Our History
Before founding MK Ginder, Martyn gained experience working within
the Funeral sector. It was during this time that the founder’s vision
of what a community Funeral service should be was formed. Martyn
recognised that in many cases the services offered by the industry left
clients with really quite a limited choice as regards funeral content, it
was Martyn’s view that his company should be genuinely committed to
the community and as such, he felt that to be entrusted with the care of
the deceased was indeed a privilege.
Martyn further felt that his company should offer bespoke and flexible
choices to clients so the life and character of the deceased could be
reflected in the Funeral arrangements ………. a mantra that is very
much in vogue today.
5
Martyn and his wife Jean formed MK Ginder
in September 1983, and whilst continuing in
her employment with Kodak, Jean supported
the business providing secretarial and
administrative support. Their new company
conducted 108 Funerals from their St Albans
Road premises in Watford in their first
trading year and since that time Martyn and
Jean worked together steadily building the
reputation of MK Ginder who have quietly
prospered for almost 30 years.
Martyn’s feeling that the company was to
serve the community was very much reflected
in his Civic life, he became a Queen Scout
in 1977 and was indeed a lifelong supporter
of the Scout movement. Martyn was a
Rotarian with the North Watford Rotary
Club, and a past master of two Masonic
Lodges and a Freeman of the City of
London. After Martyn’s passing in 2011, the
company continues under the ownership and
management of his family.
My Father always did his upmost to uphold
the dignity and respect of the deceased
and felt both proud and privileged to serve
bereaved families around the country. In
particular, those who had lost their life in the
line of duty or in the service of their country.

Union Flag –
United Kingdom
St. George’s Cross -
England

The Saltire– Scotland
The Red Dragon –
Wales
Irish Tricolour –
Ireland

We can also endeavour to obtain other National or Forces flags, or provide information on how you can obtain flags
personally through embassy or regiment contacts.
We can also provide a back velvet and gold braid medal cushion to display medals at the funeral, for those who have
fought or competed for their country.
17
White Dove Release
The release of white doves on a funeral provides a
very poignant moment in a very emotional day.
Provided in addition or as an alternative to flowers,
the release can symbolise many different
emotions that the family and friends are feeling.
What a Dove Release Represents:
A Single White Dove
Releasing the spirit and soul of the departed to begin their final journey home.
A Pair of White Doves
Releasing two doves represents the rejoining two souls, which previously have been parted, and can now be joined.
Four White Doves
Releasing four doves represents the release of the spirit and soul of the departed to be joined by the Father, Son and
Holy Ghost on their final journey home.
Twelve White Doves
The release of twelve doves can represent the 12 blessings: hope, joy, wonder, praise, peace, benevolence, comfort,
faith, perseverance, strength, love and grace, as they go with the departed on their journey.
It is possible for family members to hold and release the doves themselves, and this can be done, at church,
crematorium, cemetery, or afterwards at the family home. Other numbers of doves are available, please ask your
arranger for more details.
Our dove providers live locally and this provides the knowledge that the doves do not have to travel far by vehicle, and will return
home safely.
18
Highland Bagpiper
A highland bagpiper on a funeral is not something reserved for
Scotland or the funeral of a Scottish person, the bagpipes are
available to all, and they add an air of credence to the occasion.
As with horse drawn carriages, a piper alerts others of the funeral
procession, allowing them to pause, and pay respect, as the cortege
passes by.
Order of Service sheets
We can design and typeset high
quality litho or digitally printed Order
of Service sheets/booklets to guide
mourners through the Church or
Crematorium Service.
Other services we can provide
Advice on music choices, specific music
chosen by the Family.
Arrange to run video footage in the
Church or Crematorium.
Features at the Funeral
19
Traditionally the bagpipes would lead the procession at the church
or place of committal; however they can be played at the family
home, outside a specific location or in the grounds of the cemetery
or crematorium, playing in the background.
Most bagpipers now offer a choice of tartans and dress, and are
happy to advise what they believe to be appropriate for the day.
We are happy to arrange a bagpiper on your behalf, or we can
provide you with their details if you prefer.
Our trained and experienced staff will provide your loved
ones with the utmost care, we are always happy to discuss our
arrangements for the care of the deceased at any time.
After the removal, your loved one can be transported to one
of our three Chapels of Rest * with centralized climate control
which has facilities for hygienic treatment / embalming and
preparation for viewing.
Visiting the Chapel of Rest
Traditionally, visiting the chapel of rest to pay your respects
is done on the day before the funeral, however, we are happy
to accommodate families who wish to visit on more than one
occasion. Our chapels of rest are available between 10am -
4pm Monday to Friday.
Our staff will be on hand to arrange and conduct a viewing at
the Chapel of Rest. The deceased can be viewed in their own
day clothes or in a gown in a dressed coffin. We can supply
gowns in assorted colours together with matching padded
coffin liners.

M.K.Ginder & Sons
& Watford Football Club
Our Connection with Watford Football Club
M. K. Ginder & Sons have been associated with Watford FC for over a decade now, however the Ginder
Family have had a much longer association. Mr. Martyn Ginder, founder of Ginder Funeral Service, in
his youth helped his dad feed the players and supporters from The Football Café on Vicarage Road. In
more recent years, he would take his sons, Adam, Russell and Daniel to matches, before becoming the
Official Matchball Sponsor in the early 2000s. Mr. Ginder felt that the football club was an integral part
of the town, and his support of the club was in acknowledgment of the community spirit
the club brings to the town. In recognition for his support of the club, Watford FC
has paid tribute to his passing by naming the Matchball the
“Martyn Ginder Memorial Matchball”.

families from across South West Hertfordshire. They provide inpatient care, day care, an outpatient
service, complementary therapy, a hospice at home service and family services including spiritual

Chesham, Amersham and the surrounding villages. It is the only in patient unit with special facilities
that allow patients to be cared for 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It also helps patients who are
seriously ill at home and in day hospice but needs to raise more than £3.5million every year.
Grove House Hospice – St. Albans
Grove House believes everyone affected by cancer or life-threatening illness has the right to access
specialist care to have the best possible quality of life. They know there are some gaps. To fill
these gaps and ensure everyone who needs it has the support that is right for them, they will work
proactively with patients, families and other healthcare professionals. They recognise that each
person has different needs, so they adapt their range of high quality services to give support to both
at Grove House and at home.
Keech Cottage Hospice – Luton
Keech Hospice Care runs two hospice services - one for adults living in Luton and South
Bedfordshire and one for children from across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes. Their
aim is to help patients enjoy the highest quality of life, while providing vital support for their family
and friends throughout their loved one’s illness and in their bereavement. All of the charity’s services
are offered free of charge, every single day of the year. This is all made possible because of the
generous support of the local community.
Here at Ginder Funeral Service we feel that the work put in by the
staff and volunteers of both Local Hospices and National Charities
provide an enormous contribution to the wellbeing, care and research
in an attempt to improve the lives of others.
As a company we make a conscious effort to support the hospices and
charities and thank the staff and volunteers for their work, and in this
vein we offer a complimentary service of collecting donations made
in lieu of flowers for a funeral, collating together and sending them to
the charity on your behalf.
Your funeral arranger will ask you if you have a particular charity in
mind, if not we are happy to provide suggestions, of which we have
selected a few which we feel provide a much appreciated service.
43
Macmillan Cancer Support
Macmillan is a source of support, helping with all the things that people affected by cancer

They fund nurses and other specialist health care professionals and build cancer care centres.
British Heart Foundation
Their vision couldn’t be much more ambitious – a world where people no longer die prematurely
from heart disease. The BHF work alongside government, other health charities, healthcare
professionals and thousands of dedicated supporters to beat heart disease.
Diabetes UK
Diabetes UK is the largest organisation in the UK working for people with diabetes, funding

they’ve been at the heart of that progress.
Alzheimer’s Society
Alzheimer’s Society is a membership organisation, which works to improve the quality of life
of people affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Many of their 25,000
members have personal experience of dementia, as carers, health professionals or people with
dementia themselves, and that experience helps to inform their work.
Spinal Injuries Association
The Spinal Injuries Association is the leading national charity for spinal cord injured people.
They offer support and assistance from the time of injury and for the rest of a paralysed person’s
life; provide services to increase an individual’s quality of life; support the families of newly
injured people; increase knowledge and awareness of the causes and consequences of spinal cord
injury; and campaign for the best medical and social care for spinal cord injured people.
It is common practice to indicate the name of the charity you wish the donations to be sent to, in the newspaper obituary. Your arranger will confirm with
you the details for the obituary notice and will specify that donations made in lieu of flowers be sent to our offices, in order for them to be collated together. We
will also place a secure collection box on the funeral for those who wish to donate on the day, in the manner of a retiring collection.
Traditionally we like to leave the donation account open for approximately six weeks following the funeral, although we are happy to extend this if you feel it
is necessary. Once the account has been closed we will inform you in writing of how much has been collected and provide a list of those you have contributed.

A funeral plan is thoughtful way of preparing for the future.
It enables you to lock in your funeral director’s services
at today’s prices, no matter how much these costs may
increase in the coming years. By choosing to plan ahead for your
funeral, you and your loved ones will benefit from the reassurance of
knowing that everything is taken care of in advance.
Taking out a funeral plan brings many advantages: primarily,
it relieves your grieving relatives of the financial strain and any
worries about your funeral arrangements at a time when they will
be distressed. Plus, you have the comfort of knowing that that the
arrangements you want, including the type of funeral, venue, music
choices, and readings, will be carried out exactly as you wish.
The plan also contains an allowance for those additional costs, such
as funeral or crematorium costs flowers, doctor’s fees and clergy fees.
It is only if these costs rise beyond expectation that the family would
face any additional bills, no matter how many years pass before the
bereavement occurs.
MK Ginder believes that all funerals should be at the heart of the
personal wishes of the plan holder and their loved ones. They offer
Golden Charter’s Independent Way plan, which can be tailored to
whatever requirements you wish and this plan you can spread the
cost over several months or years.
Thinking about planning your own funeral can be daunting, which is
why choosing the right funeral plan provider to ease you through the
process can make all the difference. Golden Charter is the UK’s leading independent funeral
plan provider and has taken care of funeral plan arrangements for over 270,000 people.
Based in Glasgow, Golden Charter works on behalf of more than 2,600 independent
funeral directors across the UK – many of which are family businesses that have served
their communities for generations. They take pride in offering a local, personalised service
whilst ensuring you receive the very best value.
When you take out an Independent Way plan, you have the reassurance that your money
is protected. You select how you wish to pay for your plan and, depending on your
choice; your money is paid into the Golden Charter Trust or to one of the UK’s leading
life assurance companies. Your money grows and, when the time comes, we receive the
payment, including any growth, and use this money to provide the agreed services to your
family. No matter how much costs have risen in the intervening period, your loved ones will
not be asked for a penny more for the guaranteed services included within your plan. On
past experience, a pre-paid funeral plan give you better value for money than high-interest
building society accounts.
More information about the Independent Way can be found in the Independent Way
brochure. For a copy of the brochure or to discuss a funeral plan in more detail, please
contact MK Ginder.

PROBATE AND ESTATE ADMINISTRATION
In many cases when somebody dies, the thought of having to deal with a mountain of paperwork in areas
of unknown legality can be very difficult. Winding up a friend or relative’s estate can take much longer than
expected. There is often much to sort out, letters to write and people to deal with. Add to that the emotional issues
and the task can be daunting. Many are relieved to be able to pass the responsibility onto someone else.
M.K.Ginder and Sons recommend a firm of local Solicitors, Matthew Arnold & Baldwin, who are specialist tax,
trust and probate advisors with more than 100 years of experience of giving sympathetic help and support in
dealing with these complex and sensitive issues.
A simple telephone call from them may answer any questions you may have. Their initial meeting with you to
assess what needs what needs to be done will be without charge. They will agree a fixed fee for the work before
you incur any costs. Unlike many solicitors and banks their fees are not based on the value of your Estate.
If you would welcome the opportunity to talk to them we will be happy to arrange for them to call on you.
