    mmThis system combines all advantages of thecontactless magnetic measuring technology andoffers resolutions of up to 5 µm and a measuringaccuracy of up to 50 µm. MAGLINEBASIC is avail-able both as an incremental or absolute meas-uring system. MAGLINEBASIC measures incremental-ly as well as absolutely and either provides digitalencoder signals or directly displays the valuesmeasured at the position the sensor is placed.

    Distance and angle measurement isa standard task in machinery-building and engineering industries.For many years SIKO's modern andcost-saving MAGLINE products haveproved to be in line with market re-quirements. The contactless meas-uring principle avoids the disad-vantages of conventional measure-ment systems – such as rotaryencoders with rack and pinion,wire-actuated transducers or opticalsystems – and offers many advant-ages due to its extreme versatility.

    The core of theMAGLINEBASIC measuringsystem is a scale con-sisting of a flexible steel

    band and a magnetic layer, regular-ly magnetised with north and southpoles. The length of the intervalsmainly determines the system'sresolution and accuracy. For mount-ing the band is simply glued to themachine base and mechanicallyprotected by a polished stainlesssteel cover strip.

    For measurement and position indi-cation the sensor travels along themagnetic band, contactlessly sens-ing the path information.Depending on the system's preci-sion and maximum resolution,distances and tolerances of up to2 mm are allowed between sensorand magnetic band. A special con-version method deduces from theanalog measuring signals thelength or angle information andthe moving direction. There aretwo possibilities for processingthese values: direct display on themachine (via an electronic display

    A wide range of different types,system combinations, accessoriesand special solutions make the fullydeveloped MAGLINE product linesuitable for nearly every measuringtask in machinery-building industry.
