MITCHELLS ISLAND PUBLIC SCHOOL
Newsletter—Term 1, Week 6 2019
Canteen:
Canteen is on this week. Thank you Amy for running
the canteen tomorrow.
Regional Swimming:
Congratulations to Denver, Jaydon, Gracie & Toby who
represented our school at the Regional Swimming
Carnival in Newcastle yesterday. They all put in a
fantastic effort in the relay, shaving 10sec from their
zone time and qualifying for the State Swimming
Carnival at Homebush. Well done team!
Children’s University:
Attached to the newsletter is another Children’s Univer-
sity form. This is free for the first twelve months and
we encourage all parents to complete the form so that
we can begin the children’s journey to education out-
side of the classroom. Forms need to be returned by
Friday.
Vintage Motor Cycle Club Visit:
On Friday, we hosted 90 riders from the Vintage Motor-
cycle Club and from all accounts, they thoroughly en-
joyed visiting our school.
Thank you to everyone who supported us from cooking
cakes, cooking the BBQ, selling raffle tickets, serving
food and cleaning up after.
Thank you to DW Quality Meats and the Purdons for
donating the raffle prizes.
P&C AGM:
Thank you to everyone that attended the P&C Annual
General Meeting on Monday. Our 2019 P&C Com-
mittee consists of:
President: Margaret Hilder
Vice Presidents: Jess Booth & Kayleen Seach
Treasurer: Sarah Ray
Secretary: vacant
Canteen Manager: Milo Jones.
At this stage, the Secretary role is vacant, if you would
like to consider this position, please speak to Mrs
Wilson or Margaret Hilder.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory:
Thank you for the great response to this excursion. All
tickets have now been sold. It will be a great experi-
ence but a very LONG day. We will leave school at
6:30am, stopping for morning tea at Wyong. Lunch will
be at The Capitol Theatre. The performance is at 1pm.
We will stop for dinner at Wyong. The school will cover
the cost of dinner for the students. I anticipate arriving
back at school by about 7:30pm.
The children will need to bring their recess and lunch.
It is preferable that the children bring throw away pack-
aging. They will be given two plastic bags that will be
clearly labelled, allowing us to separate recess and
lunch as they will be in 2 different locations.
Children can bring a backpack but it will be left on the
bus to avoid anything being left behind. I encourage
everyone to bring a pillow for sleeping on the bus trip.

Ruby: This week we have been drawing Parliament House.
We drew it off a video and it was hard at first but then it got
easier as we went on.
Bethany: First we drew a semi-circle at the bottom of the
page then we drew two lines on top of the semi-circle. After
that we drew a big box on the right hand side.
Ruby: Then we drew a tiny bit bigger box in the middle and
we drew the same sized box on the left hand side and we
put windows and a flag. We shaded the windows in pale
lead pencil.
Bethany: We used green for the grass. Blue, red and white
for the flag. That’s how we drew Parliament House.
Vintage Bikes
Hamish: Last Friday 95 vintage bikes came to our school. The
kids got to walk around and check out the bikes. There were
different bikes ranging in ages from 20 years to 100. The old-
est one was used in the First World War. There was a cake
stall up in the library run by Mrs Stephen.
Dinal: There was a sausage sizzle where you could buy a sau-
sage sandwich or a drink. There were fantas, coke, diet coke,
Schweppes lemonade, solo and water. There was a raffle.
The prizes were a big meat tray with many different types of
meat donated by DW Quality Meats and there also was a big
favourites chocolate box.
Hamish: The school captains picked one bike each that was
their favourite. The school leaders got a Taree Vintage
Motorcycle Club cap and to say thank you for the sausage
sizzle they gave all the kids a drink and two packets of chips.
Bunnings BBQ:
The P&C are running a Bunnings BBQ on the 23rd
March 2019. A roster sheet is attached. Please
help where you can. This is a case of “many
hands make light work” and we need volunteers.
All of the fundraising work of our P&C goes back
into helping the students with many of our excur-
sions being heavily subsidised.

Zone Swimming Report
Yesterday we went to the Regional Swimming Carnival.
It was very busy because there was a lot of schools
there. It was in Newcastle. We had to wait until forty-
four races were done, then it was our turn to race in
the PP5 relay. In our team was Gracie, Toby, Denver
and Jaydon. We had to touch a yellow rectangle at the
end of the pool when we swam to signal the next per-
son in our team to swim. We won our relay and made it
to state. We got a ribbon and a free drink bottle and
we had notes for state. They had a diving pool that
was 4.9 metres deep, that you could warm up in.
By Denver, Jaydon, Toby & Gracie.
The first race I went in was the junior 200 metre individ-
ual medley but I came fifth so I did not qualify as only
first, second and third place qualified. My time in that
race was 3 minutes and 22 seconds. My next race was
50m backstroke and I came fifth in that race as well
with a time of 42 seconds. I then went in the 50m
breaststroke and came 8th with a time of 51 seconds.
My last race was 50m freestyle and I came fifth with a
time of 36 seconds.
