CREDENTIALS

Admission to the Pauley Pavilion press box, sidelines and interview area is by credential only. CREDENTIAL PICKUP

Credentials are available during the week at the Sports Information Offi ce. Credentials not claimed before game day will be available at the “Will Call’’ window, which is located at the James West Center, directly across from the southeast corner of Pauley Pavilion. “Will Call’’ opens two hours prior to tip-off.

MEDIA PARKING

A limited number of single-game parking passes are available for purchase ($9.00). These passes are good for a special area on the top level of Lot 8 (to the south of Pauley Pavilion), which can be reached by following Westwood Blvd. into campus from Westwood Village.

MEDIA ENTRANCE/SEATING

A press pass enables entrance at any Pauley Pavilion gate. Press seating is located mid-to-upper level on the north side (opposite the team benches) of Pauley Pavilion.

MEDIA WORKROOM

The Chancellor’s Room, located in the upper northeast corner of Pauley Pavilion is the media workroom. Refreshments will be provided before opening tip-off.

MEDIA SERVICES

Working media will be supplied with a program, pregame notes, wireless code, halftime and fi nal statistics and a play-by-play account of the game. Quotes from both coaches will be supplied following the game.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS

Media members wishing to have stories or statistics transmitted from the press area should contact Amfax (Rick Laubert — 310/494-8757) for fax service. Media members wishing to order a telephone line should contact Verizon at 800/344-4831. Three telephone lines have already been installed at the visiting radio position courtesy of ISP, UCLA’s media rights partner. The UCLA Sports Information Offi ce has two telephone lines at the working press tables available for use following the game.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Photo passes are available to accredited media and should be ordered in the same manner as media credentials. Photographers must work from the baselines between the basket support and the right sideline. Photographers are not allowed to shoot from the sidelines or seating areas at any time. Passes should be worn in plain sight at all times.

POST-GAME PROCEDURE

Following a cooling-off period, head coach Ben Howland and selected Bruin players will be available for interviews in the media workroom (Chancellor’s Room). The UCLA locker room will be closed to the media after the game. The visiting coach will be available outside the visitor’s locker room (southeast corner/fl oor level/behind the bleachers).

WEEKDAY INTERVIEWS

Requests for coach and player interviews should be made to Ryan Finney/Marc Dellins in the UCLA Sports Information Offi ce. Please give 24 hours notice.

Head Coach: Ben Howland hosts a media conference (with selected players) on Tuesday during the season at 1:30 p.m. in the UCLA Hall of Fame Press Room (fi rst fl oor-J.D. Morgan Center). In addition, an audio tape of his Tuesday news conference is available for playback the rest of the week and video of the conference is on the Bruin web site (www.uclabruins.com).

Players: All interviews must be arranged through the SID offi ce at least 24 hours in advance. Players (and coaches) will be available before practice (2 p.m.) on Tuesday at Coach Howland’s press conference. Special player interview times on Monday and Tuesday can also be arranged through the Sports Information Offi ce. Please do not expect players to be available if you have not made prior arrangements.

PRACTICE

The UCLA basketball team practices in Pauley Pavilion. Practices are closed to the media.

Beginning this season, UCLA’s men’s basketball games will be produced by the UCLA ISP Sports Network, with AM 570 in Los Angeles serving as the fl agship station for the network (games will also be on AM 1150 when there is a scheduling confl ict with the Los Angeles Lakers). This is the 12th year of UCLA’s partnership with AM 570 owner Clear Channel. Other stations on the UCLA ISP Sports Network include KXEX (1550 AM) & KSLK (96.1 FM) in Fresno and KWDJ (1360 AM) in Ridgecrest.

In 2008-09, the UCLA basketball team will again receive maximum television exposure with at least 29 regular season games scheduled to be televised live. Two other games may be televised as “Wildcard” selections.

Three games (Arizona State, Notre Dame and at Arizona) will be televised by CBS, eight by ABC/ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU and nine will be televised nationally or regionally as part of the Pacifi c-10 Conference’s contract with Fox Sports Net. FSN includes 23 regional sports stations around the nation, including FSN West and FSN Prime Ticket, regional sports cable stations based in Los Angeles and available nationwide on Direct TV (channel 692 for FSNW and channel 694 for FSN Prime Ticket).

Ticket. In addition, eight games will be televised locally by FSN West or Prime Ticket. Bill Macdonald will handle the play-by-play duties for UCLA’s local Fox Net package. All four games of the 2K Sports Classic will be televised by one of the ESPN entities (ESPN2 or ESPNU).

Chris Roberts ([email protected]) enters his 17th year as the “Voice of the Bruins” and his 28th season broadcasting NCAA Division I sports in Los Angeles. Since 1982, Roberts has broadcast more NCAA Division One games in Los Angeles radio than anyone. Prior to joining the Bruins in the Fall of 1992, he served as the voice of the Long Beach State 49ers for 10 years and one with Cal State Fullerton. During that time, he was the sports director at KFI/KOST 103FM. A four-time Golden Mike winner, he also handles the play-by-play duties for UCLA football.

In 2008, he was nominated for the third time in his career for the Southern California Broadcasters Association “Play-by-Play Broadcaster of the Year” award. Roberts is a voter for both the Heisman Trophy and the Wooden Award.

Don MacLean, the all-time leading scorer in UCLA and Pac-10 history (2,608 points, 1989-92) and a nine-year NBA standout, will be in his seventh year as the color

analyst. Tracy Murray, another former Bruin standout (averaged 18.3 ppg at UCLA) and a 12-year NBA veteran, will be in his fi rst year serving as analyst when MacLean is fulfi lling television obligations.

THE HISTORY OF THE PACIFIC-10 CONFERENCEThe roots of the Pacifi c-10 Conference go back more than 80 years to December 15, 1915, when the Pacifi c Coast Conference (PCC) was founded at a meeting at the Oregon Hotel in Portland, Ore. Original membership consisted of four schools - the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Washington, the University of Oregon, and Oregon State College (now Oregon State University). All still are charter members of the Conference.

Pacifi c Coast Conference play began in 1916. One year later, Washington State College (now Washington State University), was accepted into the Conference, and Stanford University joined in 1918.

In 1922, the PCC expanded to eight teams with the admission of the University of Southern California and the University of Idaho. Montana joined the Conference in 1924, and in 1928, the PCC grew to 10 members with the addition of UCLA.

The Pacifi c Coast Conference competed as a 10-team league until 1950, with the exception of 1943-45, when World War II curtailed intercollegiate athletic competition to a minimum. In 1950, Montana resigned from the Conference and joined the Mountain States Conference. The PCC continued as a nine-team Conference through 1958.

In 1959, the PCC was dissolved and a new Conference was formed - the Athletic Association of Western Universities. Original AAWU membership consisted of California, Stanford, Southern California, UCLA, and Washington. Washington State became a member in 1962, while Oregon and Oregon State joined in 1964. In 1968, the name Pacifi c-8 Conference was adopted.

Ten years later, on July 1, 1978, the University of Arizona and Arizona State University were admitted and the Pacifi c-10 Conference became a reality. In 1986-87, the league took on a new look, expanding to include ten women’s sports.

Currently, the Pac-10 sponsors 10 men’s sports and 11 women’s sports. Additionally, the Conference is a member of the Mountain Pacifi c Sports Federation (MPSF) in fi ve other men’s sports and two other women’s sport.

Edwin N. Atherton was named the Conference’s fi rst Commissioner in 1940. He has been succeeded by Victor O. Schmidt (1944), Thomas J. Hamilton (1959), Wiles Hallock (1971), and current Commissioner Thomas C. Hansen in 1983.

Donald G. Morrison is in his 15th year as UCLA’s Faculty Athletic Representative. Last year, he served as President of the Pacifi c-10 Conference, a role he also fi lled in 1997-98.

Morrison, a specialist in management science and marketing, is the William E. Leonhard Professor in the Anderson Graduate School of Management.

A 1961 graduate of M.I.T. with a B.S. in mechanical engineering, Morrison earned a Ph.D. in operations research at Stanford University in 1965. He joined the Columbia Business School faculty the following year as assistant professor, served as associate professor from 1968 and was named professor of business in 1973. He has also served as visiting professor at Stanford and at the University of California, Berkeley. He joined the UCLA faculty in 1987.

Dr. Gene Block became chan-cellor of UCLA in summer 2007, taking the helm of a world-class institution comprising 37,500 students and 29,000 faculty and staff, with an annual budget of $3.8 billion. As chief executive offi cer, he oversees all aspects of the university’s three-part mission of education, research and service.

During his fi rst year at UCLA, Chancellor Block has called for the university to engage in campus-wide strategic planning, strengthen its civic engagement and increase diversity of the campus community.

A biologist, he holds faculty appointments in psychiatry and bio-behavioral sciences in the David Geffen School of Medicine and in physiological science in the College of Letters and Science. He also leads a research lab funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Dr. Block previously served as vice president and provost of the University of Virginia, where he held the Alumni Council Thomas Jefferson Professorship in Biology and headed an NIH

Over the past 40 years, Morrison has supervised the doctoral dissertations of a number of students who are now faculty members of other leading institutions. Many are now on key editorial boards and six have endowed chairs. Morrison was the founding editor of the professional journal, Marketing Science and was editor-in-chief of Management Science for eight years. He has served as departmental editor or editorial board member of several other professional journals.

In 2002, Morrison was awarded the highest honor in the American Marketing Association, when he was named the McGraw-Hill/ Irwin Distinguished Educator of the Year.

He is the author or co-author of over 90 articles, with a special emphasis on marketing research and applied statistics. He has been an expert witness as a statistician in a number of legal cases and a consultant to industrial fi rms and government agencies.

Morrison, who will be 69 on February 26, served as captain of the M.I.T. track team. In 1961, he was the Eastern Conference long jump champion and placed third in the long jump at the New England Championships.

Morrison’s wife, Sherie, is a professor in UCLA’s Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics department. Their daughters, Heather Felix and Michelle Oliva earned their MBA degrees from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA. The Morrisons also have three grandsons, Parker Graham Felix, Spencer Andrew Felix and Jake Carmine Oliva.

He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and has invented a number of devices. He holds a patent for a non-contact respiratory monitor for the prevention of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

A native of Monticello, N.Y., Chancellor Block holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Stanford University and a master’s and Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Oregon.

Dr. Block and his wife, Carol, have two adult children.

Daniel G. GuerreroDirector of Athletics

On April 25, 2002, Daniel G. Guerrero was named UCLA’s eighth Director of Athletics, succeeding the retiring Peter Dalis. A former Bruin baseball player, Guerrero, who assumed his duties on July 1, 2002, exudes the pride of a student-athlete who is now calling the shots at his alma mater.

Guerrero, one of the most respected and talented

administrators in intercollegiate athletics, has placed his mark on the program as the director of athletics at UCLA. He is currently serving as the chair of the NCAA’s Division I Men’s Basketball Academic Enhancement Group. He is also a member of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee. In addition, he is the third vice-president of NACDA, serves on the NACDA Executive Committee and is also on the executive board of the Division I Athletic Directors Association. In June of 2007, he was named NACDA Division I West Region Athletic Director of the Year.

In his fi rst six years, Guerrero has clearly established a pattern of “image and substance” that few in his profession can match. UCLA stands as the No. 1 University in the nation for NCAA team championships (103) won, a number that continues to grow under his direction. In those six years, UCLA teams have won 17 NCAA team titles (the highest total in the nation in that span) in 11 different sports, fi nished second 13 times and have had an additional 22 Top Five fi nishes. A staggering 113 teams (of 138 possible) have qualifi ed for NCAA post-season competition and the football team has appeared in six bowl games. The program has also won 37 conference championships in 15 different sports, produced 338 All-Americans and featured four Honda Award winners, including the 2003-04 Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year.

Furthermore, during the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, 57 Bruins participated as athletes or coaches, representing the United States and 13 other nations. They won 19 medals, including eight gold.

In the last six years, UCLA has fi nished second three (2007-08, 2006-07 and 2005-06), third twice (2004-05 and 2003-04) and sixth (2002-03) in the race for the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Director’s Cup. Only two schools (UCLA and Stanford) have made the top six each of the past six years, representative of UCLA’s place among the nation’s elite.

This past year, UCLA won its fourth consecutive NCAA women’s water polo championship, its fi rst NCAA title in women’s tennis and

its second in men’s golf. The Bruins fi nished second in women’s golf, tied for third in men’s basketball (third straight Final Four), women’s soccer (fi fth straight College Cup) and men’s tennis, placed fi fth (tied) in women’s volleyball and softball, seventh in women’s gymnastics, 14th in men’s indoor track and fi eld and 17th (tied) in baseball and men’s soccer. UCLA also played in its sixth consecutive bowl game and won fi ve conference championships and two league tournaments.

In 2006-07, UCLA won an NCAA championship in women’s water polo, the school’s 100th NCAA team title, and placed second in men’s soccer and women’s tennis, third in women’s golf, tied for third in men’s basketball, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball, fourth in women’s gymnastics, fi fth in women’s outdoor track and fi eld, tied for fi fth in men’s tennis, seventh in men’s golf and women’s indoor track and fi eld, ninth in men’s outdoor track and fi eld and tied for ninth in baseball. UCLA played in its fi fth straight bowl game in football and won four league titles.

In 2005-06, UCLA won two NCAA titles (men’s volleyball and women’s water polo) and placed second in men’s basketball and women’s soccer, tied for third in softball, tied for fi fth in men’s tennis, tied for seventh in men’s golf and tied for ninth in women’s volleyball and women’s tennis. UCLA also won the Vitalis Sun Bowl in football and captured seven conference championships and two post-season tournaments.

In 2004-05, UCLA won three NCAA titles (men’s water polo, men’s tennis and women’s water polo) and placed second in women’s soccer, men’s volleyball, women’s golf and softball, tied for second

In 2003-04, the Bruins won four NCAA titles (women’s outdoor track and fi eld, softball, women’s golf and women‘s gymnastics). They also placed second in men’s tennis, women’s tennis and men’s golf, tied for third in women’s soccer, tied for fi fth in men’s soccer

and women’s volleyball, fi fth in women’s indoor track and fi eld and seventh in women’s swimming and women’s cross country. In addition, the Bruins captured seven league titles.

In Guerrero’s fi rst year at UCLA (2002-03), UCLA won four NCAA titles (men‘s soccer, women‘s gymnastics, women‘s water polo and women’s softball). The Bruins placed third in men’s golf, tied for third in men’s tennis, tied for fi fth in women’s golf and women’s tennis, eighth in women‘s outdoor track and fi eld, tied for eighth in women‘s indoor track and fi eld and tied for ninth in women’s soccer. UCLA also earned six conference titles.

Over the past six years, Guerrero has earned numerous honors. In June of 2007, he was named the NACDA Division I West Region Athletic Director of the Year. His other honors include 2002 UCLA Latino Alumnus of the Year (October 2002); Cal State Dominguez Hills’ Alumnus of the Year (March 2003); and 2003 “Father of the Year” by the Father’s Day Council of the American Diabetes Association (June). Council honored him with Dan Guerrero Day. He also became the fi rst athlete in any sport at Banning (Wilmington, CA) High School to have his jersey (#8 in baseball) retired (2003).

Guerrero was named one of the nation’s Top 100 Most Infl uential Hispanics by Hispanic Business Magazine (October 2004) and the May 5, 2003 issue of Sports Illustrated listed him #28 among the 101 Most Infl uential Minorities in Sports. He was one of 28 people whose photo was featured on that issue’s cover.

In addition to unparalleled success in the playing arena, his fi rst six years have also demonstrated the overall excellence Guerrero has made a priority for the program. Belief in conducting a program of integrity has been a cornerstone of Guerrero’s leadership throughout his career. Named as a 1999 Sports Ethics Fellow by the Institute for International Sport, Guerrero has fostered a strong sense of commitment and dedication among his coaches and staff to the development of the total student-athlete experience. He has also served as an Executive Board member of the National Consortium for Academics and Sport for over a decade and is resolute in his desire to support academic achievement and life skills development for UCLA student-athletes. As a result, he has spearheaded unprecedented growth in the Academic Support and Life Skills program at UCLA. In Guerrero’s fi rst fi ve and two-thirds years (17 quarters), student-athletes earned 4,003 spots on the Director’s Honor Roll (3.0 or higher grade-point average for a quarter) and community service activities for the program are at an all-time high.

Resource development has always been a strength for Guerrero and his tenure at UCLA has demonstrated continued evidence of this skill. In 2004-05, he successfully negotiated two blockbuster deals: a new multi-million dollar agreement with ISP Sports, a premier national collegiate sports marketing organization, and a six-year, multi-million dollar extension with adidas, equipment provider for all of UCLA’s 24 sports.

Guerrero also led the negotiations that solidifi ed the relationship between UCLA and the Rose Bowl, inking a 20-year agreement, which included over $13 million in facility enhancements to benefi t the UCLA football program. He has also reorganized the External Relations area, integrating Corporate Sponsorships, Marketing and Development under one umbrella, in anticipation of a major revenue generating initiative designed to address capital project needs, operational support and program endowments.

Under Guerrero’s guidance, UCLA continues to aggressively enhance its athletic facilities, including the completion of the Bud Knapp Football wing of the Acosta Center, and the sports medicine and athletic performance centers in the same complex. A new golf practice facility and the Easton Softball Stadium renovation, benefi tting the Bruins’ golf and softball powers, respectively, were completed for the 2004-05 season. The installation of synthetic turf at Spaulding Field was completed in 2006 and the fi nal phase of the Acosta Center project (Olympic sport locker rooms) is now complete. The Spieker Aquatic Center and the renovation of Pauley Pavilion are the next projects slated for completion.

Guerrero has extensive experience in committee work at both the NCAA and conference level. He is serving his fourth year as a member of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee and also served on the “College Basketball Partnership,” a group formed by NCAA president Myles Brand, that included many of the most infl uential people in the sport. He has served as Chair of both the Pac-10 Athletic Directors Committee and the Budget and Finance Committee, has served on several Pac-10 committees and is currently a member of the Pac-10 Television and Football Bowl committees. He has also served on other NCAA committees, including the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee and at the time of his hire by

UCLA was serving as the second vice president of the Division I-AAA Athletic Director’s Association.

Guerrero came to UCLA from UC Irvine, where he had served as UCI’s fi fth permanent Director of Athletics for 10 years (1992-2002). The broad competitive success of its athletic teams, the academic excellence of its student-athletes, the development of new and improved facilities and enhanced relations with the UCI community, refl ect the progress UC Irvine Athletics experienced under Guerrero’s direction. During his tenure, the program continued to accumulate conference championships, garner national rankings, feature graduation rates among the nation’s best, and win numerous post-season honors for its student-athletes. In June of 2002 while still at UC Irvine, he was named the 2001-02 Division I-AA/I-AAA West Region NACDA Athletic Director of the Year.

Resulting from Guerrero’s resourcefulness and creativity, UCI experienced unprecedented activity in the area of athletic facilities development. In his fi nal fi ve years, Guerrero was the driving force behind $38 million of newly constructed or renovated facilities. These projects included a newly renovated track and soccer complex, a new 64-meter competitive swimming pool, a new baseball stadium and the Anteater Recreation Center, one of the premier recreation centers in the country.

Prior to arriving at UC Irvine, Dan came from Cal State Dominguez Hills, where he led that program to national prominence while serving as Athletic Director for fi ve years (1988-92).

Guerrero received his Bachelor’s degree from UCLA in 1974 and played second base in the Bruin baseball program for four years. His batting average in Pacifi c-8 Conference games over three seasons as a varsity performer was .343. Guerrero, known as “Warrior” during his playing career, was inducted into the UCLA Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996. The Bruin Athletic Director earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration in 1982 from Cal State Dominguez Hills and was named to the Pi Alpha Alpha Honor Society for Public Affairs and Public Policy that same year.

Guerrero, born on November 10, 1951 in Tucson, AZ, was raised in Wilmington, CA. He is married to the former Anne Marie Aniello and they have two grown daughters: Jenna and Katie.

In connection with the building, which originally opened in November of 1983, UCLA established a Hall of Fame with 25 charter members representing a cross-section of the school’s athletic history. Each year, a minimum of one and a maximum of eight former UCLA athletes, coaches or administrators are added to the Hall of Fame. The UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame enters its 25th year of its existence and its eighth in a new location facing Westwood Plaza. The new Hall of Fame, double the size of its predecessor, opened in July of 2001.

The fi rst fl oor in the east wing of the J.D. Morgan Athletics Center features the 8,000-square foot Athletics Hall of Fame and serves as the main entrance to the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

The Hall of Fame features state-of-the-art interactive displays; a mini-theater where Bruin video clips and highlights re-create past championship moments; a timeline of important U.S., California and UCLA dates showing how sports weave into the great moments in history; a collection of Bruin memorabilia and much more.

UCLA athletic teams have won 103 NCAA team championships and each of those fi rst-place trophies grace the Hall of Champions. Other exhibits include photos of UCLA’s fi rst-team All-Americans in football and basketball, Gary Beban’s Heisman Trophy, Wooden Awards won by Marques Johnson and Ed O’Bannon and a special display highlighting all of UCLA’s Honda and Broderick Cup winners. Displays on UCLA’s football bowl victories, the Bruins’ NCAA basketball tradition and UCLA’s Olympic Games medal winners are featured in the Hall of Fame.

Each of UCLA’s sports has its own individual display area within the Hall of Fame. In addition, there are displays honoring Jackie Robinson, UCLA’s Academic All-Americans and women in sports. There are also sample lockers of former Bruin greats in various sports.

In addition, many world-class competitions, including the 1984 Olympic gymnastics and a historic table tennis match between the United States and China; entertainers such as Bob Dylan, Bob Hope, Henry Mancini, Frank Sinatra, Luciano Pavarotti, Nirvana, Bobby Brown, Eric Clapton, Guns and Roses and the Grateful Dead have all performed in the Pavilion.

UCLA’s longest winning streak in Pauley Pavilion is 98 games (from 1970-71 to 1975-76 ended on Feb. 21, 1976 when Oregon defeated UCLA, 65-45).

Pauley Pavilion was introduced to the University at the June 1965 Commencement exercises, at which time it was dedicated and named for Regent Edwin W. Pauley, the principal donor to the building fund.

Total cost of the Pavilion was provided as follows: $2,000,000 by the State, $1,000,000 by the student body and in excess of $2,000,000 by the alumni with $1,000,000 of the alumni contribution donated on a matching basis by Regent Pauley.

Now in its 44th season as the home of Bruin athletic teams, Pauley Pavilion is regarded as one of the fi nest all-around collegiate facilities in the nation and has been the site of numerous illustrious events. While calling the 12,819-seat pavilion home, the Bruins have won nine NCAA championships and 21 Pac-10 titles.

On Dec. 20, 2003 the fl oor in Pauley Pavilion was dedicated “Nell and John Wooden Court.” Players from virtually all of his teams joined Coach Wooden to celebrate the occasion.

In 1991, Pauley served as the site for the 1991 U.S. Olympic Festival basketball and gymnastics competitions.

In October of 1990, a highly-effi cient lighting system was installed that doubled the lighting capability in the Pavilion. In October of 1999, a state-of-the- art video scoreboard was installed in the multi-purpose facility.

Pauley contains 10,337 permanent upholstered seats and retractable bleachers for 2,482 spectators making the total basketball seating capacity 12,819.

In 1996-97, the Bruins broke the Pauley Pavilion attendance record twice. UCLA welcomed 13,478 fans when the Bruins played Duke (Feb. 23, 1997), and 13,382 fans came to see UCLA take on crosstown-rival USC. UCLA has housed over 13,000 fans in Pauley Pavilion on seven occasions - most recently, 13,037 people watched UCLA defeat USC, 66-45, on Jan. 18, 2006.

UCLA is moving forward with a plan to raise funding and design a project for enhancements to Pauley Pavilion.

In the April 28, 1997 issue of Sports Illustrated, the Bruins were easily selected the best athletic school in the country. The article proclaims that at UCLA, “athletes from all sports thrive on the nation’s most jock-friendly campus.”

• An Outstanding Head Coach — The 2002 consensus National Coach of the Year, Ben Howland enters his sixth season as the Bruin head coach. He’s one of only three coaches in NCAA history to win at least 30 games in three consecutive seasons.

• A Diligent, Talented Staff — A youthful, enthusiastic group of coaches who believe in this program and are committed to developing great basketball players and even better people. Howland’s UCLA assistants include — Donny Daniels, who was the head coach at Cal State Fullerton from 2001-03; Scott Duncan, who spent seven seasons (2000-07) at the University of Oregon; Scott Garson,

who spent fi ve seasons at Utah (1999-2004) and Director of Operations Joe Hillock, who for 10 years (1996-97 to 2005-06) was the head women’s coach at Southern Utah.

• Academic Support — Providing the student-athlete with the assistance and guidance to succeed in the classroom and society is a top priority! Coach Howland, his staff and the athletic administration provide the best in general assistance, counseling and tutoring available at any university.

• The Bruin Family — Located in Westwood and bordered by Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and Hollywood, UCLA provides a prosperous outlook for the future with internships, workshop mentoring programs and access to one of the world’s meccas of business, entertainment, media and networking like no other major college program.

• Media Rich — USA Today, Fox Sports and ESPN have offi ces in Los Angeles. There are seven local television stations and 13 newspapers which provide regular coverage of UCLA. seasons, including six in the fi rst round. Recent selections include - 2008, Russell Westbrook was the No. 4 pick in the draft by the Seattle Sonics/Oklahoma City Thunder, Kevin Love was the No. 5 pick by the Memphis Grizzlies, who traded him to the Minnesota Timberwolves and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute was the No. 37 pick in the draft by the Milwaukee Bucks; 2007, Arron Affl alo was a fi rst round pick (Detroit Pistons); 2006, Jordan Farmar was a fi rst round choice (Los Angeles Lakers) and Ryan Hollins was a second round selection (Charlotte Bobcats); 2005, Dijon Thompson was a second round choice (NY Knicks and traded to the Phoenix Suns); 2004, Trevor Ariza (NY Knicks) was a second round choice; 2003, Jason Kapono (Cleveland Cavaliers) was a second round choice; 2002, Dan Gadzuric (Milwaukee Bucks) and Matt Barnes (Cleveland Cavaliers) were second round selections; 2001, Earl Watson (Seattle Supersonics) was a second round pick; 2000, Jerome Moiso was a fi rst round choice of the Boston Celtics and in 1999, Baron Davis (Charlotte Hornets) was the No. 3 selection in the NBA Draft.

• Tradition of Success — With a record 11 NCAA Championships, the UCLA men’s basketball program’s tradition for success is unmatched. The Bruin men are represented by six individuals in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Among them are coaching legend John Wooden and two of the greatest centers ever to play the game — Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Walton.

UCLA — THE COMPLETE PACKAGE


Over the last three decades, UCLA has established itself as the nation’s fi nest all-around athletic program.

UCLA has won more NCAA team championships than any school in the nation - 103 (71 men’s and 32 women’s), including 17 in the last six years, more than any other school in the country (Stanford is second with 12). In the 27 years that the NCAA has awarded both men’s and women’s championships, UCLA has won 63 NCAA team titles (31 men’s and 32 women’s). Overall, UCLA has won a nation-leading total of 124 collegiate championships - 103 NCAA crowns and 21 other titles.

UCLA has won at least one NCAA team title (men’s or women’s) in 26 of the last 28 years. In addition, the school has won at least one collegiate title (NCAA or AIAW) in 42 of the last 45 years, missing only in 1979-80, 1993-94 and 2001-02. Over the last 37 years, UCLA has won at least two collegiate titles 29 times.

UCLA has placed amongst the top six schools in each of the 15 years of the Directors’ Cup. In 1992-93, UCLA earned the award as the nation’s top combined program, according to the annual USA Today All-Sports Survey. Prior to 1993-94, USA Today conducted separate surveys for men’s and women’s programs. In the 23-year history of the All-Sports Survey for men’s programs (formerly conducted

by the Knoxville Journal), UCLA fi nished fi rst 11 times (no other school had more than six titles), second seven times, third once and fourth once and was in the top 10 each year. The Bruins won fi ve of the last eight men’s surveys and placed fi fth in 1993. In the women’s survey (formerly sponsored by Santa Monica Evening Outlook), UCLA won 10 titles in 18 years, including four straight (1988-1991), and fi nished second in 1992 and 1993.

In the last 39 years, the Bruin men and women have won 57 NCAA championships, 10 more than second-place Stanford and 31 more than third-place USC. Eight times they have won at least three titles in a single year. UCLA is the only school to win four men’s titles in a single year more than once, accomplishing the feat in 1969-70 (basketball, tennis, volleyball and water polo), 1970-71 (basketball, tennis, volleyball and outdoor track) and 1971-72 (basketball, volleyball, outdoor track and water polo).

UCLA has produced nearly 450 Olympians in its history, including 39 in 2008, 56 in 2004, 58 in 2000 and 52 in 1996. In the last six summer Olympiads (1984, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004) Bruin athletes have earned 149 medals, including 76 gold. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Bruin athletes won 15 medals (four gold, nine silver and two bronze).

An endowment generates income to the University in perpetuity. By investing the gift principal and using just the interest earned to help meet the cost of a grant-in-aid assures the Athletic Department of on-going funds to maintain the quality and diversity of its program.

Currently, UCLA provides fi nancial assistance to over 400 student-athletes participating in 24 intercollegiate sports. However, expenses such as the cost of tuition for student-athletes have increased dramatically in the last several years while department revenues have remained relatively stable.

Tax-deductible gifts to the Wooden Athletic Fund play a pivotal role in meeting the escalating costs of team travel, recruiting, equipment replacement and, most importantly, in providing athletic scholarships. Now more than ever, private support is necessary if UCLA is to maintain its position as the best athletic program in the country. Your help is truly needed and greatly appreciated.

To encourage private support of our program, the best football and basketball tickets are allocated to our most generous donors. Members of the Wooden Athletic Fund receive priority in the assignment of tickets for home contests in the Rose Bowl and in Pauley Pavilion in accordance with the UCLA Priority Seating Policy. Please refer to the donor benefi ts chart to determine season ticket opportunities. In many cases, special reserved parking is also available for our donors.
