MBSE is systems engineering, aided by a system model MBSE formalizes part of systems engineering A system model … helps manage complexity and risk improves communication within a team and with stakeholders provides a consistent definition of the system that integrates information from discipline models supports analyses (if organized appropriately !.... Concurrent Engineering !..) could helps couple technical design to programmatics (thanks the method) Utilization of a semantic language: Generic objects (Function, component, requirement…) to describe the system Strong formalization of system data (functions, products, interfaces…) reducing ambiguities Numerical model enabling connexion to others tools (DOORS, simulation…) Man Machine Interface : block-diagram Tends to be a common engineering language Strong requirement: system engineering tools must be as easy-friendly as possible (Model Based is simple, System Engineering not…) Unique model but multiple diagrams supporting different viewpoints Diagrams are consistent between each others Unique model becomes the exhaustive reference for system engineers and disciplines Numerical reviews become more and more possible Documentation (Word, Excel, html…) is generated thanks to the model which guarantees the consistency. SYSTEM ENGINEERING FOR A6: OVERVIEW

A6 Launch System A6 is structured in Main Function (MF)

They are in charge of:

• Definition of A6 life phases• Functional analysis at MF level• Allocation of IRD1/2, IRD1/3, and SRD

requirements allocation up to the launcher products• Writing of TRS in DOORS, which is currently

structured by MF functional analysis

Ariane 6 Launcher System functional architecture (the functions the system must perform) has been structured through Main Functions to gather the main services to be provided by the system to support the fulfilment of mission objectives and associated performances.



SYSTEM ENGINEERING FOR A6: FUNCTIONAL UNITSThe breakdown of the functional architecture on a defined number of Functional Units has been performed to have a low coupling between them, each one representing a set of HW and SW products in coherence to provide related functions and services.

A Functional Unit consists of :

• An HW architecture, meaning equipment, part of equipment (sensors, avionics treatment, actuators), supporting the related FU services.

• a Software part in charge of the FU management and FU algorithms, so called FU Software, in interface with the HW part (for commands and acquisitions)

Models have been put in place to support FU method deployment (model begin in 2016)

• Capella: functional and hardware architectures definition, process description

• Rhapsody: SW architecture definition
