Tomorrow's Solutions for Today

In order to reach the optimum capacity and sizeof end product, waste management operatorshave often chosen a separate shredder for individualtypes of material. This solution has worked wellas long as there are only certain types of wastefractions to be treated. However, as treated materialchanges, it usually requires additional equipmentto optimize the treatment process.

Another frequent solution has been to treat thematerial in two stages by using a primary and asecondary shredder in the same process. Thisnaturally increases the investment required as wellas the operation costs. Further problems are oftencaused by the difficulties in synchronizing the twodifferent types of shredders. These are some ofthe challenges we saw in developing our newmobile shredder.

One Investment Multiple Uses

What Are the Customer Benefits?

The TANA SHARK brings the customer thefollowing tangible benefits measurable inmoney:

üOne machine/unit = Less investment

üModular construction = Increased flexibility between models

üPurpose-built rotor and counter tool designs + rotor screen = Optimized end product size and capacity

ü Quick change of rotors and counter tools = High level of uptime

TANA Revolutionizes Traditional Thinking onShredding

In its R&D Tana Oy has invested heavily in exploringcustomer feedback. As a result, the TANA SharkMobile Shredder Unit is unique in its versatility. The TANA Shark is suitable for the mechanicaltreatment of most recoverable, recyclable andreusable materials - whether it was for just volumereduction, recyclable material production orrenewable energy fuel production.

The versatility of the TANA Shark makes it possiblefor a customer to invest in one shredder unit thatallows a quick and cost efficient conversion to suitmost waste fractions. The TANA Shark may beused either as a primary shredder only or toprocess the material into an end product asrequired. It is available as a single or a twin rotormodel. The investment or efficiency is notcompromised in spite of changes in waste materialtypes or contracts.

Basics of Versatility

TANA Sharks versatility is based on the very shorttime required to change rotors to suit differentmaterials (pat. pend.). Other significant factors arethe interchangeability of the modular counter tools, the plug-in rotor screens and the optional shreddingprocess programming tailored to different wastefractions.

Rotor Installation

The unique installation of the rotor (patent pending)allows for a quick and easy replacement of therotor. This enables the use of an optimum rotortype in one machine for different waste fractions.

Multiple Shredding Tool Configurations

The rotors are available with various optionalshredding tools. They come in different shapes, dimensions, number and placement for multipleuses, all exclusively designed for their purposes.

Versatility in PracticeTANA Control System (TCS)

For capacity optimization, the TANA Shark isoperated through the TANA Control System (TCS),complete with pre-programmed process parametersfor the most common waste fractions. The optionalOneTouch function enables the operator to selectthe desired program at the press of a button. Theoperator may also alter the program parametersand enter new settings for fine tuning of the processwith specific waste fractions.

Platforms Available for Every Purpose

The customers may select their shredder to beinstalled on any of the four options available:

Hook Lift Platform Fifth Wheel (Trailer) Platform (see illustration) Self-Propelled Tracks Free Standing Platform with adjustable struts

In addition to the above, the TANA Shark is alsoavailable as an electrically powered mobile or non-mobile version.

Modular Counter Tools

The sizes and shapes of the counter tools play anessential role in determining the capacity of theshredder and the particle size of the end product. The TANA Shark is available with variable typesof counter tools that come in bolt-on modules ofmultiple tools. This enables a quick and easyreplacement and even reversal of the modules.

Plug-In Rotor Screens

We also offer a variety of rotor screens with differentmesh sizes and shapes. The rotor screens are ofthe plug-in type, making the installment andremoval work easy in field conditions.

5

Bi-Directional Rotor(s)

The shredding rotor may be operated in eitherdirection to maximize feed throughput. This functionassists in enabling uninterrupted flow of the materialfractions through the shredder.

6

TANA Control System Provides Cost Efficiency,Operational Reliability and Longer Lifetime

Tana Control System (TCS) monitors all operativefunctions in the TANA Shark. It prevents machinedamage caused by any problems in the drivelineand controls the rotor movements depending onthe selected work mode. The TCS LCD panel actsas the instrument panel displaying to the operatorinformation from over 100 different pieces ofinformation, e.g. the malfunctions log, fuelconsumption, loading rate, service intervals, etc.

For service and maintenance staff, the TCSfunctions as a set-up screen for the system baseadjustments and acts also as a diagnostics tool. All system alarms and machine malfunctions arelogged in the TCS memory for easy monitoringand downloading at a later date. This in effectreduces downtime costs and limits potentialdamage to the powertrain.

TCS also prevents overloading of the powertrainand automatically adjusts the TANA Shark for the

Trusty Operational Reliabilityoptimum output level. Whenever the loading ofthe shredder approaches its limits, TCS adjuststhe hydraulic pumps accordingly and changesrotary direction when necessary. The rotarydirection is also reversed during less-than-optimumloading to increase throughput

Remote Control Unit Easy and Safe Operation

The TANA Shark is available with an optionalremote control unit (RCU) which allows the operatorof the loading machine (e.g. a wheel loader etc.)to operate the shredder from his cab. This boostsoperational safety and ease of use.

Two Diesel Engine Choices Caterpillarand Cummins

Depending on the model, the TANA Shark ispowered by two of the worlds leading diesel enginemanufacturers, Caterpillar and Cummins. Bothbrands are renowned for their reliability andoperational economy.

7

TANA Powertrain Simplicity Means Reliability

The TANA Shark utilises a hydrostatic powertrainidentical to the one used in TANA landfill com-pactors. The reliable Bosch-Rexroth and Sauer-Danfoss hydraulic pumps and motors are linkedto TCS, creating an efficient and maintenance-friendly power transmission system.

The unchallenged advantages of the TANA Sharkare the pressure cut-off system protecting theshredder from hydraulic shocks and the closedcentre hydraulic system allowing the rotor to beoperated in either direction.

Shredding Performance OptimumEnd-Product Quality

The shredding performance of the TANA Shark isin a class of its own. The TANA Shark uses small, reduced gapping between the shredding tools andthe counter tools, producing uniform quality endproduct at high capacities with most waste fractions. The counter tool panels open to remove non-crushable materials from the feed stream.

The TANA Shark is available with a plug-in rotorscreen to further optimize the end product sizewhen treating certain types of materials.

TANA Shark Designed To Be Simple And Strong

The simplicity of the TANA Sharks structure allowsthe removal and re-installation of any componentwithout the need for major disassembly. Forexample, the conveyor may be quickly uncoupledand removed as a complete unit. The frameworkmaterials are high-quality steel for easier weldingand maintenance. All wear parts are made of thevery durable Hardox 500 steel.

8

Serviceability Is Key to Productivity

The ease of service and maintenance of a shredderin hard, dirty operative conditions is one of themost important key factors. The TANA Sharkaddresses these issues by having the diesel engine, the radiators and coolers, and the filter sets fittedin very service-friendly locations. The roomy enginebay provides an ideal environment for carryingout the scheduled servicing. The pre-screening ofthe airflow to the radiators and an oversized engineair filter greatly reduce the daily service attentionrequired.

The rotor, the shredding tools and the countertools are all easily accessible once the countertool panel is opened to serve as the serviceplatform. Also, fire safety is a key issue whenoperating in dry and dusty conditions. The low-speed rotor of the TANA Shark minimizes sparksand the bolt-on wear parts make welding workunnecessary in site conditions.
