Important Information

GlassDimensionsNominal dimensions for all Original Style glass mosaics are shownthroughout the brochure. Owing to their hand-finished character,actual dimensions for individual tiles will vary from these figures.

ShadingAs each tile is individually coloured, there may be distinctive yet subtlevariations in shade. This is an inherent feature of Original Style’s glassmosaics. You may wish, therefore, to spend some time to achieve themost pleasing distribution of shades before fixing.

InstallationAs with any other glass product, ensure Glassworks mosaics arehandled with care, in particular where tiles are being cut or have beenbroken. Please ensure that the surfaces do not come into contact witheach other or sharp/abrasive objects. Appropriate safety precautionsshould be taken if cutting glass, including protective equipment forhands and eyes.

Adhesive must be applied evenly due to the transparent nature ofsome of the tiles. Failure to do this can lead to the adhesive beingvisable through the tiles in certain lights.

For glass mosaics, before commencing installation it is important toread the Installation Guidelines – Fixing and Cleaning Instructions(applicable in the United Kingdom only).

In the USA please follow the recommendations of a reputableadhesive manufacturer and always comply with American NationalStandards Institution (ANSI) specifications as set out in the Handbookfor Ceramic Tile Installation published by the Tile Council of America.

GroutingParticular care should be taken to use the correct grout. Read carefullyand follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Original Style does not recommend using coloured grouts unless theadhesive supplier has stated that the coloured grout is suitable for usewith glass mosaics. It is important to use a fine grade grout to avoidscratching the surface of glass mosaics.

CleaningWash down glass mosaics surfaces with clean water or a normal spirit,glass or window cleaner. Please ensure a soft cloth is used to avoidscratching.

Please read through the following information carefully. It will help you select the correct tiles for yourapplication and will guide you through installing and maintaining your choice.

ScratchingAs with all glass products, glass mosaics can be scratched. Werecommend that care is taken in installation and that glass mosaicsare not put in high-risk areas for scratching.

Use of glass mosaics on counter top surfacesOriginal Style does not recommend glass mosaics are used on countertops due to the possibility of scratching (see above).

Use of glass mosaics near heatOriginal Style recommends mosaics are installed a minimum of 3cmfrom any direct heat source.

Metal

DUE TO THEIR METALLIC NATURE IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT AQUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN CARRIES OUT ALL ELECTRICALWORK AROUND THE METAL MOSAICS.

Make sure that the grain of stainless steel is going in the rightdirection, if not, the sheet will appear to be different colours.

Power ShowersIf using in a power shower it is important to use an adhesive andgrout specifically for power showers.

StoneChoose the right Stone MosaicsMost of our Stone Mosaics are porous to some extent. If they are laidoutside, it is possible water could be absorbed and the tile thenbecome susceptible to frost damage.

All stone is a natural product and subject to colour variation,blemishes, size variation and sometimes staining. We stronglyrecommend you read through the Earthworks - Fixing and SealingGuide to ascertain if the stone is appropriate for your proposed use. Ifyou are uncertain please ask your Original Style retailer for furtherinformation. Original Style cannot accept any responsibility for issuesraised in this Important Product Information once the product hasbeen laid or installed.

Colour VariationThese stone mosaics are made from natural products. It follows,therefore, that there may be some variation in colour from one tile toanother. It also means that a single sample tile should not be taken asa completely accurate indication of colour.

The distinctive yet subtle variations in hue within each stone mosaicand between individual pieces enhance the character of theinstallation. Accordingly, we recommend that your fitter spends sometime to achieve the most pleasing distribution of shades.

BlemishesSimilarly, due to the natural origins of these products, some of ourstone mosaics may have minor chips or blemishes. Such relativelyinsignificant imperfections should be considered normal and not theresult of poor or faulty workmanship.

Natural stone is heavy and thus handling/delivery requires importantconsideration. We would therefore recommend that great care andattention is given when attempting to handle these products.

FixingWe strongly recommend that your fitter obtains a free leafletEarthworks - Fixing and Sealing Guide (available from the OriginalStyle website www.originalstyle.com) and reads it thoroughly prior tocommencing any work. This leaflet explains fully the steps necessary toplan, fix and seal your stone mosaics and how to maintain them infirst class condition in years ahead.

In particular, it is important that the fitter understands therequirements for surface preparation, the pattern or blended effect youwant and protecting newly laid tiles from ongoing work.

It is imperative that the substrate is reasonably level and that thereshould be no flexibility. If fixing on to wooden floors; they should bemade as stable as possible with sheets of marine grade plywood. Ifusing underfloor heating please refer to the manufacturer wheninstalling. Tiles/stone can be damaged if subjected to rapid heatchanges causing thermal expansion/contraction. The products in thisbrochure should not be laid onto flat, asphalt-covered roofs in areassubject to frost.

PhotographyOwing to variations in studio lighting and printing inks, the tilecolours shown in this catalogue may differ slightly from those ofthe actual tiles. Before making your choice it is always advisableto ask your Original Style retailer to show you samples.

Limits of LiabilityOriginal Style accepts no liability for the faulty installation of itstiles. In the case of any claim relating to the tiles themselves,Original Style’s liability, to the extent permitted by law, is limitedto either the replacement of the product or a refund of the costof the product, and does not extend to cover any consequentialloss. Tiles must be inspected prior to installation and claimscannot be considered after the tiles have been installed.
