Modernity in perspective

Modern is a word uttered by many peoples in describing our current world today.it is not just a mere word which filling the empty blank in our vocabulary but it was something bigger that describing how peoples living nowadays.there is a lot of perspective made by scholars;either the westerners or Islamic,to give effect to the word of modern.Modernity was not something new to us.it had happened a long way back in time.modernity which comes from root word modern means characteristic or expressive of recent times or the present; contemporary or up-to-date: a modern lifestyle; a modern way of thinking.Modernity in oxford dictionaries give meaning the quality or condition of being modern1.Modern was not only about urban energies,capitalist structures of life or geopolitical matrix from mid-nineteenth century,but the effect and changes in identities and subjectivities by emergence of individualism and interiority.2 We might see that modernity was an ideological instrument in changing the way of people thinking.Peoples would care about being modern in their life by imitating their current lifestyle.This is what been told in modernity;being contemporary and up-to-date.

Modernization of islam

We might see there was a lot of changes that being happened in our Muslim world.The muslims no longer much abide by the Shari'ah,they are scattered with different ideology and lifestyle which encompasses every aspects of their life.David Kolb explained us that modernity takes place largely through increased

rationalization. Rationality denotes following a rule as opposed to acting on

impulse or at random. Rationality means consistency in linking our thoughts or statements, creating the logical order of premise to conclusion. It also means consistency in linking our actions, creating the efficient order of means to end.3However,the Muslims are not living by only rational;they are abide by the Shari'ah and what is contained in the Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet.They believes in unseen world and the hereafter which are not rational to the modernist;which being regarded as imaginary of the Muslims. Islam can modernize and accept the new, even from outside its own tradition. This is achieved through qiyas or analogy. A situation arises for which there is no obvious textual solution. A Muslim could seek analogous situations in the life of the Prophet, apply the principles of Shari'ah and so extend the law.4For the modernist,they called this as an orthodoxology.They way of their rational thinking give them value of man equal to the god.This is a sin and cannot be accepted in Islam.This modern man has put

the sovereignty of god in the place sovereignty of man.5In other words,man is equal to the god.For instance,there are some of the muslims who unconsciously practicising what been believe by the modernist in their life.

Education.

It was no longer writing using chalk and the blackboard.Easier instruments were made to facilitate mankind in learning a new chapter of discovery in their life.Advancing in technologies creating a new devices for human to use not only communication,works but also in education.
