CONCACAF CHAMPIONS’ LEAGUE EXIT FC Dallas fell, 3‐1, to Pachuca in Mexico on Tuesday, April 4 and were eliminated, 4‐3, on aggregate score, from the 206‐17 CONCACAF Champions’ League in the tournament’s semifinals. Dallas represented MLS well, having defeated Pachuca, 2‐1, on Wednesday, March 15, after falling behind 1‐0 in just the third minute of the match. Maxi Urruti equalized in the 44
th minute,
slamming home a chance from 15 yards out after Hernan Grana forced the goalkeeper off his line with a dangerous cross. Kellyn Acosta whipped in the game‐winner in the 58
th minute. The Homegrown player scored on a set
piece, 25 yards from goal. RUN OF PLAY Through three MLS matches this season, Dallas has not allowed a goal during the run of play. Dallas’ only goals against have come from the penalty spot, one versus the LA Galaxy on March 4 and another against Sporting KC on March 18 – Dallas recovered from the calls to prevail, 2‐1, in both matches. CENTURY MARK Maxi Urruti is in line to make his 100
th MLS appearance this Saturday against
Minnesota United. The Argentine has 27 goals and nine assists in league play. His career average of shots to shots on goal matches his jersey number – 37% – but FC Dallas’ favorite archer is shooting well above average this season, four of his eight shots have been on frame (50%). OPTA STAT HIGHLIGHTS VS NEW ENGLAND • Carlos Gruezo claimed the highest passing percentage in Dallas’ 2‐1 win against the Revolution on March 18 – the Ecuadorian completed 56 passes with an 89% success rate. • Maynor Figueroa completed the most passes with 62. • In just 30 minutes, Tesho Akindele created two scoring chances. • Kellyn Acosta and Carlos Cruezo also created two chances. DEBUTS Versus Kansas City on March 11, three players made their first start for FC Dallas – Carlos Cermeño (offseason acquisition from Venezuela), Paxton Pomykal (FC Dallas’ 15
th Homegrown player and youngest to start a game in
FC Dallas history at 17 years and 84 days) and Jacori Hayes (FC Dallas’ first selection in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft). CALLUPS FC Dallas defender Walker Zimmerman and midfielder Kellyn Acosta were called in by U.S. National Team head coach Bruce Arena on Wednesday, March 15, for World Cup Qualifiers against Honduras and Panama. FC Dallas defender Maynor Figueroa represented Honduras in that match, which was won 6‐0 by the U.S. at Avaya Stadium on March 24. HOMEGROWN Three FC Dallas Homegrown players started the team’s 0‐0 draw against Sporting KC on March 11. Jesse Gonzalez and Aaron Guillen made their 2017 debut, while Paxton Pomykal made his first MLS appearance for the club.
CONCACAF UNDER‐20 CHAMPIONSHIP Coy Craft returned to FC Dallas after helping the U.S. win its first CONCACAF Under‐20 Championship. The FCD Homegrown appeared in every match in the regional tournament, logging a total of 137 minutes. In the final, Craft delivered, scoring from the penalty spot in the 5‐3 PK win following a 0‐0 draw in regulation. Craft was loaned to USL side OKC Energy FC to retain match fitness – he played 44 minutes in two matches for Dallas’ USL affiliate. GET TO THE HALF Since 2015, FCD has compiled a regular season record of 33‐6‐13 if leading or tied at halftime. VERSUS THE NEW GUYS FC Dallas is 6‐4‐2 all time in the first meeting against MLS expansion teams. That record improves to 3‐0‐1 in matches played in Dallas. FCD has outscored expansion sides 8‐3 in home matches. OPENING DAY SUCCESS FC Dallas set an all‐time MLS record with a sixth consecutive victory to open the season, Maxi Urruti and Kellyn Acosta scoring in a 2‐1 win against the LA Galaxy on Saturday, March 4 at StubHub Center. HOME OPENERS FC Dallas has not lost a home‐opener since 2009, when Brian McBride, Justin Mapp and Blanco scored for the Chicago in a 3‐1 win for the Fire. Dallas is unbeaten in seven consecutive home‐opening matches at Toyota Stadium and has won every game since 2012, outscoring opponents 9‐3 with three shutouts. ABOVE AVERAGE FC Dallas accumulated 19 points on the road in each of the last two seasons. LAMAH TO ACOSTA 21‐year‐old Kellyn Acosta opened his scoring account early this season, netting two goals in a 4‐0 win against Arabe Unido on Feb. 23. The Homegrown showed a strong connection with veteran Roland Lamah on his first goal. Acosta made a late run to the top of the area, where Lamah found him with a crisp pass that the U.S. international could strike first‐time. The pair hooked up again, this time for a game‐winner in the 69
th minute of a 2‐1
win against the Galaxy in LA on March 4. ACOSTA IS ON FIRE Plano‐native and U.S. MNT midfielder Kellyn Acosta scored his fourth goal in fourth start of the year on Wednesday, March 15. ATTACKING MINDED FC Dallas is 34‐1‐3 since 2015 when scoring at least two goals. FIRST GOAL WINS Since 2015, FCD is 29‐1‐4 when scoring first. Dallas’ only loss was a 2‐1 defeat to the LA Galaxy on Aug. 15, 2015.
CHANGES Despite winning the Supporters’ Shield last season – FC Dallas bolstered its roster with 13 new additions for the 2017 season: Anibal Chala (Ecuador), Carlos Cermeno (Venezuela), Cristian Colman (Paraguay), Reggie Cannon (FCD Academy/UCLA) Jesus Ferreira (FCD Academy), Hernan Grana (Argentina) Javier Morales (RSL), Jacori Hayes (Wake Forest), Walker Hume (UNC), Paxton Pomykal (FCD Academy), Bryan Reynolds (FCD Academy), Roland Lamah (Ferencvarosi) and Adonijah Reid (AnB Futbol). TWO UP FRONT FC Dallas added target forward Cristian Colman on Jan. 26. Colman showed exactly what he has to offer with his one‐touch finish on the first goal against Arabe Unido in a CCL match on Thursday, Feb. 23. Paired with Maxi Urruti’s never‐stop‐running style, the two forward look could be the solution for Dallas until it’s No 10 returns midseason. FCD IS YOUNGEST TEAM IN MLS FC Dallas got even younger during the offseason. The additions of teenage Homegrowns Reggie Cannon (18), Paxton Pomykal (17) Jesus Ferreira (16) and Bryan Reynolds (15) give FCD the youngest average age in MLS (24.31). HOMEGROWN Major League Soccer announced on Feb. 28, updates to Roster Rules for the 2017 MLS season with a focus on cultivating young talent. Two off‐budget roster spots have been added to every club’s roster to sign additional Homegrown players. Always a pioneer in youth development, FCD already filled those two spots with prospects Bryan Reynolds and Jesus Ferreira. A NEW TOYOTA STADIUM New HD video boards and audio systems have been installed at Toyota Stadium during the offseason. An all‐new west side club has been added, along additional with two suites. FORTRESS FRISCO Over the last three seasons, FC Dallas is a staggering 38‐7‐7 at Toyota Stadium including a 365+ day unbeaten stretch through 2015 and 2016. FOR CLUB AND COUNTRY Still just 21 years old, Acosta has already played 85 MLS matches. He is poised to make a big impact with the U.S. National Team this summer. PRESEASON STATS FC Dallas faced the toughest competition in Argentina during its preseason trip to Argentina in mid‐February. In preparation for its first dive into CONCACAF Champions’ League knockout phase, the MLS side faced CA Lanús, River Plate, San Lorenzo, Estudiantes de La Plata and Racing before returning home to play SMU. REPRESENTING THE METROPLEX FC Dallas’ current roster has seven players who grew up in the DFW Metroplex, including Kellyn Acosta (Plano), Victor Ulloa (Wylie), Jesse Gonzalez (Dallas), Reggie Cannon (Grapevine), Jesus Ferreira (McKinney), Paxton Pomykal (Lewisville) and Bryan Reynolds (Ft. Worth).
60‐POINT CLUB Following its 0‐0 draw in LA on Oct. 23, FC Dallas became the first team in MLS history to earn 60+ points in back‐to‐back seasons. Dallas is also the 11
th
team in MLS history to finish a regular season with at least 60 points. The 60‐point total ties the franchise record set in 2015. INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTAR Atiba Harris scored his third goal across all competitions in the CCL win on Oct. 20, 2016. The St. Kitts and Nevis native has scored twice in seven CONCACAF Champions League appearances. MAURO DOWN FC Dallas midfielder Mauro Diaz had successful surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon in his lower right leg on Wednesday, Oct. 19. The injury occurred in Dallas’ 2‐1 win against Seattle on Sunday, Oct. 16. Dr. Robert Anderson with OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, N.C., performed the procedure. LINEUP SHUFFLE During the 2016 MLS regular season, Oscar Pareja utilized 30 different lineups in 34 matches. In 44 games, across all competitions in 2016, FC Dallas has used 37 unique lineups. QUICK ON THE TURN Across all competitions in 2016, FC Dallas played a league‐high 45 games. 20 of the 45 were played just five days or less after its previous game. In those matches, Dallas has amassed a record of 12‐2‐6. VETERAN MOVE Chris Seitz finished the 2016 season, second in MLS with 10 shutouts (one behind NYRB’s Luis Robles), second in wins (14) behind Robles and first in goals‐against average with a 1.04 (MINIMUM 2,000 MINUTES PLAYED). All three were career bests for Seitz. PAPI’S 100
TH
Dallas win against the LA Galaxy (Oct. 1) was Oscar Pareja’s 100th regular‐
season game with FC Dallas. With a record of 52‐30‐22 (current), Papi has the fourth‐highest winning percentage in the first 100 games coaching a club all‐time. He was the only coach of the top four to hit 50 wins in that span, aside from Bob Bradley who had two full seasons (64 games) in the pre‐draw MLS era. NO. 19 Paxton Pomykal will be the first FC Dallas player to wear Bobby Rhine’s No. 19, since the FC Dallas legend’s untimely death in 2011. No FC Dallas player has worn No. 19 in a match since Aug. 6, 2011, when defender Zach Loyd last donned the shirt. After Rhine died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Sept. 5, 2011, Loyd honored Rhine by changing his uniform number to No. 17. Pomykal signed his contract on Sept. 8, 2016, just three days after the anniversary of Rhine’s death. “I realized 19 was open and I knew why,” said Pomykal. “It was obviously not retired, but it was in Bobby’s name. I love his legacy. He’s a legend here. Growing up, I watched him a lot because I was always at the games as a kid. FCD fans waited 19 years, 1997‐2016, to see the club hoist its second trophy.

Loons Kick Off Texas Road Trip Against DallasFollowing its first win in MLS, Minnesota United will head out on the road for a pair of tough matches, starting with FC Dallas. Dallas has not played an MLS match in two weeks, last taking the pitch on March 18. It has played one CONCACAF Champions League match during that stretch, falling 3-1 to Pachuca. Undefeated Dallas are one of the hottest teams in the league, coming off a Supporters’ Shield title last season with a host of talented young stars. Minnesota will try to keep its momentum going and claim its first road victory. Head Coach Adrian Heath has a nearly full-strength squad at his disposal, including new additions Sam Cronin and Marc Burch. Fresh off the win, the Loons will be hungry for three more points in Frisco.
Minnesota Takes All Three Points for First TimeAfter a string of tough results, Minnesota United made its way into the win column by brushing aside Real Salt Lake by a score of 4-2. After conceding early, Minnesota answered back with a powerful header from Kevin Molino. The Trinidad and Tobago international set up Christian Ramirez in the second half to take the lead. Ramirez got his brace ten minutes later when he stole the ball off the feet of RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando and walked it into the net. Minnesota punished the Claret-and-Cobalt on another turnover just minutes later. Molino stole the ball, pulled Rimando off his line, and set up Johan Venegas for an easy finish. RSL was able to get one back late, but it was not enough to spoil Minnesota’s night.

Minnesota United FC plays in North America’s top professional soccer league, Major League Soccer (MLS). The league features 22 teams from across the United States and Canada.
After a successful bid to host the World Cup in 1994, the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) founded MLS to bring a top level soccer league back to the country for the first time since 1984, when the original NASL folded. The league was set to begin play in 1996 with ten teams: Colorado Rapids, Columbus Crew SC, D.C. United, Dallas Burn (FC Dallas), Kansas City Wiz (Sporting Kansas City), Los Angeles Galaxy, New England Revolution, NY/NJ MetroStars (New York Red Bulls), San Jose Clash (Earthquakes) and Tampa Bay Mutiny.
The league’s first match was played on April 6, 1996 as the San Jose Clash played D.C. United if front of 31,000 fans at Spartan Stadium. The league drew large crowds in its opening season, pulling star power from around North America and building on the excitement of the 1994 FIFA World Cup.
As MLS has continued to grow, clubs have begun moving out of shared American football venues and into soccer-specific stadium, led by the Columbus Crew who moved into the soccer-specific MAPFRE Stadium in 1999. Currently, 14 teams play in soccer-specific venues.
The league is split into the Eastern and Western Conferences. Each team plays 34 matches during the season. Teams play all conference opponents twice, once at home and once on the road, and each team in the other conference once, with an even balance of home and away matches. The remainder of the schedule is filled with matches against conference opponents. The top six teams in each conference at the end of the year qualifying for the MLS Cup Playoffs.
The postseason begins with the third through sixth seeds in each conference playing in a knockout round. The winners advance to the conference semifinals to play the first and second seeds in the conference. In this round, the format switches to a two-match aggregate series, with the team scoring the most goals over the series moving on. The same format is used for the conference finals. The winner of the conference final moves on to face the other conference champion in the MLS Cup Final. The final is a single match, hosted by the team with the best record in the regular season, with the winner being declared MLS Cup Champion.

After playing over 18 years in Europe, Heath spent the next 11 years coaching in England for clubs such as Burnley, Sheffield United and Coventry City before coming to the United States in 2008. The Englishman was named head coach of the USL expansion side Austin Aztex. The team spent two years in Austin before relocating to Orlando in 2010, to become Orlando City. In just four years under Heath, Orlando City won two USL Pro championships and three Commissioner’s Cups.
