Power OnTo turn the RX75 PLUS on, simply press thePower button on the RX75 PLUS’s Display/Controller. When you turn the RX75 PLUSon, it goes through a sequence of alerts.

If you prefer, you may program yourRX75 PLUS for a shorter power-on sequence.See the Programming section for details.

Power-on indicationAfter RX75 PLUS’s start-up sequence iscomplete, the matrix display will show“Highway,” “AutoScan,” or “City” to showwhich sensitivity mode is selected.

If you prefer, you can select alternatepower-on displays. See the Programmingsection for details.

AutoMuteYour RX75 PLUS has our patentedAutoMute feature. After the RX75 PLUSalerts you to a radar encounter at yourselected volume level, it automaticallyreduces the volume to a lower level. Thiskeeps you informed without theannoyance of a continuous full-volume alert.

If you prefer, you can turn theAutoMute feature off. See the Programmingsection for details.

Volume/MuteThe VOL/MUTE Button, located on RX75PLUS’s front panel, or the installed RemoteMute button, allows you to adjust the audiolevel.

To change the volume level, simplypress either button and hold. An audibletone will be generated, and the display willprovide a bar graph for the volume level. When your preferred audio level is reached, simply release the button. Your RX75 PLUSstores this setting in memory, even whenthe power is turned off.

To mute the audio for a single specificsignal, briefly press the VOL/MUTE buttonon the display controller, or the installedRemote Mute Button during an alert. Afterthat radar encounter has passed, the volumelevel will automatically reset and the audiowill alert you to the next encounter.

Remote Mute Button/Laser Blocking OffWhen the Laser Blockers are turned on, (seeProgramming section) the Remote Mutebutton can be used to manually stop“blocking” once youhave correctedyour speed.Simply press theRemote Mutebutton twiceduring the “LaserBlocking” message, and the LaserBlocker’s will cease to transmit. TheLaser Blocker’s will cease to transmitfor one minute. Once this time hasexpired, the Laser Blocker’s will auto-matically reset, and return to their activestate. A reset message will be displayed toverify and acknowledge the reset.

Controls and Features

Highway / AutoScan / City SwitchThe “City” button selects the RX75 PLUS’ssensitivity. We recommend the “AutoScan”mode for most driving.

The RX75 PLUS’s exclusive AutoScanmode provides long-range warning, withminimum false alarms. In this mode, theRX75 PLUS’s internal computer continu-ously analyzes all incoming signals and intelligently adjusts the sensitivity – eliminating the majority of false alarms.

You can also select conventional“Highway” and “City” modes. When drivingin urban areas where annoying X-bandintrusion alarms and door openers arecommon, City Mode can be engaged tolower X-band sensitivity and reduce X-bandalerts. Full sensitivity is maintained on allother bands. You can customize the RX75PLUS’s City Mode sensitivity. See theProgramming section for details.

Display BrightnessThe RX75 PLUS’s display brightness is auto-matically adjusted to suit ambient lightconditions in your vehicle. (The light sensoris located inside the text display window)

If you prefer, you can program yourRX75 PLUS for a fixed brightness level(Maximum, Medium, Minimum, or Dark).See the Programming section for details.

Dark ModeIf you set the RX75 PLUS to its Dark Modeusing the Programming feature, the RX75PLUS changes to a very inconspicuouspower-on indication: a very dim “AD,”“HD,” or “CD.” (In this display, the A, H, orC indicates AutoScan, Highway, or City, andthe D indicates Dark.)

When the RX75 PLUS is in Dark Mode, the display will not show visual alerts whenit detects signals. Only the audible alert willtell you of detected signals. See theProgramming section for more details.

Audible AlertsFor Radar signals:The RX75 PLUS uses a Geiger-counter-likesound to indicate the signal strength andtype of radar signal being encountered.

When you encounter radar, a distinctaudible alert will sound and occur faster asthe signal gets stronger. This allows you tojudgethe distance from the signal source withouttaking your eyes from the road. Each bandhas a distinct tone for easy identification.

X-band = chirpingK-band = buzzingKa-band = double-chirp

For Laser signals:Since Laser signals are a possible threat

no matter how weak, the RX75 PLUS alertsyou to all laser signals with a full laser alert.

6 7

Controls and Features Controls and Features

For Safety signals:If you have turned on the SWS detec-

tion in the RX75 PLUS’s programming, itwill alert you to these signals with a double-beep tone, and a corresponding textmessage. A complete listing of the textmessages is on page 19.

If you haven’t programmed your RX75PLUS to decode these safety signals (seepages 9, 13, 19), it will still detect them asK-band radar signals.

Signal Strength MeterThe RX75 PLUS’s matrix display consists of280 individual LED’s, to provide an intuitiveultra-bright display of signal strength andtext messages.

When the RX75 PLUS detects radar, itdisplays the band of the radar signal (X, K,or Ka), and a precise bar-graph of signalstrength.

Threat Display™

The RX75 PLUS’s exclusive Threat Display™

option is an advanced display for experi-enced detector users. Please use the RX75PLUS for a few weeks to get fully familiarwith its other features before using itsThreat Display™.

To use the Threat Display™ instead ofthe standard bar-graph signal strengthmeter, you must select Threat Display™ inRX75 PLUS’s Programming (see pages 9-13).

Threat Display™ simultaneously tracksmultiple radar signals and provides the rela-tive signal strength for each signal received.

Threat Display™ can help you spot achange in your normal driving environment;for example, a traffic radar unit being operated in an area where there arenormally other signals present.

The Threat Display™ is actually a miniature spectrum analyzer. It shows theradar band, and its relative signal strength.

KA9 K1 X5Above is the Threat Display™ if the

RX75 PLUS was detecting 1 strong Ka-band, 1 weak K-band, and a medium X- band signal.

As you can see, there are numericvalues for signal strength after each banddesignator. The higher the number, thestronger the signal.

Note: If you use Threat Display™, thebrief signal shown in the power-onsequence when you turn on your RX75PLUS will also be in Threat Display™: an “X”with descending numeric value.

A few more examples will help youbetter see how the Threat Display™ works.

K9 X2Here Threat Display™ shows 1 strong

K-band signal, and a weak X-band signal.

Controls and Features

KA1 X1Here Threat Display™ shows 1 weak

Ka-band signal, and a weak X-bandsignal.

XOn very weak signals, there will not

be a number at all. This shows a veryweak X-band signal.

Threat Display™ DetailsThe band designators (X, K, Ka) will

stay on the display for a few seconds afterthe signal has passed. This allows you to seewhat the unit detected, even on very briefsignals.

However, the numbers representingthe signal strength continuously change(several times a second) to give you acontinuous view of the signal strength of allradar signals present.

TechDisplayThe RX75 PLUS’s new TechDisplay optionis also designed for the advanced detectoruser. In this mode, the RX75 PLUS willdisplay the actual numeric radar frequencybeing received.

K 24.150Display shows a K-band signal at

24.150 GHz

Ka34.700Display shows a Ka-band signal at

34.700 GHz

X 10.525Display shows an X-band signal at

10.525 GHz

Note: Even long-time detector users willrequire a significant amount of time toget familiar with this new level ofinformation.

Laser BlockingYour Bel Pro Remote is equipped with integrated Laser Blocker’s, making it the ultimate defense against laser guns.

Under the “Laser” option in the Bandscategory, the Laser Blocker’s can beprogrammed to receive only, or “Block” anincoming laser signal.

During a laser alert, the display willshow “Front” “Lsr Blck” when a signal isreceived from the front, or “Rear” “Lsr Blck”when a signal is received from the rear. Thismessage will be accompanied by the normalLaser alert tone.

Interpreting Alerts Interpreting Alerts

14 15

Although the RX75 PLUS has a comprehensive warning system and thishandbook is as complete as we can make it,only experience will teach you what toexpect from your RX75 PLUS and how tointerpret what it “tells” you. The radar alertsyou receive are affected by the specific type

of radar being used, the type of transmission(continuous or instant-on) and the locationof the radar source.

The following examples will give youan introduction to understanding the RX75PLUS’s warning system for radar, laser andsafety alerts.

Explanation

You are approaching a continuous radarsource aimed in your direction.

An instant-on radar source is being usedahead of you and out of your view.

An instant-on radar source or laser source isbeing used nearby. This kind of alertrequires immediate attention!

Laser is being used in the area. Because laseris inherently difficult to detect, any laseralert may indicate a source very close by.

A moving patrol car with continuous radaris overtaking you from behind. Becausethese signals are reflected (reflections areincreased by large objects), they may or maynot eventually blend into a solid tone evenwhen the patrol car is directly behind you.

Explanation

You are approaching a radar unit concealedby a hill or an obstructed curve.

A patrol car is travelling in front of you witha radar source aimed forward. Becausesignals are sometimes reflected off of largeobjects and sometimes not, the alerts mayseem inconsistent.

A patrol car is approaching from the otherdirection, sampling traffic with instant-onradar. Such alerts should be taken seriously.

You are driving through an area populatedwith radar motion sensors (door openers, burglar alarms, etc.). Since these transmittersare usually contained inside buildings oraimed toward OR away from you, they aretypically not as strong or lasting as a realradar encounter.

CAUTION: Since the characteristics ofthese alerts may be similar to some ofthe preceding examples, over confidence in an unfamiliar area can bedangerous. Likewise, if an alert in acommonly traveled area is suddenlystronger or on a different band thanusual, speed radar may be set upnearby.

Alert

The RX75 PLUS begins to sound slowly, then the rate of alert increases until the alertbecomes a solid tone. The Signal Meterramps accordingly.

The RX75 PLUS emits short alerts for a fewseconds and then falls silent only to brieflyalert and fall silent again.

The RX75 PLUS suddenly sounds a contin-uous tone for the appropriate bandreceived. All segments in the Signal StrengthMeter are lit.

A brief laser alert.

The RX75 PLUS receives weak signals. These signals may be a little stronger as youpass large, roadside objects. The signalsincrease in frequency.

Alert

The RX75 PLUS alerts slowly for awhile andthen abruptly jumps to a strong alert.

The RX75 PLUS alerts intermittently. Rateand strength of alerts may be consistent orvary wildly.

The RX75 PLUS alerts intermittently. Rateand strength of signal increases with eachalert.

The RX75 PLUS gives an X-band alert intermittently.

How Radar Works How Laser Works

16 17

How Radar WorksTraffic radar, which consists of microwaves, travels in straight lines and is easily reflectedby objects such as cars, trucks, evenguardrails and overpasses. Radar works bydirecting its microwave beam down theroad. As your vehicle travels into range, themicrowave beam bounces off your car, andthe radar antenna looks for the reflections.Using the Doppler Principle, the radarequipment then calculates your speed bycomparing the frequency of the reflectionof your car to the original frequency of thebeam sent out.

Traffic radar has limitations, the mostsignificant of these being that it typically canmonitor only one target at a time. If there ismore than one vehicle within range, it is upto the radar operator to decide which targetis producing the strongest reflection. Sincethe strength of the reflection is affected byboth the size of the vehicle and its proximity to the antenna, it is difficult forthe radar operator to determine if the signalis from a sports car nearby or a semi-truckseveral hundred feet away.

How Laser (Lidar) WorksLaser speed detection is actually LIDAR(Light Detection And Ranging). LIDAR gunsproject a beam of invisible infrared light. The signal is a series of very short infraredlight energy pulses which move in a straightline, reflecting off your car and returning tothe gun. LIDAR uses these light pulses tomeasure the distance to a vehicle. Speed isthen calculated by measuring how quicklythese pulses are reflected given the knownspeed of light.

LIDAR (or laser) is a newer technologyand is not as widespread as conventionalradar; therefore, you may not encounterlaser on a daily basis. And unlike radardetection, laser detection is not prone to“false” alarms. Because LIDAR transmits amuch narrower beam than does radar, it ismuch more accurate in its ability todistinguish between targets and is also moredifficult to detect. As a result, even thebriefest laser alert should be takenseriously.

There are limitations to LIDAR equipment. LIDAR is much more sensitiveto weather conditions than RADAR, and aLIDAR gun’s range will be decreased byanything affecting visibility such as rain, fog,or smoke. A LIDAR gun cannot operatethrough glass and it must be stationary inorder to get an accurate reading.

Because LIDAR must have a clear lineof sight and is subject to cosine error (aninaccuracy which increases as the anglebetween the gun and the vehicle increases)police typically use LIDAR equipmentparallel to the road or from an overpass.LIDAR can be used day or night.

Radar range also depends on the powerof the radar equipment itself. The strengthof the radar unit’s beam diminishes withdistance. The farther the radar has to travel, the less energy it has for speed detection.Because intrusion alarms and motionsensors often operate on the samefrequency as X-Band radar, your The RX75PLUS will occasionally receive non-policeradar signals. Since these X-Band transmitters are usually contained inside ofbuildings or aimed toward the ground, theywill generally produce much weaker readings than will a true radar encounter. As you become familiar with the sources ofthese pseudo alarms in your daily driving, they will serve as confirmation that yourThe RX75 PLUS’s radar detection abilitiesare fully operational.

How Safety Warning Systems WorksSafety Warning Systems, or SWS, is amodified K-band radar signal used totransmit important driving related information.

From the factory, your RX75 PLUS isprogrammed with SWS turned ON. If SWS isnot used in your area, you can simply turnSWS reception OFF by using the RX75PLUS’s Programming feature.

The SWS system has 64 possiblemessages (60 allocated). The SWS messagesyour RX75 PLUS can decode and display arelisted on the facing page.

Note: Some of the safety messages havebeen condensed, so each message can bedisplayed on one or two screens on theRX75 PLUS’s eight character display.

Since Safety radar technology isrelatively new and the number of transmitters in operation is not yetwidespread, you will not receive Safetysignals on a daily basis and should not besurprised to encounter emergency vehicles, road hazards and railroad crossings that areunequipped with these transmitters and, therefore, fail to provide a signal. As Safetytransmitters become more prevalent (thenumber of operating transmitters is growingevery day), these Safety radar signals willbecome more common.
