Welding & Metals Technology Program October 20, 2015

MTH150 will allow the Welding AAS to be in-line with our Engineering Technology programs. IND104 was deleted as a class in early 2015. The content from that course was rolled into IND l 00 Intro to Manufacturing. IND203 was also deleted at the same time as INDI04. At this time, nothing will take the place of IND203 in the sequence; there will still be enough overall credits in the program. Because A WS testing will now be spread across Welding I, II, III, and IV, students no longer need the Welding Capstone in their final semester (the capstone course was where students tested for A WS). The capstone course is being replaced with WLD220 Special Problems in Welding. If a student needs additional practice for the A WS certification, it can be done in this course. If not, a student can work on a certain skill set before preparing to enter the workforce.

Change Course Description:

From: This beginning level welding course involves instruction and practice in the safe operation of Oxy-acetylene welding and cutting, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), AC/DC, and an overview of welding methods. This class utilizes certified American Welding Society (A WS) curriculum. Successful completion of WLD 101, WLD 102, WLD 201, and WLD 202 prepares students to take WLD 280 and the A WS certification exam. (FA, SP)

To: This course is an introduction to basic skills necessary in A WS Level I welder training. Oxy-fuel cutting, welding and brazing skills will be taught. OMA W (gas metal arc welding) and FCA W (flux cored arc welding) on plate will be performed in addition to weld symbol intetpretation and safety. Time permitting, other processes may be explored. This class utilizes certified American Welding Society (A WS) curriculum. Students seeking A WS certification may take applicable hands-on tests during the course. (FA, SP)
