The mission of KIPP Excelencia Community Prep is to inspire and empower all children so that they are successful through college and impact their communities.
Top Bay Area Public Schools for Underserved Students, Innovate Public Schools Report 2016
KIPP Excelencia believes that literacy is the foundation for learning and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) is the ticket to success. We know that we are preparing children for careers that do not exist yet, so our schedule ensures that all scholars are innovative and curious. Scholars get hands-on science instruction every day, regularly go through the design-thinking process during one of their classes called Innovation Lab, and also take music and dance classes. In addition to our rigorous academic program, we offer after-school programming where scholars get exposure to sports, gardening, cooking, and other activities.

In summer 2015, KIPP Bay Area Schools opened its first TK-8 school in Redwood City, KIPP Excelencia Community Prep. The school currently serves transitional kindergarten through sixth grades, and will add a grade each year as scholars are promoted until the school is full-scale, serving students in transitional kindergarten through eighth grade. KIPP Excelencia proudly serves a community that fought for its existence. Parents drove the founding of the school and helped create a school where relationships are the cornerstone of what they do. Scholars at KIPP Excelencia develop love, gratitude, grit, zest, and curiosity every day through a rigorous and deeply conceptual learning experience that involves working with others. Together, scholars grow academically and socially as they climb the mountain to and through college. KIPP Excelencia is one of 12 KIPP schools in the Bay Area and 209 KIPP schools nationally educating 87,000 students on their path to and through college.
