CCCC aught by Bye September, Hello October syndrome,

allow me to recall the good things that had happened to us all in MLI before we really bid September our sweet goodbye. I believe, as it is in the Bible, and by the great philosophers and great writers on Earth that it’s healthy to count our blessings first or in every step of the way before we get into this so-called life’s transition phase. They say we’d be more blessed if we do such. Counting our blessings is way better than merely bothering ourselves with the bad things that have been coming our way. I suppose there are a lot of them for you to count for. If you start along, you may be surprised counting continuously as the sky is the limit! September indeed has been a very blessed month for MLI. 1) The Chronicle has been launched; students and teachers have been writing; they’ve been very cooperative and more involved in school activities. 2) The In-House Seminar has been initiated; Teachers Rizalyn and Demi successfully started it off and then pretty soon new sets of skilled teachers will be proceeding and will be sharing their blessings per se to

And last but definitely not the least 6) New Classes (Music Appreciation/ Movie English and Journal Writing) have been opened FREE-to-TRY for the students late in the afternoon with the supervision of Teachers Vivian and Rhina. With the small and big contribution of each and everyone, we made our September truly remarkable and productive! As employees here, let’s be grateful and use our time efficiently. In Everything Give ThanksIn Everything Give ThanksIn Everything Give ThanksIn Everything Give Thanks

As you communicate with God, make a large part of your prayers the giving of thanks. Paul says, "Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Th. 5:16-18).

Prayerfully casting your cares on God while offering thanks for your blessings, results in a happy and joyful life -- you'll rejoice in the Lord.

I f you think MLI has given its all, think again!

Very recently, MLI has appended another color to its already colorful and energetic atmosphere. This is through having its own jingle and making its first day of the week enthusiastic through Physical Exercise.

Teacher and songwriter of the MLI jingle, Marco Salazar is the soulful key behind the nearly finished MLI song entitled “MLI’s World” whilst Teacher Tara Tupas is the bouncy leader of the Monday Physical Exercise which has kicked off first Monday of October 2011.

When asked about Teacher Marco’s reaction in making the very first MLI song, Teacher

Marco confessed that at first, he’s a little bit uncomfortable because he had no idea just how everybody would react to it. But after a while he realized that this jingle is not really just about him or MLI, it's about the lives of each and every one whose lives circle around MLI.

Meanwhile, Teacher Tara implied that the body movements and stretching that she’s going to instruct will be wrapped by fun and excitement and will be incorporated by physical health and fitness boosters. (Rhina R.)

First, you may save plenty of time with the smartphone. That’s why it is an all-in-one gadget. For instance, you are in your car and you get trapped in a traffic jam, you have a lot of tasks to do, you take out your smartphone and start ordering things that you need like purchasing movie tickets that you and your friend want to see. Also, you can remit money to someone. This way, you can finish all tasks in one day while you’re in your car. Second, by using the smartphone, you can have conversations or meeting

people. Actually it is possible that you keep in touch with them regardless of the limits of time and space. Therefore, you can have constant relationship with them in the world. But this also implies trouble for some people whom you have just met online as you may not know where you would be led by these sudden meetings, as you really don’t know the real personalities of these people you’ve just met through chatting and web conferencing. This could also igni te other d a n g e r o u s things in the end.

Convenient But NOT Convenient By: Rachel (Kyungsun Shin)

Development of technologies makes our lives easier and convenient but they make people stressful. These days many people are using smartphone including the iPhone, which can be used as a handheld computer. Smart phones are really useful to our lives. We can use it whenever and wherever we need to find some information. If we input what we want to know in those small cell phones, then they show the answer on a screen right away by using wireless internet. However, these conveniences can cause side effects too. First of all, when people newly get their smartphones, they are eager to find out what they can do with it. They search for various kinds of applications and download them. But the problem is there would be some applications that are harmful. And to use that application, you have to enter your registration number, sometimes your credit card number too. This process is needed in any case. If that server is hacked by someone, then our private information will be accessed easily. But it is difficult to

The Hidden Thorns behind iPhone “No rose without thorns” this common saying implies that all attractive things have negative effects. iPhone is a fantastic, useful and sophisticated gadget. No wonder a number of people are enthusiastic about it. However, you need to notice that these things in your hands can make you shed blood and cause serious wound in our society. First of all, the use of iPhone could lead to invasion of privacy. It turned out that its GPS system gathers user’s information without their knowledge. Another thing, iPhone gives users a free access to information on the web, which is dangerous for teenagers. For this reason, they can easily obtain harmful information such as snuff films and porn which obstruct them from studying or doing other important tasks. Given the statistics which shows that the number of teenage users has been increasing, it’s no doubt that this can be a serious problem. You have to consider the possibility of danger inside the iPhone and use

“Every Day” By: Comarx (Marco T. Salazar)

All alone, late at night,

Wishing in my bed I could hold you

tight,

And there's nothing more that I

want to do,

But only think of you...

There's nothing more I want In my

life,

But only to stay right here by your

side...

Wherever you go,

I want you to know..

That every day I'm missing you so,

And I want you to hear,

That I need you my dear...

And every day I'm losing my mind..

Because of you I'm losing my mind..

Every time that I see you smile,

All my loneliness I could leave

behind,

Like you hold the key to my life,

You get rid of its every strife....

Back then I should have let you

know,

That without you,

I have nowhere to go...

Right now,

I'm dying inside,

As I think I'm losing my only guide...

Uzbekistan on my mind… By: Terry (Woo Sung Gun)

P eople live each day in a seemingly custo-mary life. So they get tired and burned

out. In their quest to acquire new things, they crave to go to faraway places. They think through travelling, they can learn many things, they can meet many people and they can learn about other country’s culture. Others travel to get education while some to get new life experiences. In my case, if I could just visit any place, that place would be Uzbekistan. The reason why I chose Uzbekistan is that this country has many beautiful women. I heard that the country’s beautiful women who look like super models work in some farm. It is very surprising! I can’t imagine that in Korea. Uzbekistan isn’t famous for travelling. But I think travelling to less-known country is really travelling. Although there is a little danger, it will be very interesting. If I’d get the chance to go to Uzbekistan, after the travel, I would write down my experiences or make an itinerary for that matter. Maybe it would be an interesting itinerary because nobody knows the country. These days, people embark themselves travelling to famous places. Why don’t people go to less-known countries instead? I think it’s more fascinating and challenging.

My Purpose

At first, my purpose was clear. I only wanted to improve my English skills as fast as I could. I wanted to have a so-called investment in order for me to pursue my ambition to go abroad after graduation. I wanted to focus on this out-of-the-country

trip to study English. Such is the best place to study. Would it be in the Philippines or in Canada? I had several friends who told me how they thought of the Philippines. From their experiences, if I chose the Philippines, I must anticipate nightlife. They were anxious of me hanging out with a group made up of Koreans. I still thought that I would concentrate on my studying than anything else though. But like everybody else who chose the Philippines, until taking the plane, I was in deep thought, what

would my life be in the Philippines?

My Life in the Philippines

My MLI life has been way out of line with my expectations. First, the weather was hot and humid. It makes me darn tired. But despite the weather, I have met new friends who have been my supporters and might soon be my colleagues in the future: from the group of friends I’ve met while taking the placement test to the valuable teachers who have taught me from day one to the last day. I realized that what I was thinking was wrong. Instead of disturbing me and hanging out with me, my friends usually encouraged me to keep going when I was down on studying and advised me to be on the right path. In addition, they sometimes shared their thoughts with me and spent their time with me even though it was their break time.

My Growth

A scholar said that the process of reaching our goal is more important than the purpose. We sometimes pursue a tight life to meet our purpose. So did I before I left Korea. Now it appeared to me that whether my purpose has been served or not, I still live much for my desire. Though I’m still spinning my wheels with my English skills, I’m still wrapping up my thoughts over to communicate with people in English. Yes, it is too much of a pressure for me but nevertheless, the reason why I am still smiling is that I have met people who might be my colleagues in the future. Not only that, I’ve also had a lot of experiences and spent a lot of great time with them. I have become a more confident person. I’m slowly becoming a happy person as I was able to know that the ultimate meaning of learning is to know

(a short interview story)

The idea (of writing this story) appeared to me in a spur of the moment. It was only weaved when Ate Sol, in the midst of my busy-typing hour bugged me if I could sub some students. A minute later, Sachiko and Yoshiki as I’ve heard their names, entered my room unconsciously ignoring my Annyong haseyo greeting. Ate Sol with a big grin on her face interrupted and told me they‘re Japanese. Thinking it over, I realized that it was indeed a blessing in disguise for me as I was earlier advised to interview students with different points of view. And they (Sachiko and Yoshiki) being Japanese themselves gave me the eureka idea!

The involvement all began with the tiring tell-me-something-about- yourself thing on the first meeting. I learned that both Sachiko and Yoshiki worked as dog trainers in Japan. They trained dogs to be the guide of blind people. And they are now studying English in a desire to work in Canada. They would like to pursue their noble ambition outside Japan. Asked why they chose MLI as their English learning academy, Yoshiki stated that it was all because of a previous MLI teacher, Mr. Paolo San Pablo who used to be Sachiko’s online English teacher. And now that they’re here, both Sachiko and Yoshiki are amazed to meet excellent teachers here. “There are many good things for me in MLI, especially the teachers. They are kind, generous and friendly. I always enjoy studying with them,” said Sachiko. “MLI teachers have high teaching skills and they are warm-hearted,” uttered Sachiko. How about the Koreans students? Both of them agreed that Koreans are friendly, kind and caring. When they come upon some trouble in studying and if they are agonized with homesickness, Koreans help them to feel at ease so they f e e l

Red has always been associated with anger because of the way it affects your nervous system. It's a very powerful color worn by those seeking attention. Because of its tendency to draw attention but it is best worn by those with outgoing personalities and loads of self-confidence.

Yellow is the brightest of all the colors, but is also the most difficult to look at. It is associated with optimism, energy, creativ i ty , and playfulness. However, yellow is also worn by those who are irritable and ready to fight.

Blue -Universally, it’s said that blue is the most popular color. Associated with the sky and the sea, blue is known for i t s c a lm a n d s e r e n e characteristics, making people feel peaceful and content. Blue is typically worn by those looking to create own aura of

White -There’s no color more pure than white. It is said to promote innocence and a clean outlook on life. Those who wear white appear level-headed, optimistic, and stable. White also denotes sterility. White can make one appear outdated, morose, and overall unsavory.

Pink screams of sex and romance and is worn by both men and women who aren’t opposed to having a good time. Wear it well, however, because too much pink is also said to symbolize promiscuity and infidelity.

Green is the color of nature and healing. Think of grass, trees, and flowers and imagine how peaceful they make you feel. Green is usually worn by individuals who are calm in nature and have the innate desire to help those around them.

Grey is worn more by people who tend to wear a lot of black because it, too, causes them to go unnoticed. Brown and grey are two of the more simple colors. Brown is typically worn by those who also wear a lot of green: the people involved in the e n v i r o nmen t b e c a u s e i t

Black is actually associated with authority and respect, which is why many business men and police of f icers are seen wearing black. Additionally, black is a "safe" color because it’s often worn by those looking to go unnoticed and left alone.

Purp le - A lmos t everyone thinks of royalty when they think of purple because kings are typically seen draped in long, velvety p u r p l e robes. Because of this, it is also seen as l u x u r i o u s a n d sophisticated. It is best worn by those who are innately unique. Like most cool colors, purple

T o love what you do and feel that it matters---

how could anything be more fun?

No matter what work we do, our attitude towards our work is vital to our basic sense of self-worth. The ideal for us all is to love the work we do and feel that it has significance in our lives. R e m e m b e r 1 Corinthians 10:31. It says that “whatever you do, do all for the glory of God”. In my case, it teaches me that all my service ranks the same with God. Because it is not what I do that matters but the spirit I give when I do it. We are teachers. We become as we are and what God wants us to be. We are here not only to

And how about the Filipinos? “Filipinos are optimistic and friendly. I like their personality. I am also into Filipino food. It is similar to Japanese food,” assumed Sachiko. “They greet us with a smile but they sing songs everywhere. In Japan, we can’t do that. Japanese people are far strict and more shy,” replied Yoshiki. And the Philippines? Just like Koreans, Yoshiki also thinks that it’s hotter in the Philippines compared to in Japan. Due to the hot weather though, they tend to eat more fruits which for them are sweet and delicious. As for Sachiko, she noticed that there are too many children in the Philippines. What makes a happy life? By: Betty (Choi You Hyung)

T here are many things in the world that can give us happiness: money, authority, honor, family, love,

health and so on. In my case, there are three things that can make me happy. First, love; it is the most important thing in my life. If love is all around me, even if there are hardships to test my strength, I am sure to overcome such situations with the more dominating love of people who trust and love me. Next is health. It means physical and mental health. It seems to me that people would only value their health when we meet accidents. We tend to realize

When we notice a little scratch, then we’d think about health. If only I was a bit cautious. If we ate something bad and felt sick then we would recognize health. If only I hadn’t eaten that. In most cases, we tend to forget how blessed we are because we are indeed healthy. Why not take care of our health as it is very important? Without health, how could we be happy and do the things that make us happy? Finally, I think finding and realizing our dreams in life is happiness. We only have one life. Actually, life is short and we don’t know when it will end. So people just enjoy and do what they want to do until the right time comes. But I think there’s a reason why we were born. We have to find our real purpose because it will all make us happy. I think the quality life depends on having a dream or not. If we have ambitions and enthusiasm, our life will be brighter and happier. Without health, how could I do the things I love doing. Without love, how could I be inspired to reach my dream? Without dreams, how could I know my real happiness? So I think love, health and dreams make a Next —>>

If you feel your work is insignificant, ask God to open your eyes. When you do all for Him and serve others, NO TASK IS UNIMPORTANT but rather fulfilling and rewarding.

No Pain, No Gain

You wake up the morning after a particularly strenuous workout. Your muscles have that familiar ache which brings back the words of your childhood coach, “No pain, no gain.” “Boy,” you think, “I have gained a lot.” All of us have experienced the above scenario, but is the voice that echoes in your head speaking the truth? The answer is a resounding NO! Sore muscles are not the sign of a successful workout, but rather signify microscopic injury to the muscle, tendons, and ligaments. What you are experiencing is known as delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). Even though DOMS has been investigated for decades, little is known about the actual cause and many theories exist. The more common theories include the torn tissue theory, which suggests that tears in the muscle fibers are the cause of the pain, whereas the connective tissue theory implicates damage to the tendons and ligaments attached to the musc le s . The inflammation theory states that DOMS may be the result of the attempts by the body to repair the damage that has been caused by the workout. What we do know about DOMS is that the skeletal muscle is the only muscle type affected and DOMS can occur

in any skeletal muscle. The muscles do not sustain long-term damage and ultimately performance is not affected. However, performance may be affected in the short-term, primarily due to pain, but also from temporary loss of affected muscle to produce force. DOMS is not due to the accumulation of lactic acid in the exercising muscles as lactic acid is removed from the muscle within an hour or two after the exercise and DOMS usually occurs after 24 hours. Activities that require muscles to forcefully contract while they are lengthening such as running downhill, going downstairs, or lowering a weight (eccentric contraction) seem to result in the most pain. Typically pain from DOMS occurs in the first 24-48 hours after exercise and peaks by 72 hours. The pain usually subsides by 5-7 days after the exercise. Although most active adults have experienced DOMS, it is not a necessary part of your exercise program. Measures can be taken to avoid DOMS. Some of these measures include a thorough warm-up before exercise and with an adequate cool down at the end of the workout. The exercise program should be started with easy to moderate activity intensifying gradually over time. Don’t make abrupt
