The student experience, provision of industry opportunities and teaching is the central focus of our delivery methodology. We have smaller and more intimate classes, which ensures our students establish stronger relationships with each other in addition to the academic team.

Industry partners play an integral role in the design and structure of our courses. We routinely engage with industry to ensure the curriculum focus and skills being developed meets the needs of industry. In addition, there are a significant number of guest speakers who provide industry insight along with regular field trips. Further, our academic team consists of staff with both extensive industry experience and current industry professionals.

Our students work with real sports organisations in a consultancy capacity to develop a range of important strategy documents to assist the partners. Importantly, this process assists in expediting the development of important skills, both technical and professional, to ensure our students are well prepared for their internships, and further afield, to transition seamlessly into the workforce upon graduating.

Our internship program has been a huge success. Students complete an extensive internship (228 hours, which is significantly longer than the average internship) with one of our leading industry internship partners such as Fox Footy, Herald Sun, Hawthorn Football Club, Melbourne Stars, Melbourne United, AFL Victoria, Cricket Victoria and Basketball Victoria.

ALEXIE BEOVICHMarketing & Communications Assistant, Hockey Australia (2016 Most Outstanding Holmesglen Higher Education Student, & 2016 graduate)

The Sports Media degree allowed me to work with leading sports organisations including Basketball Victoria, Hawthorn Football Club and Cricket Victoria to produce effective, real-world outcomes. These opportunities mean Holmesglen Sports Degrees students entering the job market have an advantage on the competition.

I have been able to secure a full-time role as the Marketing and Communications Assistant at Hockey Australia. The role sees me working

with a small team producing marketing plans for major events like the Oceania Cup or the Commonwealth Games as well as running social media accounts for major sporting organisations. I already feel comfortable in the role and I attribute a lot of that to my experiences at Holmesglen. Without the learning, opportunities and experiences at Holmesglen, I wouldn’t have learned the skills to transition into full-time employment with a leading national sports organisation.

JAMES MOTTERSHEADEditorial Assistant, Herald Sun (2017 3rd year student)

The Bachelor of Sports Media is a perfect combination of hands-on industry experience and theory work, which leads to real-world outcomes while acquiring new skills. Having an opportunity to complete a 230-hour internship at Cricket Victoria, a 120-hour internship at the VAFA and spend three weeks at the Herald Sun has only added to the experience. While at the Herald Sun I had the great privilege of having 13 articles published. My appointment at the Herald Sun is a testament to the course. This course changed my life.

JAKE MARNIE(2017 2nd year student)

Studying at Holmesglen has given me so many more opportunities than my previous studies at a different university. I am just about to complete my second year and already I have been able to work with a Premier Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) club assisting with their social media, marketing and sponsorship. Holmesglen was also able to secure me a volunteer role at the VAFA working alongside their General Manager Commercial where I have gained some invaluable sponsorship and marketing experience.
