant,

hand lotion, band-aides, chap stick, pocket size

tissue, shampoo, socks, small bottles of water,

individually wrapped snack items. Once the bags

are filled, the Building Group will make them avail-

able to anyone who wants to pass one out the next

time they meet a person in need. For more info

contact Steve Zahl or John Borrelli.

Sidewalk Project

Bob Pusey is organizing a work party Saturday, January 20th at the Johnston’s home. Work will begin at 9am. We will be lay-ing a concrete sidewalk, please bring wheelbarrows, hammers and shovels. Questions: contact Bob Pusey.

SHEPHERDS’ CORNER

At the beginning of each month you will find an article devoted to the prayer requests of our missionaries or

an actual prayer written out that we can all pray together on their behalf during that week. Today I had the

pleasure of talking with Tracy Kee on the phone. I found her in Arkansas enjoying the last of the holiday

season with her family before returning home to the mission work in Tuba City, AZ where their family of five

(the smallest of which is 3) resides full time on the reservation with the natives. She conveys that life is de-

manding living with the natives, as they have the responsibility of meeting their needs 24 hours a day and

would like prayers for off-site housing to increase the effectiveness of their ministry. However, she offers

praise for “Tyler” a young man fresh out of college who has committed to 5 years of ministry on the reser-

vation to work specifically with the youths and summer groups. They would like Tyler to live on site and for

them to move to a close by neighborhood to alleviate some of the wearisome demands of living on site.

She also extends glory to God for the new eldership they have prayed for and desired that met with Eric for

the first time on Sunday. Now it’s time for us to wrestle in prayer for these worthy saints

(Colossians 4:12). Let’s Go!

There is a new Connections Group forming and we are looking for people interested in

bringing others into our church, helping them become part of our church family and grow in

Christ. The group will meet on Tuesdays from 6-7:30pm at the church building, starting on

January 23rd. As a group we will work together to find new ways to make sure that people

are brought in, warmly welcomed, encouraged to be a part of small groups and have a

place to call their church home. We are looking for old, young, new, seasoned and every-

one in between who are excited to make disciples (Math 28:16 -20). Please see David,

Jennifer, Jeb or Elizabeth to learn more.

“Be” – a two letter word that suggests its time for a change

As believers, we place trust in the inerrant word of God, more commonly known as the bible. For be-lievers, the stories, facts, lessons, and instructions for righteous living contained within are so much more than “spiritual” or “religious” writings that have been passed down through the years. The bible distinguishes itself by proclaiming to be the revealed written word of God, and if his word, then also his will (desired outcome) for mankind. So when we read passages that state “ God hates ___________” or “God is pleased by ____________” or some similar instructional language, the passage transforms from an interesting story to an instructional life lesson.

For instance:

But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:15-16

As the apostle Peter states, he who called you is holy (Jesus Christ), so we as his followers should en-deavor to follow his example in order that we might be more like Jesus.

By reflecting on scripture in this manner, we not only learn about God’s will, but also strive to keep it

alive by living God’s will, thereby setting an example to others around us and the future believers yet to

come.
