1. Remind students that we are all learners, and that open, honest, and respectful communication will create an environment where everyone feels welcome and can concentrate on learning.
2. Introduce the term Self‐Regulation.
3. Explain that self‐regulation is a sign of growing into maturity. Whenever you can self‐regulate when others cannot, you are being more “grown‐up” than your peers.
4. Have students write the word “self‐regulation” and its definition in their Word Wall.

2. Explain that the two are opposites. When a person can self‐regulate, then s/he continues to do what is right even if there is no governing body (laws, teachers, bosses, etc.) watching and telling him/her what to do.
