Sunday, October 13, 2019 – Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Cycle C Readings: 2 Kings 5:14-17, Psalm 98: “The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power.”, 2 Timothy, 2: 8-13, Luke 17: 11-19

The Extraordinary Missionary Month of October Every year the Church dedicates the month of October to a deeper reflection about the Missionary Life of the Church. This year of 2019, Pope Francis wants to give a strong meaning to this month in commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Apostolic Letter “Maximum Illud” / “That Momentous”, which was written by Benedict XV in 1919. This letter, written in the last century was a calling to urge Christians in the special way those consecrated to a missionary vocation to open the hearts to God’s calling as they are immersed in the Mission field. As we reflect on the Mission of the Church, we begin to understand the paradigm of the Mission in different levels. Such as be-ginning to understand the reality of today’s Church, Society and its presence in the world. As I read and reflect on the theme of the Extraordinary Missionary Month of October, which is “Baptized and Sent”. Upon hearing the first words of the document of the Second Vatican Council titled “Gaudium et Spes” (The Joys and Hopes) that ex-presses the urgency of the evangelization as it states: “The joys and the hopes, the griefs and the anxieties of the men of this age, especially those who are poor or in any way afflicted, these are the joys and hopes, the griefs and anxieties of the followers of Christ. (GS 1) I am also inspired by the words expressed in the document of the Second Vatican Council tare he words of Jesus to the disciples in the gospel of Mark: “… the Kingdom of God is at hand” (Mk. 1:15) as missionary-disciples, all of us baptized are called to fol-low the footsteps of Jesus. Are we ready for this task? The Synod of Amazon In the past days the catholic media were broadcasting the meeting of Pope Francis, with Bishops, Cardinals, experts in science, economy, and sociology, priests, religious sisters and religious brothers, lay people and indigenous to the “Synod of Amazon”. And as the synod is happening in Rome different voices are raised in favor or against this specific synod. Therefore, it is im-portant to clarify some of the points. What is a Synod? What is the purpose of the Synod? The word Synod comes from the Greek (σύνοδος) that means meet (walk) together, as dividing the word, it will help us to under-stand better sun – together / hodos – way / sunodos – meeting, it means that synod is a place of dialogue and discernment. Certainly, in every meeting, discussions will be raised, and this is a part of meeting together that helps the participants to be open to a better decision, which gives a sign of maturity among the participants. In answering the question, the purpose of a Synod is to reflect upon pastoral situations, for example: The Synod of Family, the Synod of the New Evangelization, the Synod of Youth, etc., and also the Synod can dialogue about the Church in geographic situ-ations, for instance: The Synod of Africa, The Synod of Europe, the Synod of America, etc. Nevertheless, this Synod and every synod of the Church is summoned by the Pope and presided by him, I mean, the Synod as a whole is “CUM PETRO et SUB PETRO / “with Peter and under Peter” Although with all the comments and arguments, the Synod of the Amazon is a sign that the Church is a place of the dialogue and mature decisions, also including the urgency to think in the paradigm of a better evangelization among the people who lived in the Amazon Area. Such as Pope Francis addressed the Synodal Father who is attending the Synod of Amazon, this meeting is guided by the Holy Spirit and every discussion to be addressed will be inspired by the Spirit. El extraordinario mes misionero de octubre Cada año, la Iglesia dedica el mes de octubre a una reflexión más profunda sobre la Vida Misionera de la Iglesia. Este año 2019, el Papa Francisco quiere dar un fuerte significado a este mes en conmemoración del 100 aniversario de la Carta Apostólica "Máxima ilusión" / "ese momento", que fue escrita por Benedicto XV en 1919. Esta carta, escrita en el siglo pasado fue un llamado a instar a los cristianos de una manera especial a aquellos consagrados a ser misioneros de vocación, y a abrir su cora-zón al llamado de Dios mientras están inmersos en el campo de la Misión. A medida que reflexionamos sobre la Misión de la Iglesia, comenzamos a comprender el paradigma de la Misión en diferentes niveles. Como comenzar a comprender la realidad de la Iglesia, la Sociedad y su presencia en el mundo de hoy.

Mientras leo y reflexiono sobre el tema del Mes Misionero Extraordinario de octubre, que es "Bautizado y Enviado". Al escuchar las primeras palabras del documento del Concilio Vaticano II titulado "Gaudium et Spes" (Las alegrías y esperanzas) que expre-sa la urgencia de la evangelización, ya que dice: "Las alegrías y las esperanzas, las penas y las ansiedades de los Hombres de esta edad, especialmente aquellos que son pobres o de alguna manera afectados, estas son las alegrías y las esperanzas, las penas y las ansiedades de los seguidores de Cristo. (GS 1) También me inspiran las palabras expresadas en el documento del Concilio Vaticano II, con las palabras de Jesús a los discípu-los en el evangelio de Marcos: "... el Reino de Dios está cerca" (Marcos 1:15) como discípulos misioneros, todos los bautizados estamos llamados a seguir los pasos de Jesús. ¿Estamos listos para esta tarea?

El sínodo de amazonas En los últimos días, los medios de comunicación católicos transmitían la reunión del Papa Francisco, con obispos, cardenales, expertos en ciencia, economía y sociología, sacerdotes, hermanas religiosas y hermanos religiosos, laicos e indígenas del "Sínodo del Amazonas". Y a medida que el sínodo está sucediendo en Roma, se alzan diferentes voces a favor o en contra de este sínodo específico. Por lo tanto, es importante aclarar algunos de los puntos. ¿Qué es un sínodo? ¿Cuál es el propósito del Sínodo? La palabra Sínodo proviene del griego (σύνοδος) que significa reunirse (caminar) juntos, ya que dividir la palabra, nos ayudará a entender mejor sol - juntos / hodos - camino / sunodos - reunión, significa que el sínodo es un lugar de reunión. diálogo y dis-cernimiento. Al responder la pregunta, el propósito de un Sínodo es reflexionar sobre situaciones pastorales, por ejemplo: El Sínodo de la Fa-milia, el Sínodo de la Nueva Evangelización, el Sínodo de la Juventud, etc., y también el Sínodo puede dialogar sobre la Iglesia en situaciones geográficas, por ejemplo: El Sínodo de África, El Sínodo de Europa, el Sínodo de América, etc. Sin embargo, este Sínodo y cada sínodo de la Iglesia es convocado por el Papa y presidido por él, es decir, el Sínodo en su con-junto es "CUM PETRO et SUB PETRO /" con Pedro y bajo Pedro ". Aunque con todos los comentarios y argumentos, el Sínodo del Amazonas es una señal de que la Iglesia es un lugar de diálogo y decisiones maduras, que también incluye la urgencia de pensar en el paradigma de una mejor evangelización entre las personas que vivieron en la Zona de Amazonas. Children from young to 17 ½ years of age are waiting in foster care. They are part of the 800 + children waiting on any given day for adop-tion. Pray about making a difference or sharing with others about this need for individuals and/or married couples to come to action for the children in local communities who are waiting and hoping to be placed with a family that will become their own.

There is little to no cost involved to adopt children from the state’s fos-ter care system, and getting started is easy (there are funds available to help support cost). Also, college, medical and financial assistance are available to help meet the needs of children adopted from foster care.

O God, source of all life and goodness, you fashion human lives in your image and

likeness, and through your love, give each human life

dignity, sacredness, and priceless worth; awaken in every heart

new reverence for the least of your children, and renew among your people

a readiness to nurture and sustain your precious gift of human life at all stages,

and in all conditions. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
