The Machine's ArrivalOnce the machine has arrived and the crating has beenremoved, give your machine a complete wiping anddusting to remove any pieces of wood or plastic that stillmight remain after uncrating. Also, ensure that theOperating Foot Cable is secure around the entiremachine. Once the machine is clean and positioned towhere it will be operated from, release the machine downfrom its Caster Wheels to prevent it from moving duringthe loading of rolls and operation.

Loading the Roll of CarpetWhen you place the roll on the Left Side of the machine, ensure that the feed is coming from the bottom towardsthe Counter with the "Pile" facing up. This provides anaccurate measurement from the carpet backing -NEVER measure with the "Pile" facing down as you willget an inaccurate measurement. As well, for best results, the roll of carpet should be rolled up fairly tight. Totighten a loose roll of carpet, press the Left Side RollerButton in REVERSE, depress the Foot Cable, and allowthe roll to rotate for a few turns until it tightens itself up.

Preparing to MeasureAdvance the carpet to the Right Side by pressing both the RollerButtons in the FORWARD direction and depress the Foot Cable. Atthe same time, Iift the Counter Weight and guide the carpet through tothe Cutting Track. Stop the carpet at the edge of the Cutting Trackand gently lower the Counter Weight down onto the carpet. By usingthe Shuttle Cradle Shifting Handle, you can shift the cradle so as tobetter align the carpet with the Cutting Track. But as a rule and forbest results, the Shuttle Cradle should remain in the center lockposition until you become more familiar with the machine.NOTE: THIS STEP DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY SQUARE THECARPET AND CAREFUL ATTENTION TVIUST STILL BE CIVEN TOROLLING IT UP STRAICHT.

With the edge of the carpet flush along the edge of the Cutting Track, you are nowready for the counting and roll up process to begin. To program your counter for a

desired length, please adhere to the following steps:

1) Press the "+" or "-" buttons until you arrive at the "P1" screen and then press

the "RST CLR" button to clear the screen.

2) The top row will indicate the length of flooring that is being measured and rolledup. The bottom row is where you can program the desired length to bemeasured and rolled up.

NOTE: Due to the momentum of the flooring as it is being rolled up, a smallamount of flooring (only 1" to 2") is inadvertently measured since the machinedoes not stop instantly once the programmed length is reached. Therefore, youmay want to program the counter less than the desired length to compensate forthis amount or just allow this amount for extra. Refer to the Conversion Table onthe Control Panel for conversions.

(lf this step is too confusing when trying to reach the desired length, you can justmanually adjust the length by tapping the Fine Tuning Button in the appropriatedirection.)

3) Press the "SEL" button and you will notice that the first "0" on the bottom row

will begin to flash.

4) Press the "+" or "-" buttons until you reach the desired value at that digitposition. Once you have attained the desired value at that specific position, justpress the "SEL" button and you will be advanced to the next digit position.

5) When you have reached your desired values at each position via the "SEL" and"+/-" buttons, press the "ENT" button to lock in this desired length. If you wishto make any changes, press the "SEL" button and follow Step #4 again.

NOTE: Be sure to follow these steps for each and everv measurement and cut.

Starting the Roll (Ip ProcessWith both Roller Buttons in the FORWARDposition, depress the Foot Cable and gently pullthe edge of the carpet across with your righthand for the first couple of feet.

Guiding the FlooringCuide the flooring until it is just past the lowermiddle roller on the Right Side Cradle and stopthe flow at this point. Should you require one,you can now place a cardboard core on top ofthe carpet laying in the cradle or just continuewithout one.

Rolling Up the CarpetTo get the roll started, release the Right SideCradle's top roller from its Latch and allow thisSpring Loaded Cradle to curl itself over the carpet.Apply some pressure by holding the Cradle Handlein place over the carpet, step on the Foot Cable, androll up the first two or three feet. Slowly release theHandle over the next two or three feet whilecontinuing to roll up the carpet and allow the SpringLoaded Cradle's tension to keep the roll tight. Onceyour programmed length has been reached, themotor for the rollers will stop, indicating you are nowat your desired length.

Rolling Qp the Carpet StraightContrary to what you may have been told, no cuttingmachine can square a roll of carpet. The only way tomake sure that your carpet is going to be cut squareis to ensure that it is rolled up square and flush onthe Right Side Cradle. To prevent coning ortelescoping, move to the right side of the machineonce you've got the first two or three feet startedand activate the rollers with the Foot Cable that runsdown the length of the machine. By adjusting thecarpet by hand as it rolls up, (iust like you would ifyou were rolling it up on the floor) you can eliminateany serious coning. If the carpet is rolled up straightand the end of the roll is fairly flush and not coned, then your cut will be straight and square.

Page 6: MK IV OPERATOR'S MANqAL Z.ZCUTltc.Desired Length (Row 1) Programmed Length (Row 2) Example::20.00 Ft. = : 20.000 - 0.12 (1.5") 19.88 (lf this step is too confusing when trying to reach

Prior to Cutting the CarpetPrior to cutting, there may be a slight "bubble"or "buckle" of carpet on the Inspection Areacaused by the momentum of the carpet afterthe rollers stop moving. To correct this, justpress the Right Side's roller button in theFORWARD position and the Left Side's rollerbutton in the REVERSE position. Now, tap theFine Tuning Button once or twice and this willflatten out the carpet on the table.

Cutting the CarpetTo prevent the carpet from moving during thecutting process, press the red Emergency StopButton which stops the rollers from moving in anydirection. To cut the flooring, press the Cutting Barbutton in the FORWARD position and the blade willrun the entire length of the machine. Once the bladereaches the end of the machine it will automaticallystop. Since it is a 2-way cutting blade, you don'thave to return it to the home end of the machine forthe next cut. Should you wish to stop the blade atany time, just hit the red Emergency Stop Button.

Wrapping the RollsFirstly, press the red Emergency Stop Button so as toensure all buttons are clear. To wrap up the cut piece, justpress only the Right Side Cradle rollers in the FORWARDposition and move to the right side of the machine withyour stretchfilm. Place the stretchfilm under the edge ofthe carpet, step on the Foot Cable and allow thestretchfilm to wrap itself around the flooring. Three fullturns should be sufficient. This same procedure can bedone on the balance roll as well. Once again, hit the redEmergency Stop Button to clear all buttons. Press onlythe Left Side Cradle rollers in the REVERSE position, move to the left side of the machine. and perfornt thesame task.

Measuring Full/Partial RollsIf you want to just remeasure a full or partial roll, and not make any cuts, you have to remember oneimportant procedure. Since the Counter stopscounting once the back edge of the carpet passes

by the Counting Wheel, you have to take intoaccount the small piece of flooring that doesn't getcounted between the Counting Wheel and theCutting Track. Therefore, prior to the back edge ofthe carpet passing over the Counting Wheel, measure the carpet from the back edge to theCutting Track and add this amount to the reading onthe Counter Display. Use the Conversion Table onthe Control Panel.

Page 7: MK IV OPERATOR'S MANqAL Z.ZCUTltc.Desired Length (Row 1) Programmed Length (Row 2) Example::20.00 Ft. = : 20.000 - 0.12 (1.5") 19.88 (lf this step is too confusing when trying to reach

Removing the Rolls from the CradlesOnce cutting and wrapping is complete, you cannow remove the rolls from the cradles without theneed of a lift truck. Just release each cradle fromits Latch and Safety Latch, push down on theCradle Handle, and the flooring will roll right offthe cradle and onto the floor. Obviously, be sureno one is standing in the path of the roll prior toreleasing it off of the cradle.

REVERSE ROLLING CARPET "PILE'' SIDE O(IT

Loading the RollAs before, place the roll of carpet on the Left SideCradle and ensure that the carpet feed is comingfrom the bottom towards the Counter with the"Pile" side facing up.

Preparing to MeasureAdvance the carpet to the Right Side by pressingboth Roller Buttons in the FORWARD position anddepressing the Foot Cable. Once again, guide thecarpet through and stop it at the Cutting Track, remembering to lift and lower the Counter Weight.

Programming the Electronic CounterWith the edge of the carpet flush along the CuttingTrack, you are now ready for the counting and rollup process to begin. Should you wish, you cannow program your counter to a desired length byfollowing the steps previously outlined in themanual. Should you wish not to program a desiredlength, just record what is being measured byreferring to the P1 screen's top row.

Page 8: MK IV OPERATOR'S MANqAL Z.ZCUTltc.Desired Length (Row 1) Programmed Length (Row 2) Example::20.00 Ft. = : 20.000 - 0.12 (1.5") 19.88 (lf this step is too confusing when trying to reach

Starting the Roll Up ProcessReverse rolling carpet requires the use of a

cardboard core, no wider than 4" in diameter.Prior to guiding the flooring across onto theRight Side, place the core in position on theRight Side Cradle. Now, guide the flooring onlyabout 8" until it is slightly draped over the firstlarge roller on the Right Side.

Securing the Carpet Around the CoreRelease the Right Side Roller from its Latch andfold it over the core so the carpet is pinchedbetween the small top roller and the first largeroller. Now, press the Right Side rollers button inREVERSE and the Left Side rollers button inFORWARD, and advance the carpet across theFine Tuning Button so it wraps itself around thecore (one wrap around the core is sufficient). You may have to adjust the amount of pressureyou apply on the Right Side Cradle Handle so asto get the carpet started.

Continuing the Roll Up ProcessOnce the carpet has started itself around thecore, you will notice that the carpet has begunto "bubble" or "buckle" near the full roll on theInspection Area. To eliminate this, first pressboth the Right and Left Side roller buttons in theREVERSE position. Now, as you maintain thepressure on the amount of carpet rolled up onthe core, tap the Fine Tuning Button a few timesuntil the carpet is flat again. At this point, youcan return the Left Side rollers button to theFORWARD position and leave the Right Siderollers button in the REVERSE position.

Continuing the Roll Up ProcessMaintain a slight amount of pressure on thecarpet being rolled up and step on the FootCable to continue the roll up. Once again, afterthe first two or three feet are rolled up, you canrelease the Right Side Cradle Handle and allowthe machine to do the work.

Page 9: MK IV OPERATOR'S MANqAL Z.ZCUTltc.Desired Length (Row 1) Programmed Length (Row 2) Example::20.00 Ft. = : 20.000 - 0.12 (1.5") 19.88 (lf this step is too confusing when trying to reach

Measuring the "Tail End" of the CarpetRemember, when measuring a full or partial roll, you have to take into account the last piece or"tail end" of carpet that doesn't get measuredby the Counter after it passes over the CountingWheel. Follow the same procedure as before -measure the amount that hasn't passed overthe Counting Wheel and add it to the amount onthe Counter's screen. Use the Conversion Table.

S(IMMARYOnce again, take your time and experiment with the machine untilyou feel comfortable operating it. Obviously, it is a good idea topractice rerolling smaller rolls of carpet and vinyl before attemptingto make any cuts. Don't expect to be an expert after just one or twotries as it takes a little practice and patience before you get the"hang" of it. Once you become familiar with the machine andconfident in what it can do for you, measuring and cutting floorcovering will become a simple and easy exercise.

Adjusting Counter ScaleIf the Counter is not measuring properly, call an E-Z Cut technician and go through the followingsteps:

1) Simultaneously, press the small button under the control panel dash and the "RUN/PGM"button. Then press the "ENT" button.

2) The screen will read "Program Scalers". Press the "SEL" button and the screen will read "CScaler". Press the "SEL" button and the far left digit will begin to flash.

3) Press the "SEL" button until you reach the desired digit position to change. Press the "*/-"button to reach the desired value at each position. Press the "SEL" button to move to the nextdigit position.

4) When each desired value is reached, then press 'RST/CLR".

NOTE: Decreasing the "C Scaler" by .01every 20 Feet (approx.)

press "ENT", then press "EXIT", then press "RUN/PCM",

will result in the customer getting an extra 7 /2" of carpet

Changing the Blade on the Cutting BarTo replace a dull blade, remove the two wingnuts facing the Right Side and slide off both greyguide wheels facing the Right Side. Remove the center bolt, the small silver washer, and the largerround plate/washer. Remove and replace the blade (Bevelled side out) and reattach all the propercomponents in their respective places. Also, adjust the Sanding Pad so it is always rubbing upagainst the blade to keep it relatively clean.

MAINTENANCE TIPS

\_Cou1ti1g Wheet and Counter WeightThe 12" Counting Wheel does the counting while the Counter Weight pressures the flooring upagainst the Counting Wheel to ensure an accurate measurement. Be careful when loading-andunloading rolls so as not to bang or damage these two integral parts. If damaged or dislodjed, itcan result in inaccurate measurements.

Foot CableUsing a thick grease, keep the Foot Cable well lubricated where it passes throughTubes" located at the base of the machine in the front end. Failure to keep theselubricated will cause them to wear, fray, and eventually break.

the 4 "Eyeareas well

Keep the Cutting Track CleanDust and fibers will buitd up below the Cutting Blade and can cause damage if not cleanedout on a regular basis. Daily cleaning is recommended by either vacuuming or blowingout the Cutting Track area so it remains clear of any build up. This holds true for theCradles as well, directly below the rollers.

ChainsThe chains that run the rollers and the Cutting Bar are lubricated before leaving our plant. These chains and their sprockets do not require a large amount of greasing to operateproperfy. Should they begin to appear dry andlor shiny, apply a light amount of gear oil.Constant greasing of these areas will just attract more debris and cause more harm thangood.

GearboxWe recommend that you change the oil in the 2 Gearboxes, located under the machine, once every year with a regular 80-W-90 gear oil. The oil level should be at the center of thesight gauge between 2-r12 and 4-112 inches from the bottom of the gearbox.
