The Rose City Hot Club has been performing swingin’ Gypsy Jazz in the Northwest since 2005. Always dance-able, nev-er too loud and played on acoustic instruments, Gypsy Jazz offers melodic interpretations of American swing tunes from the 1930’s and 40’s as well as European favorites. “Hot Club” style music refers to “Le Jazz Hot” popularized in the Paris night clubs by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli’s band, Quintette du Hot Club de France, begin-ning in 1934. The Rose City Hot Club has performed at Timberline Lodge, the Columbia Gorge Hotel and at many wedding celebrations and other private and public events. We’re excited to be performing again in Sandy, Oregon.

Miss Monica’s Favorite Story Time Books For Toddlers• My Car by Byron Barton – I can recommend

ANY book by Byron Barton. I love this book in particular because it has a funny twist at the end and it has a couple of big words that parents can point out to the child.

• Meeow And The Little Chairs by Sebastien Braun• Hurry! Hurry! by Eve Bunting• Cat’s Colors By Jane Cabrera. I love everything

written and illustrated by Cabrera. Her fun illus-trations and bright colors draw the little ones in.

• From Head To Toe by Eric Carle• Maisy Dresses Up. By Lucy Cousins. This is a

series and toddlers love them all!• Orange, Pear, Apple, Bear. By Emily Gravett• Kevin Henkes. I am kind of obsessed with Kevin

Henkes’ illustrations in a few of his picture books. Really wonderful, simple stories, too. These are three of my all-time favorite story time books:

A Good Day, Old Bear, Kitten’s First Full Moon• Spot Goes To The Park. by Eric Hill. (those lift-

the-flap books are a big hit. Make sure you are

careful or the flaps get destroyed. • Clip-Clop by Nicola Smee• Chicky Chicky Chook Chook by Cathy MacLen-

nan. This one is really fun to read – with lots of

fun rhymes.

Check-In Circle Sandy Library Community room FIRST SUNDAY of each month @ 3:30pm

The inaugural Check-In Circle was so popular in December, we are keeping it! The Circle (or council) is an ancient form that has been gathering us into respectful conversation for thousands of years in many cultures around the world. This provides a shift from informal socializing or opinionated dis-cussion into a receptive attitude of thoughtful speaking.
