Mobile Solutions• Phone type specific “Native App”
• Cross-phone compatible “Web Native App”
• Mobile “Version” of Site
• “Non-web” (SMS) Applications
App Development Costs• Low: Simple display of RSS fed content
• Medium: Customized display, fuller ‘content browsing’
• High: Above plus user interaction (saving, commenting)
• Key cost drivers: # of Layouts & Function Diversity Required, phone platforms supported
The App Gap?
Mobile Site Development Costs• Low: Simple ‘read’ view of high priority content - *not* a
mobile view of “every page,” auto-detect mobile visitors, serve up mobile version
• Medium: Can provide “mobile version” of 1 or 2 select content types – i.e. if mobile user navigates to a publication URL, serve up the mobile version of that publication detail page.
• High: All content types and user actions optimized for mobile.
Mobile Site Development Costs• Key cost driver: How much of a 1-to-1 match there is for
mobile version of full-web pages.
• Tip: For WordPress sites, can provide a full mobile version at a low price point through use of pre-existing mobile theme.
Mobile & Drupal• Can connect directly to Drupal Managed Site Content
• Can “manage” mobile content within Drupal Site admin
• Drupal provides ability to turn any “view” into a “web service” that can drive mobile app content (http://drupal.org/project/services)
• Proven SMS integration for supporting content collection & notice delivery. (http://drupal.org/project/smsframework)
