Then you'll just avoidsigning in with your Google account and downloada non-Google app store. You can disable Google'slocation service, set another default search engine, add a mail client from a non-Google vendor, loadthe settings and profile data Google has allowedyou to export into your new apps, and you've beenwell and truly de-Googled."

QUESTION: how has mobile changed your behaviour?(can you even remember or imagine life without one?)Mobile is at the forefront of rethinking communication. Butin order to understand its potential we need to lookbeyond the SMS's, the appvertising and the text voting. We need to stop thinking of mobile as a technology and atool, and look at it through the eyes of people and theirbehavioral abilities; because its people, not features, thatshould drive innovation in communication.

The chip implant in the back of our neck, or inside theretina, might be some decades away, but mobile isalready offering a lot of the functionality presented in sci-fimovies as a remote control to communicate and respondto future connected environments.http://www.180360720.no/index.php/archive/12-reasons-to-rethink-mobile/

South Africa had about 5.2 million people living with HIV and AIDSin 2009, more than any other country[i] HIV prevalence for youthaged 2-14 years is 5.6%, and for those 15-24 years it is 9.3%[ii]

Mobile text-chat is an ideal way of providing HIV counselling: it'scheap for users; people can get counselling from anywhere (liketheir bedroom); it's efficient for providers (as counsellors cancounsel many people at the same time); and it's an appropriateway of getting youth to talk about HIVTraining counsellors to understand "chat" language allowed themto communicate on the same level as the users. Once they wereused to text-based counselling, they were able to handle up to10+ conversations at the same time. Also, due to the lesspersonal nature of chat, counsellors found that users would getto the point far quicker.http://www.cell-Iife.org/communicate/mxit-counselling-red-and-redchatzonehttp://mobileactive.org/case-studies/red-chat

This is how it works: Person buys drugs. Person scratchesa sticker on the bottle or packet to reveal a 12 digitpseudorandom number, then sends it to an SMSshortcode (a five digit number). Person gets an SMSresponse about whether the drugs are good or not.In that time, the 12 digit number has been routed from thelocal telecom to servers in the United States, hosted byAmazon. It gets checked against the database, and theyget a response SMS telling them whether they shouldreturn the drugs, or ingest them. The cost of the service is footed by drug companies, whobenefit both from preventing pirates from counterfeitingtheir wares, and maintaining their brand reputation (infantdeaths linked to your brand is not good for business).

researchers there have created nanosensors--injected like a tattoojust under the skin--that fluoresce under a special light source, indicating the patient's glucose levels, according to a report inMIT's Technology Review.

The developers also created an iPhone attachment that providesthree-way LED lighting under which the nanosensors fluoresce, and takes an image of the fluorescence. That image istransmitted to a computer program for analysis, the Reviewexplains. More fluorescence indicates the patient has more ofthe target compound in his or her bloodstream.

Researchers now are working an app to enable the reader deviceitself to analyze the level of fluorescence, so that clinicians couldmake determinations at the bedside, rather than having to exportthe information to another computer, Heather Clark, team leaderfor the project, tells the Review. They're also tweaking theenergy source, hoping to get rid of the device's existing nine-voltbattery, and possibly even tap the smartphone's own power torun it.

M-PESA Customers can deposit and withdraw money from anetwork of agents that includes airtime resellers and retailoutlets acting as banking agents. M-PESA is operated bySafaricom, a Mobile network operator (MNO), which is notclassed as a deposit-taking institution (such as a bank). Therefore, M-PESA may not be advertised as a banking service

M-PESA was first launched by the Kenyan MNO Safaricom, anaffiliate of Vodafone, in March 2003.[3] M-PESA quickly captureda significant market share for cash transfers, and grewastoundingly quickly, capturing 6.5 million subscribers by May2009 with 2 million daily transactions in Kenya alone. As ofNovember 2011, M-PESA has over 14 million subscribers andwell over 28,000 agents across the country. [1]

. In December 2008, a group of banks reportedly lobbied theKenyan finance minister to audit M-PESA, in an effort to at leastslow the growth of the service. This ploy failed, as the auditfound that the service was robust.https:/Ien.wikipedia.org/wikilM-Pesa

http://blog.whatitslikeontheinside.com/201010S/introducing-google-appinventor. htmlhttp://appinventoredu.mit.edu/I've taught beginning programming for years and there area lot of smart, creative students who get bogged downwith the syntax and cryptic error messages you get whenyou type in code. They come to computer science excitedabout technology and immediately face these weird, frustrating mechanics. With App Inventor, beginners can build really cool appswithin hours. Instead of typing code, you plug puzzlepieces together. They only fit together if they're supposedto. Instead of remembering and typing commands, youchoose from the high-level functions (puzzle pieces)provided. And your first programs aren't printing "helloworld" on the screen - they're reading the GPS sensoror sending a text to a group of friends.

The company wouldtake in ideas and use App Inventor to turn them into interactive, working prototypes within hours. App Inventor is that good, andturn-around time is that fast. I wouldn't be restricted to hiring onlyexperienced, expert programmers.I've had a number of students transition from my App Inventorcourse to a course based on Python and they've thrived.
