This operating manual has to be read carefully and observed by the competent operating and maintenance personnel.

We have to point out that we will not accept any liability for damage or malfunctions resulting from the non-compliance with this operating manual. Descriptions and data given herein are subject to technical changes.

2. Safety Instructions

DANGER!

- In dismantled valve state, do not reach into the yoke area or operatingarea (positioners). Risk of injury by sudden operation of the valve.

- Before assembly or disassembly (e.g. seal replacement or other) the electric and pneumatic connecting lines must be removed.

- Do not reach into the valve housing in disassembled state.Otherwise, observe instructions for valve in dismantled state.

3. Mode of Operation

- The hygienic modulating valves DELTA RGE 4 are suited for the continuous control of element flows in the beverage and food industries, the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

- In its basic construction, the DELTA RGE 4 valve is desigend as on/off valve, therefore realizing a favourable diversion of flows.The flow direction is from A to B (see fig. 1).

- The housing being free of dead spaces proves an optimum cleanability. Crevice-free sealing of the individual housing parts by profile seal - no sources of infection.

- The dependence between flow and cone stroke is defined by the characteristic line.

- Distinction has to be made between linear and equal-percentage characteristics.

- With the nominal dimensions DN 25, 40, 1T and 1.5T, beside the characteristics, also the kvs values can be changed (see 8.).

- The connections for the electric and pneumatic supply lines are situated at the lower part of the positioner.

The pneumatic actuator supplies the distance and the force to open or to close the control element. The membrane actuator is suited for larger regulating distances at the lowest self-friction.The positioner provides for the predetermined allocation of the valve position and control signal. It compares the control signal (4-20 mA) issued by the control device with the stroke of the control element and emits the pneumatic control pressure as an output signal.

Depending on the requirements, the modulating valve can beoperated in normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC) design.

MFS - membrane actuator normally closed.The actuator opens by control pressure and closes by spring pressure.

MFH - membrane actuator normally open.The actuator closes by control pressure and opens by spring pressure.

To meet the various requirements, the membrane actuators are supplied with different control pressures.

In its standard design, the positioner is an electro-pneumatic transformer. In special applications also a pneumatic positioner can be used. The direction of flow transferred is increasing (direction equality >>).

The positioner is mounted according to NAMUR by means of a rib at the yoke.

Feedback is done via the wrist fixed at the coupling.

4. Installation

- The installation of the DELTA RGE4 is to be done in such a manner that the product or cleaning liquid can drain off the valve housing.A vertical installation is preferred to any other position of installation.

- Attention: Observe welding instructions.

- Before welding of the valves, the insert with actuator and positioner must be dismantled from the valve housing.A careful handling without damage to the parts must be provided.

- Welding may only be carried out by certified welders (EN 287-1).(Seam quality EN 25817 "B").

- The welding of the valve housings must be effected in such a way that deformation strain cannot be transferred from the outside to the valve body.

- The preparation of the weld seam up to 3 mm thickness must be carried out in butt manner as a square butt joint without air.(Consider shrinkage!)

- TIG orbital welding should be aimed at!

- After welding of the valve housing and after work at the pipelines, the corresponding parts of the installation or pipelines must be cleaned from welding residues and soiling. If these cleaning instructions are not observed, welding residues and dirt particles can settle in the valve and cause damage.

- Any damage resulting from the nonobservance of these welding instructions is not subject to our guarantee.

5. Maintenance

- Dismantling and installation of valve shaft according to assembly instructions (9.).

- Dismantling and installation of seals according to assembly instructions.

- The seals must be provided with a thin layer of grease before their installation.

Recommendation:APV food grade grease for EPDM, HNBR and Viton(0,75 kg /can - ref.-No. 000 70-01-019/93)(60 g /tube - ref.-No. 000 70-01-018/93)

or

APV food grade grease for Silicone(0,6 kg /can - ref.-No. 000 70-01-017/93)(60 g /tube - ref.-No. 000 70-01-016/93)

Independent of the application, use only those greases being suited for the respective seal material.

9.1 Dismantling from the line system

a. Shut off line pressure and drain off pipeline if possible.

b. Disconnect pneumatic air line and remove it.

c. Shut off control current and and remove connecting lines.

d. Release housing flange screws (8) and take valve insert withpositioner and membrane actuator out of the housing (1).If necessary, enter two screws into the threaded holes of the valve yoke (7) and press the insert to the top out of the housing.

9.2 Disassembly of the valve to replace wear parts

a. See 9.1, a. - d.

Attention: Before detaching the counternut,observe adjusting dimension of counternut and valve shaft.

b. Release counternut (10), pull valve shaft (17) out of the lowercoupling and the housing cover.

c. Release hexagon screw (9) and take housing cover (3) fromthe valve yoke (7).

d. Remove housing seal (2) from the housing cover (3).

e. Remove shaft seal (4, 5) from the housing cover.

f. Take bushing (6) out of the yoke (7).

g. Remove seat seal (18) from the valve shaft (cone) (17).

9.3 Disassembly of the valve to change characteristicsand/or kvs values (with smaller nominal dimensions)

a. see 9.1, a. - d.

b. Release counternut (10), turn valve shaft out of the lower coupling and pull it out of the housing cover (3).

9.4 Assembly of the valve and installation of new wear parts

Attention: To guarantee an easy assembly and anincreased service life of all wear parts (seals,bushings, etc.), the parts must be provided with a thin layer of grease. Do not use sharp-edged tools for the assembly of the a. m. parts to ensure their full function.

a. Install seat seal (18) in the valve shaft (cone) (17) .

Attention: Vent the seal groove by a suitable tool. Check the correct fit of the seat seal after installation.

b. Place bushing (6) in the yoke (7).

c. Insert shaft seal (5, 4) in the housing cover (3).

d. Screw housing cover (3) and valve yoke (7) together.

e. Install housing seal (2) in housing cover (3).

f. Insert valve shaft (17) in the valve yoke (7) and screw it into the coupling together with the counternut (10).

g. Check adjusting dimension and tighten counternut.

h. Press valve insert into the housing (1) and take hexagon screws (8) to fasten it crosswise at the housing flange.

i. Tighten hexagon screws (9).

j. Connect electric and pneumatic lines.

9.5 Assembly of the valve to change characteristicsand/or kvs values (with smaller nominal dimensions)

The designation of the shafts to be replaced are indicated in thespare parts list for DIN RN 01.170.2, page 3spare parts list for Tube RN 01.170.3, page 3.

a. Attention: To guarantee an easy assembly and an increased service life of all wear parts (seals,bushings, etc.), the parts must be provided with a thin layer of grease. Do not use sharp-edgedtools for the assembly of the a. m. parts to ensure their full function.

b. The existing wear parts (seals and bushings) must be checked with regard to their function. Damaged parts must be replaced immediately. (Designation and reference numbers, see corresponding spare parts list.)

c. Replace damaged parts.(see chapt. 9.4 b. - e.)

d. Further assembly as described in 9.4, f. - h.
