DESCRIPTION
This modiÞcation kit provides instructions and parts to install the AMSAFE Inßatable Restraint System on thecrew seats and the bench seat.
NOTE: AMSAFE website www.amsafeaviation.com allows Cessna Service Stations to access AMSAFEservice information documents that are necessary to maintain the inßatable restraints. ReferenceSNL04-11 for instructions for registering to the website.
NOTE: The AMSAFE 508822-201-XXXX Pilot, Copilot and/or 508822-202-XXXX Bench Seat STC InßatableRestraint System Installation Kit must be installed with this modiÞcation kit. Refer to the MaterialInformation section for detailed information.

ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS1. Electrically ground the airplane and turn all switches to the "OFF" position. If external power is connected
to the airplane, disconnect external power from receptacle.
2. Remove the battery access panel and disconnect the airplane battery. (Refer to the Model 182/T182Series 1997 and On Maintenance Manual, Chapter 24, Electrical Power.)
3. Attach maintenance warning tags to the battery and external power receptacle with the followinginstruction: DO NOT CONNECT ELECTRICAL POWER - MAINTENANCE IN PROGRESS.NOTE: Go to Step 4 to install the crew seat restraints, or go to Step 8 to install the bench seat restraints.
NOTE: It is not permissible to install the bench seat inßatable restraints only. The crew seat inßatablerestraints must be installed before or at the same time.
4. Remove the overhead console. (Refer to the Model 182/T182 Series 1997 and On Maintenance Manual,Chapter 25, Flight/Passenger Compartment - Maintenance Practices.)
5. Remove the seat belt/restraint assemblies from the crew seats. (Refer to the Model 182/T182 Series 1997and On Maintenance Manual, Chapter 25, Flight/Passenger Compartment - Maintenance Practices.)
A. Remove and keep the bolts, washers, and spacers from the seat belt/restraint assemblies.
B. Discard the nuts.
6. Remove the crew seats as necessary. (Refer to the Model 182/T182 Series 1997 and On MaintenanceManual, Chapter 25, Flight/Passenger Compartment - Maintenance Practices.)
A. Remove and keep the bolts, washers and spacers that attach the crew seats to the ßoorboardseat rails.
B. Discard the nuts.
NOTE: Refer to AMSAFE Supplemental Maintenance Manual E508804 for installation, testing andlimitations of the system.
7. (Refer to Figure 1.) Install the AMSAFE Inßatable Restraint System on the crew seats.
A. Remove the carpet on the ßoor from under the crew seat area.
B. (Refer to Figure 1, View D-D.) Remove the ßoorboard access plates as necessary to install theAMSAFE EMA and wire harness. (Refer to the Model 182/T182 Series 1997 and On MaintenanceManual, Chapter 6, Dimensions and Areas.)
C. Make two 1.00-inch diameter cutouts in the ßoorboard for AMSAFE wiring to pass through and underthe ßoorboard and make modiÞcations to the holes as shown. Deburr the holes and apply Alodineand corrosion-resistant primer to bare metal.
D. (Refer to Figure 1, Views D-D and E-E.) Drill and deburr the eight Number 21 (0.159-inch diameter)holes that will be used to put straps through the ßoorboard to tie down the AMSAFE wire as shown.Apply Alodine and corrosion-resistant primer to bare metal.
E. (Refer to Figure 1, Views D-D, E-E, F-F and H-H.) Install the 0719092-5 EMA Stiffener under theßoorboard in the location shown.
(1) Hold the 0719092-5 EMA Stiffener against the bottom of the ßoorboard and against thebulkheads.
(2) Drill Number 28 (0.140-inch diameter) holes through the six Number 40 pilot holes in the longßanges of the 0719092-5 EMA Stiffener and through the adjacent bulkheads. Deburr the sixholes and apply Alodine and corrosion-resistant primer to bare metal.
(3) Install a MS35206-230 Screw, NAS1149FN616P Washer and a MS21044N06 Nut in eachof the six holes.
(4) Match drill the 0.25 inch-diameter holes through the four holes already drilled in the 0719092-5EMA Stiffener and through the ßoorboard. Deburr the four holes and apply Alodine andcorrosion-resistant primer to bare metal.

CAUTION: TO PREVENT THE EMA CASE FROM BEING DAMAGED, TIGHTEN THE AN3-22ABOLTS LIGHTLY UNTIL THE WASHER UNDER THE HEAD OF NUT WILL NOTTURN.
F. (Refer to Figure 1, Views D-D and E-E.) Install the AMSAFE EMA under the ßoorboard on the0719092-5 EMA Stiffener with AN3-22A Bolts, NAS1149F0363P Washers and MS21044N3 Nuts.
G. (Refer to Figure 1, Views D-D and E-E.) Install the 0719092-4 Clip.
(1) Drill two Number 30 (0.128-inch diameter) holes.
(2) Install the 0719092-4 Clip with two MS20470AD4-4.5 Rivets as shown.
H. (Refer to Figure 1, Views D-D, E-E and F-F.) Install the AMSAFE harness.
(1) Connect the EMA wire harness to the aft end of the EMA.
(2) Install the two harness wires a minimum of 14 inches above the ßoorboard, across the bottomof the ßoorboard and up through the cutouts you made in Step 7C.
(3) Drill one Number 21 (0.159 inch diameter) hole through the ßoorboard web under the pilot'sseat area and install one S2034-1 Anchor with one S1021Z8-8 Screw.
(4) Attach the AMSAFE wire to the S2034-1 Anchor with one MS3367-5-0 Strap as shown.
(5) Cut two MS35489-12 Grommets and install them in the two cutouts with EC1300LP Adhesive.
(6) (Refer to Figure 1, View F-F.) Put the two MS21919WDG4 Clamps around the AMSAFEwires closest to the pilot crew seat as shown.
(7) Install the two MS21919WDG4 Clamps to the 0719092-4 Clip with a MS35206-263 Screw.
(8) (Refer to Figure 1, View E-E.) Drill two Number 7 (0.201-inch diameter) holes in the 230GBaccess panel. Deburr the holes and apply Alodine and corrosion-resistant primer to bare metal.
(9) Install the diagnostic plug assembly with two each MS35207-259 Screws and AN315-3R Nutsin the 230GB access panel shown.
I. (Refer to Figure 1, Views B-B, C-C, and G-G.) Install the AMSAFE inßatable restraints to the crewseats.
(1) (Refer to Figure 1, View C-C.) Attach a AMSAFE Inßator Bottle Assembly under the bottom ofeach crew seat with two S1891-24 Clamps.
(a) Install the inßator bottle so the inßator hose faces the aft of the airplane.
NOTE: Make sure to install the inßator bottle in a position so it does not interfere with anyof the seat adjustment mechanisms.
(b) Put the Inßator bottle in a position so the groove in the bottle is directly over the aft pinthat attaches the U-Channel to the bell crank.
(c) Tighten each of the S1891-24 Clamps to 21-25 inch-pounds.
(2) (Refer to Figure 1, View B-B.) Install the inßatable restraint seat belt buckle attachment(outboard side), and the inßatable restraint seat belt attachment (inboard side) on each crewseat as shown.
(a) Make sure that the Inßatable Seat Restraint part number 7035-1-021-XXXX is installedon the pilot’s seat and part number 7035-1-011-XXXX is installed on the co-pilots seat.(Refer to the Model 182/182T Series 1997 And On Maintenance Manual, Chapter 25,Flight/Passenger Compartment - Maintenance Practices.)
(b) Connect the AMSAFE wire harness to the inßator bottle.
(3) (Refer to Figure 1, Views B-B and C-C.) Carefully route the inßator hose loosely (withoutany straps) as shown.
(4) Connect the inßator hose to the inßator hose bottle.

(5) Install all ßoorboard access plates that were removed in Step 7B.
(6) (Refer to Figure 1, Views C-C and G-G.) Attach the cable and connector to the crew seat bellcrank tube with MS3367-5-0 and MS3367-7-0 Straps as shown.
(7) Temporarily install the crew seats into the airplane.
(8) Install the carpet.
(a) Cut out the carpet where the two EMA cable cutouts were installed in Step 7C.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERHEAT THE CARPET.(b) Use a heat gun to lightly melt the cut carpet weave where the carpet was cut out.
(9) (Refer to Figure 1, Views C-C, F-F and G-G.) Carefully route and attach each of the crewseat belt buckle cables to the EMA cables that come out of the ßoorboard with the connectorunder each crew seat as shown.
WARNING: FAILURE TO INSTALL THE BELTS IN THE PROPER LOCATIONSWILL CAUSE THE INFLATABLE SEAT BELT RESTRAINTS TO NOTPROPERLY DEPLOY.
J. (Refer to Figure 1, View G-G.) Make sure the wire cable is installed on each crew seat so it is freeand clear of any seat structure that would cause the cable to catch, bind, pinch, or pull when theseat is moved back and forth or raised and lowered.
K. Install the pilot and co-pilot seat inertia reels with the kept 0514232-9 Plate Assemblies, AN3-5ABolts, NAS1149F0363P Washers, and new MS21042L3 Nuts. (Refer to the Model 182/T182 Series1997 and On Maintenance Manual, Chapter 25, Flight/Passenger Compartment - MaintenancePractices.)
L. Install the overhead console. (Refer to the Model 182/T182 Series 1997 and On MaintenanceManual, Chapter 25, Flight/Passenger Compartment - Maintenance Practices.)
CAUTION: ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE EMA FROM THE AMSAFE INFLATABLE RESTRAINTSYSTEM BEFORE THE CREW SEATS ARE REMOVED.
M. Go to Step 10 only if the bench seat AMSAFE inßatable restraint system will not to be installed next.
N. Go to Step 8 if the bench seat AMSAFE inßatable restraints are to be installed.
8. (Refer to Figure 2, Detail A.) Install the AMSAFE inßatable restraints on the bench seat.
NOTE: It is not permissible to install the bench seat inßatable restraints only. The crew seat inßatablerestraints must be installed before or at the same time.
A. Remove the bench seat restraints. (Refer to the Model 182/T182 Series 1997 and On MaintenanceManual, Chapter 25, Flight/Passenger Compartment - Maintenance Practices.)
B. Remove the bench seat. (Refer to the Model 182/T182 Series 1997 and On Maintenance Manual,Chapter 25, Flight/Passenger Compartment - Maintenance Practices.)
C. Remove the carpet and ßoorboard access plates that are located under the bench seat as necessaryto install the EMA nutplates. (Refer to the Model 182/T182 Series 1997 and On MaintenanceManual, Chapter 6, Dimensions and Areas.)
D. (Refer to Figure 2, View D-D.) Install the nutplates to the ßoorboard for the bench seat EMAinstallation.
(1) Drill four each Number 7 (0.201-inch diameter) holes for the nutplate holes as shown.
(2) Drill eight each Number 40 (0.098-inch diameter) holes to install the MS21047L3 Nutplates tothe ßoorboard.
(3) Countersink the eight holes with a 100° countersink. Apply Alodine and corrosion-resistantprimer to bare metal.
(4) Install four MS21047L3 Nutplates to the ßoorboard with MS20426AD3-4 Rivets.

E. (Refer to Figure 2, View A-A.) Attach the diagnostic plug to the 1219115-8 EMA Stiffener with twoMS35207-259 Screws and two AN315-3R Nuts.
F. Cut the bench seat ßoorboard access panels as needed to give clearance between the panelsand the 1219115-8 Stiffener.
CAUTION: TIGHTEN THE AN3-22A BOLTS LIGHTLY UNTIL THE WASHER UNDER THEHEAD OF NUT WILL NOT TURN.
G. (Refer to Figure 2, Views A-A and C-C.) Install the AMSAFE EMA on the top surface of theßoorboard and on the 1219115-8 EMA Stiffener with AN3-22A Bolts and NAS1149F0363P Washersso that the directional arrows are pointing forward and the connector is facing aft.
H. Install all ßoorboard access plates removed in Step 8C.
I. Install the carpet and make a cutout in the aft carpet for the EMA to Þt through.
(1) Cut out the carpet where the EMA was installed in Step 8G.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERHEAT THE CARPET.(a) Use a heat gun to lightly melt the cut carpet weave where the carpet was cut out.
J. (Refer to Figure 2, Detail C.) Drill and deburr four 0.25-inch diameter holes in the seat pan. ApplyAlodine and corrosion-resistant primer to bare metal.
NOTE: You will install the straps in these holes that attach the inßator bottle to the right sideof the bench seat.
K. Install the AMSAFE inßatable restraint system to the bench seat.
(1) (Refer to Figure 2, View C-C.) Install the inßator bottle assemblies under the bottom of benchseat with the six MS3367-7-0 Straps.
(a) (Refer to Figure 2, Detail C.) Attach a MS3367-7-0 Strap on the groove on each bottle.
(2) (Refer to Figure 2, View B-B.) Install the inßatable restraint seat belt buckle attachment to themiddle of the bench seat with the hardware as shown.
(3) (Refer to Figure 2, View B-B.) Drill a 0.312 inch-diameter hole in the bench seat 0714069Gusset attachment plates as shown.
(4) (Refer to Figure 2, View E-E.) Install the inßatable restraint seat belt attachments (outboardside) on the bench seat with the hardware as shown.
(5) (Refer to Figure 2, View C-C.) Attach the seat belt buckle cables and the connectors to thebench seat. Route the cable through the corners and attach it with MS3367-5-0 Straps.
(6) Route the inßator hoses loosely and connect the inßator hose to the inßator bottles.
(7) (Refer to Figure 2, Detail B.) Install the child seat restraint hardware to the bench seat.
NOTE: When the child seat adapter is connected to the seat belt, the inßatable restraintsystem will not be activated for that seat position.
(a) Remove the two each MS24665-172 Cotter Pins, NAS1149F0463P Washers, andMS20392-3C33 Pins from the center seat backs and discard.
(b) Install one AN4-26 Bolt, two NAS1149F0416P Washers, hand tighten one AN320-4Nut, and install one MS24665-172 Cotter Pin, where the hardware from the step abovewas removed.
(c) Attach the 7035-2090112396 (left) and the 7035-2090212396 (right) Child Seat AdapterBelts to the AN4-26 Bolt installed in the step above.
(8) Temporarily install the bench seat into the airplane.
(9) Connect the bench seat inßatable restraints wire harness to the EMA on the ßoorboard of theairplane. (Refer to the Model 182/T182 Series 1997 And On Maintenance Manual, Chapter 25,Passenger Compartment - Maintenance Practices.)

(10) Carefully route and attach the seat belt buckle cables to the EMA wire cable with the connectorunder the seat.
CAUTION: ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE EMA FROM THE AMSAFE INFLATABLE SYSTEMBEFORE THE BENCH SEAT IS REMOVED.
9. Install the bench seat with the kept bolts and washers. (Refer to the Model 182/T182 Series 1997 and OnMaintenance Manual, Chapter 25, Flight/Passenger Compartment - Maintenance Practices.)
10. Install the crew seats with the kept hardware and the new MS21044N3 Nuts. (Refer to the Model182/T182 Series 1997 And On Maintenance Manual, Chapter 25, Flight/Passenger Compartment -Maintenance Practices.)
11. (Refer to Figure 1, View G-G.) Do a seat operation test on the pilot's and copilot's seats.
A. Make sure the AMSAFE cable is free and clear of any structure and that it does not catch, bind,pinch, or pull.
B. Move the seat forward and aft the maximum travel.
C. Move the seat up and down the maximum travel.
D. If each cable is not free and clear of obstacles when the seat is operated, make sure each cable isrouted until complete clearance is achieved with all seat positions.
E. Attach each cable with MS3367-5-0 Straps as necessary.
12. Do a functional test of the inßatable restraint system with the 508668-201 AMSAFE Diagnostic Tool.
NOTE: Refer to AMSAFE Supplemental Maintenance Manual E508804 for testing of the system.
A. Do a test of the bench seat as applicable.
B. Do a test of the crew seats as applicable.
13. Connect the battery and install the battery access panel. (Refer to the Model 182/T182 Series 1997 andOn Maintenance Manual, Chapter 24, Electrical Power.)
14. Remove maintenance warning tags from battery and external power receptacle.
15. Insert AFM Supplement E508810 for the AMSAFE Aviation Inßatable Restraint in the Pilot's OperatingHandbook.
16. Make an entry in the airplane logbook stating which modiÞcation subkit (crew or crew and bench) and thatAMSAFE STC No. SA01700LA Inßatable Restraint System Installation Kit have been installed.
