Mrs Watie found that her newly bought curtains were too long when installed on her house’s windows. She sent the curtains to the shop and told the tailor to shorten the curtains about 2 spans (jengkal). When ready, Mrs Watie found the curtains measurement is different to the size that she wanted. Explain the cause of confusion between Mrs Watie and the tailor? [2 Marks]
Step 1Explain the cause of confusion between Mrs Watie and the tailor?
1 point (the cause) – 1 mark 1 explanation (reason) – 1 mark
Step 2- 1 span is the length between all 5 fingers.- Span is not a SI units- Everyone have different body size
Step 3
- Mrs Watie use her own hand to measure 2 spans- The tailor use his own hand- The probabilities that Mrs Watie and the tailor has different
size is high(relate your information with the information/concept that you know)
Step 4
Point : Mrs Watie and the tailor may have a different size of span.
Explanation : The span size used by Mrs Watie and the tailor may varies which cause the different in curtain measurement

Bile is produced in the liver and stored in the gall blader. The diagram below shows the action of bile on fats that goes into the alimentary canal. Why is this action important in the digestion of fats? [2 Marks]
Step 1Why is this action important in the digestion of fats?
1 point (effect of bile on fat) – 1 mark 1 explanation (reason for the importance of effect of bile on
fat ) – 1 mark
Step 2
- The action of bile on fat is called emulsification- Emulsification is the process of the fat change from one large
drop into small droplets- The small droplets have larger total surface area- The fat will be digest by an enzyme called lipase- To digest the fat, the fat will comes into contact with the
enzyme
Step 3
RELATE THE INFORMATION: The enzyme will works more efficient if more surface area
expose to it The emulsification helps to change the large drop of fat into
small droplets which have larger surface area As the smaller droplets, larger surface area, more enzyme will
comes in contact with the fat compare with larger drop of fat
Step 4
Point : Fat emulsification by bile produces smaller droplets of fat.
Explanation : Smaller droplets of fat has larger surface area that will increase the action of fats which will increase the efficiency of digestion of fats
