Conveniently located on US Highway 29 in northeast Char-lotte’s University City Area, Mallard Pointe is located in Uni-versity Place, a 350 acre mixed-use development including over 950,000 square feet of retail, 1,500 residential units, as well as office and hospitality facilities.
Charlotte’s LYNX Blue Line, a light-rail transit service, is scheduled to be extended to the University City area along US Highway 29 in early 2018. In connection with the ex-tension project, a five-story parking deck is being built at the JW Clay Blvd station, less than 0.15 miles south of Mal-lard Pointe.

The prime frontage on US 29 provides excellent visibility. UNC Charlotte with a student population in excess of 26,000, the Charlotte Research Institute and CMC University Hospital lie across US 29. In the first three months of 2013 the University Research Park business community announced the addition of an estimated two thousand jobs, $100 million in new investment with the acquisition or expansion of nine firms. The University Research Park, with over 30,000 employees, lies across I-85: major employers include Wells Fargo, AXA, IBM, TIAA-CREF, Electrolux, AREVA, Rack Room Shoes, Allstate, UNC Charlotte.
A full-turn signalized intersection opposing the UNC-Charlotte entrance provides direct access into the center which provides easy access to and from US Highway 29. The signalized intersection lines up with the entrance of the Charlotte Research Institute. The Charlotte Area Transportation System (CATS) has approved a light rail transit line extending along US 29 past Mallard Pointe and into UNC–Charlotte campus. The transit line will begin operating in March 2018.
