With the advent of the revised OASIS-C, ongoing and specialized home health training to accurately assign diagnosis codes remains critical to reflect the complexity of home care patients and ensure accurate reimbursement. By offering conferences with two different focuses, it is hoped the needs of your staff will be met.

About Your Speaker Patricia W. Tulloch RN, BSN, MSN, HCS-D

Trish Tulloch is a seasoned clinician with more than 30 years in health care practice. A Registered Nurse with code credentials from the Board of Medical Specialty Coding, she is a nationally recognized speaker who provides clinical and administrative expertise to clinicians and agencies across the country. She is a senior consultant with RBC Limited, a national consulting firm, who also collaborates with attorneys in Corporate Compliance, fact finding and regulatory standards.

The Board of Medical Specialty Coding (BMSC) has approved each of these conferences for 6.5 contact hours toward maintenance of the HCS-D credential. You are eligible for the contact hours from just one of the conferences, not both.

The intent of the conference on September 29th is to help prepare you to take the HCS-D certification exam or re-certification exam. You may register in advance to take the exam which is offered on site on Thursday, September 30th or make other testing arrangements with the BMSC.

You must register separately with the BMSC and pay an additional fee to take the certification or re-certification exam. The fee for the certification exam is $229 for MAHC Members or $249.00 for non-MAHC members. The fee to take the re-certification exam is $129.00. These fees are to be paid to BMSC.

This coding conference will provide the fundamentals necessary to achieve national credential status. Ensure your agency coders are recognized for their expertise and experience. Upon completion of this fast paced, interactive coding program, participants will be eligible to take the Homecare Coding Specialist Diagnosis (HCS-D) national certification exam. Registration with BMSC is required for those taking the test - see information within this brochure.

This program is for intermediate and advanced home health staff who have at least two years of home health coding experience. It will include a comprehensive overview of ICD-9-CM coding with specific application to home health. Coding mandates, exceptions and OASIS-C best practices will be reviewed. Coding inconsistencies and common diagnosis pitfalls as well as tips to reinforce OASIS-C documentation to substantiate accurate ICD-9-CM coding will be addressed, including:

1. ICD-9-CM Code Conventions and guidelines, including the ten steps to correct coding and a summary of the 2011 code changes;

2. Critical diagnosis-related billing and coding guidelines including the correct assignment of primary, secondary and case mix items;

3. Diagnostic coding statements and code sequencing for difficult home care cases, including complex wounds, neoplasms, manifestation and combination codes;

4. Multiple realistic complex case scenarios that address common critical disease issues.

Who Should Attend This Training?

Clinicians as well as non-clinicians involved in the completion of the OASIS assessment, as well as the review and code assignment for home health providers. Participants MUST BRING an up-to-date ICD-9-CM code manual as well as a blank Start of Care OASIS document from your agency to the session.

The exam is based on the 2010 ICD-9-CM Manual. It is recommended that the participant planning to take the code certification test has at least one year of current home health experience, is familiar with the revised OASIS-C document, and two years of coding in the home health setting.

About Your Speaker Patricia W. Tulloch RN, BSN, MSN, HCS-D

Trish Tulloch is a seasoned clinician with more than 30 years in health care practice. A Registered Nurse with code credentials from the Board of Medical Specialty Coding, she is a nationally recognized speaker who provides clinical and administrative expertise to clinicians and agencies across the country. She is a senior consultant with RBC Limited, a national consulting firm, who also collaborates with attorneys in Corporate Compliance, fact finding and regulatory standards.

The Board of Medical Specialty Coding (BMSC) has approved each of these conferences for 6.5 contact hours toward maintenance of the HCS-D credential. You are eligible for the contact hours from just one of the conferences, not both.

The intent of the conference on September 29th is to help prepare you to take the HCS-D certification exam or re-certification exam. You may register in advance to take the exam which is offered on site on Thursday, September 30th or make other testing arrangements with the BMSC.

You must register separately with the BMSC and pay an additional fee to take the certification or re-certification exam. The fee for the certification exam is $229 for MAHC Members or $249.00 for non-MAHC members. The fee to take the re-certification exam is $129.00. These fees are to be paid to BMSC.

To register to take the exam:
