    List of materials:

Read me first - Curved Fold.doc

    Geogebra files:

    parabola.html

    parabola.ggb

    parabola_with_distance.html

    parabola_with_distance.ggb

    geogebra.jar

    Worksheets, presentation and notes:

    Curved_Fold_PRESENTATION.ppt

    Curved_Fold_WORKSHEET.doc

    Curved_Fold_REFLECTION.doc

    Notes on Geogebra files:

To use my Geogebra worksheet without making changes just simply openparabola.htmlor parabola_with_distance.htmlusing Internet Explorer oranother web-browser (simply click on the file). This file WILL NOT WORKunlessyou have the three files types below ALL saved in the same directory.

    example_of_file_name.html

    example_of_file_name.ggb

    geogebra.jar

If you want to change the file I made then you need to have Geogebra installedor run the online version of it on www.geogebra.org . Openexample_of_file_name.ggb and have fun!

There are at least three ways you can use Geogebra:

Online on www.geogebra.org using the Webstart : you can create new files

    or open existing ones

On your own machine after installing the software (download it from

    www.geogebra.org)

Run files produced by others in the form of .html file (I call them applets)

    Geogebra:

    Is free: www.geogebra.org.

is easy to learn and easy for pupils to learn to use it themselves. Because

it is freely available, they can have it too.

Resources are shared between users on a Geogebra wiki (just use Google

    to find it).

Can be used online only if you cannot install it.

Requires a Java enabled PC or Mac.

Documents can be exported to create a html file with your work (if youwant to share your work in the schools VLE) by using the export facility.

    How to use the applets:

For parabola.htmlclick on a red point and slide it using the arrow keys on thekeyboard. You can also drag a red point using the mouse. Try both and see the

    difference.

For parabola_with_distance.htmldo the same as above. Also click on thebottom arrow buttons to see the animation step-by-step from steps 12 to 20.

On both files you can also move the blue point. I advise you to refresh the applet

by clicking on the applet and scrolling whilst holding the mouse button.

    Worksheets:

The worksheet Curved_Fold_WORKSHEET.doc is intended as a first approach to

the topic. To explore the topic fully we envisage using the worksheets on pages13 to 19 from the book Project origami by Thomas Hull and published by AKPeters. The worksheets can be downloaded for free fromhttp://www.akpeters.com/projectorigami/Worksheets-ProjectOrigami.pdf. Thenotes for teachers are in the book.

    Note:

The file Curved_Fold_REFLECTION.doc contains points we have asked teachers

to reflect on at our training sessions.
