What has changed that we should consider as we update

the plan?

• New directive from the federal government : focus for special education should be on accessing the state standards curriculum

• The Olmstead Plan• Others?

Page 13: MN Collaborative for Children who are Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing From Data to Action A Community Approach to Improving Outcomes

Communication

• We all have different stories and draw conclusions • There is information we don’t have that others can

provide through listening to their stories/information• Moving from certainty of our story to curiosity of

other stories provides us with the full picture• How you each see things matters, how you feel

matters• We can assert the strength of our views without

diminishing the views and feelings of someone else and get a broader view.

group, and in the small group if requested.• No side conversations and cross-talking whether

speaking or signing during presentations and discussions.• Share the conversation so that everyone has an equal

opportunity to express their ideas.• Sign for yourself if comfortable, make it clear to the

interpreter if you want to use her services.• Allow for lag time for interpreter.
