5.1 Types of Bituminous Surfacings
Purpose of bituminous surfacing:
shield pavement from traffic wear;
eliminate dust -> improve road user, comfort,
safety;
providing unchanging surface in all weather;
provide reasonable travel speed;
reduce maintenance requirements;
prevent moisture penetration into pavement.
