    From now on the heap is shifted with a turner three times per week. The condition of the

    heap and the progress of rotting are examined and documented every day. For this the de-

    termining benchmark is the temperature in the core of the heap. The turning processes are

    organized in a way that ensures a core temperature of about 50 70 C even with cold

    weather that should be kept by the heap as long as possible. It is not necessary to irrigate

    the heaps. Depending on the weather the heaps reach maturity after about 6 10 weeks.

    Frequent turning processes produce a very loose and fine compost structure and a final

    weight of about 0.6 t/m.

    Exclusively employees from the sewage treatment plant are working at the compost plant. All

    machines, except the turner, are available at the sewage treatment plant and are jointly util-

    ized. At present the product is delivered loosely and unscreened for agricultural purposes.

    In return the agriculturist supplies the straw that is necessary for the composting process.

    About 10,000 t of compost are produced annually.

    It is planned to erect a rotting hall for a more effective working of the rotting surface, inde-pendently from the weather. Due to the good quality of the product profitable markets are

    expected in the future. It is aspired to use the product in horticulture and in communal as well

    as in private sectors. The acquisition of a mobile screener is considered for these purposes.
