    Notes:

    These instructions were written for a North American specifi cation MkVII GTI. Other models are similar.

    When disassembling the car, be sure to keep all fasteners so they can be reused. It is recommend that you get some kind of compartmented tray to organize the fastners, such as a fi shing tackle box or several large ice cube trays. Fasteners that are not reused for reinstallation are noted in the instructions. All directions used in this manual (right, left, front, etc.) are based on if you were sitting in the drivers seat of the car.

    These instructions assume that you have basic mechanical skills and several varieties of the tools of basic hand tools in order to install the kit. If you have any questions about the install, feel free to contact your APR representative.

    1) Using a plastic wedge or interior trim tool, remove the access panel inside the driver’s door jam.

    2) From the access panel, carefully push the left vent forward. The vent with the trim panel surrounding it, is just snapped into the dash. Remove the vent with trim panel from the car.

    3) Using a small screwdriver, carefully unclip the eight clips holding the front trim plate to the vent housing. It is easiest to start with the two top clips, then do both sets of side clips, and then the bottom clips.

    4) Separate the front trim plate from the vent housing. Be careful with the trim plate to prevent scratching the front, visible surface. Finally, pull the vent slats out from the vent housing.

    5) With a small screwdriver, press in on the four tabs (two on the top, two on the bottom) that hold the inner vent slats in place. Remove the inner vent slats from the vent hous-ing.

    6) Slide the APR gauge into the APR gauge pod. Install the billet strap to the back of the gauge and secure with the two supplied 9mm locknuts. Be sure the gauge is clocked correctly in the gauge pod (as seen in the car) before tightening the locknuts.

    7) Route the black ten connector of the APR harness from the side access panel up through the hole in the factory ductwork.

    8) Loosen install the factory vent housing in the car. With the vent fl ap open, route the APR harness through the left side of the opening. Do not snap the vent housing fully in place. The vent should still be able to be opened and closed from the front knob.

    9) Loosely place the APR gauge and gauge pod in the vent housing, being sure to connect the ten pin connector to the back of the gauge.

    10) Carefully reassemble the front trim plate the vent housing. Align the trim plate to the vent housing, and then push the trim plate onto the vent housing. Make sure the eight clips on the trim plate snap back to their original locations.

    11) After making sure the three pin connector of the APR harness is hanging in side access panel area, push the vent housing and front plate back into the original location in the car.

    12) Remove the factory headlight switch. To do this, with the switch in the off position, simply push in on the switch, rotate the knob to the AUTO position. The switch can now be easily pulled away from the dash. Disconnect the red ten pin connec-tor from the back of the switch.

    13) From the side access panel area, push off the metal clip that holds the wiring harness to the dash panel. The red ten pin connector to the headlight switch can now be pulled back to the side access panel area.

    14) Connect the red ten pin connec-tor from the headlight switch to the mating connector on the APR har-ness.

    15) Route the male red ten pin connector on the APR harness out to the front of the dash through the headlight switch hole. Tuck the APR harness in behind the headlight switch area and reattach the metal clip on the factory wiring harness to the dash panel.

    16) Reconnect the factory headlight switch to the APR harness, and rein-stall the headlight switch. Simply push the switch into the dash, push and rotate the knob to the off posi-tion, and release the knob.

    17) Raise the hood of the car and lift the cover to the battery. Disconnect fi rst the negative connection and then the positive connection to the battery by loosening the 10mm screws on the battery terminals.

    18) Remove the 13mm bolt from the battery hold down bracket. Remove the bracket from the car by fi rst slid-ing it towards the front of the car. Slide the battery forward on the bat-tery tray, and then remove the bat-tery and the battery cover from the car.

    19) Remove the two T20 screws from the panel covering the bottom of the dash. Remove the panel by sliding it towards the back of the car.

    20) From the engine compartment locate where the wiring harness enters the fi rewall behind the bat-tery location. Notice that the rubber grommet surrounding this is very soft and pliable.

    21) Using an X-Acto knife or some other small, sharp tipped knife, cut a small slit in the right side of the rubber grommet. This cut only needs to be around 12mm long,

    22) Push the small three pin connec-tor of the longer portion of the APR harness through the slit made in the rubber grommet.

    23) From underneath the dash of the car, pull the three wire cable through. Route the three pin cable to the side access panel are, running the wires above as many factory harnesses as possible.

    24) Connect the three pin connec-tor from the long wiring harness to the mating three pin connector on the harness previously installed. Secure the cable to the metal dash frame with a cable tie.

    25) Mount the APR MAP sensor to the APR bracket as shown, using the two supplied 3mm allen screws and fl atwashers.

    26) Route the male red ten pin connector on the APR harness out to the front of the dash through the headlight switch hole. Tuck the APR harness in behind the headlight switch area and reattach the metal clip on the factory wiring harness to the dash panel.

    27) Reconnect the factory headlight switch to the APR harness, and rein-stall the headlight switch. Simply push the switch into the dash, push and rotate the knob to the off posi-tion, and release the knob.

    28) Near the back of the fi rewall, connect your boost signal line to the bottom of the APR sensor, and secure with cable tie or clamp.

    29) Install the supplied wire loom on the previously installed wires that go inside the car. Click the connec-tor into the port on the APR MAP sensor.

    30) Mount the APR bracket on the middle post on the engine fi rewall. Secure the bracket with the supplied 10mm self-tapping plastic screw.

    31) Secure the wires to the map sensor to the factory bracket the oxygen sensors connect to and the factory wiring harness with the sup-plied cable ties. Any excess wire with the wire loom can be pushed back through the fi rewall underneath the dash.

    32) Secure any excess wire from the APR harness with a cable tie. Reinstall the lower dash panel. Slide the panel forward, making sure the front side of the panel slides into the factory clips in mounted in the fi rewall. Secure the panel with the two T20 screws previously removed.

    33) Reinstall the battery in the battery tray. Slide the battery hold down bracket in from the front and install the 13mm bolt to secure the battery in place.

    34) Reconnect the fi rst the positive terminal to the battery and secure the 10mm screw. Then connect the the negative battery terminal and secure the 10mm screw. The cover over the battery can then be closed.

    Care of your APR Intake:

    Clean your APR carbon fi ber intake only with the same cleaners you would use on the exterior of your car.

    The air fi lter inside the APR intake should be cleaned and re-oiled on a regularly scheduled basis with any of the commercially available cleaning and re-oiling kits available for cotton gauze-style air fi lters.
