The end result?...fantastic lingering memories. Riding through the Provence region of France was quite an adventure. The biking, although not the Tour de France, did include several days of over 35 miles per day with destination sites including a wine tasting at Chatenauf du Pape, the oldest wine producing region in France, the highest Roman aqueduct still standing and the walled medieval town Antigues Mortes “Dead Pool.” We saw a few castles, medieval churches (surprise), charming towns and Abbeys and even toured a local olive oil producer. Not to mention riding through spectacular lavender and sunflower fields and orchards, yes we did pick a few peaches. The barge provided our beds, showers, breakfasts, dinners and socializing, with of course the occasional daily war story of the day. The bike rides, at times, were taxing, especially in unusually high temperatures; but they did help burn the calories from the wonderful breakfasts and dinners, not to mention the chef’s hors d'oeuvres and desserts. Throughout the trip the specter of Van Gogh and his legacy and those of equally renowned artists was prevalent, not only in the cities but the villages as well. For those of us whose first view of the French Riviera was in Nice, we were stunned with the beauty and deeply blue (azure) sea. Ah yes lingering memories. From Nice we took a winding bus ride up into the mountains to Monaco, with its flamboyant cars, expensive dwellings, and of course, the Monte Carlo Casino. No time to win anything (or lose) in the Casino. Maybe a good thing! Only a couple of the group wrote down the realtor numbers. With a great group of 41, all of us met some new people, and forged new friendships during the touring, socials and meals. Several meals outside the barge were provided and our group leader, Mary, made sure we were always served with local French wine. Thanks Mary!! And thanks to BBSC for the great trips you’ve created. HEY…only 5 scrapes This amazing trip was 6 days of pedaling to scenic / historical sites, and several days of absorbing the culture in Lyon, Nice and Monaco. The end result?...fantastic lingering memories. Riding through the Provence region of France was quite an adventure. The biking, although not the Tour de France, did include several days of over 35 miles per day with destination sites including a wine tasting at Chatenauf du Pape, the oldest wine producing region in France, the highest Roman aqueduct still standing and the walled medieval town Antigues Mortes “Dead Pool.” We saw a few castles, medieval churches (surprise), charming towns and Abbeys and even toured a

breakfasts, dinners and socializing, with of course the occasional daily war story of the day. The bike rides, at times, were taxing, especially in unusually high temperatures; but they did help burn the calories from the wonderful

breakfasts and dinners, not to mention the chef’s hors d'oeuvres and desserts. Throughout the trip the specter of Van Gogh and his legacy and those of equally renowned artists was prevalent, not only in the cities but the villages as well.

Banff or Bust! And Banff it was. Thirty eager skiers awoke bright and early to load a plane and head for the Canadian Rockies to check out the skiing. Anna Anderson, their trip leader, escorted the group into Calgary where the journey began.

Much to the dismay of the group, low lying clouds hindered the views of the majestic Canadian Rockies en route to their destination, Banff. However, that certainly did not hinder the spirit on the party bus as the group eagerly awaited three days of fantastic skiing in the Rockies.

Sunshine Village and Lake Louise were the resorts of choice. Both provided a few challenges with dense fog, snow, and low visibility. However the snow conditions were good and spirits were high! When the clouds lifted, the first words spoken where “WOW!...Those mountains are fantastic!” With good visibility and a little sunshine the skiing was awesome. Aside from skiing, the group enjoyed the quaint town of Banff. Reminiscent of a small Swiss town, Banff provided us with many activities away from the ski hill. A group enjoyed fondue at the Grizzly House restaurant.

Many enjoyed the natural hot spring pools, while others

enjoyed sightseeing and exploring the area. All of the group enjoyed the Wine and Cheese Social, where we socialized, watched hockey with the boisterous crowd, and left a little bit hard of hearing but happy!

The last day we awoke to blue skies and spectacular views of the surrounding Canadian Rockies. The bus ride back to Calgary provided the trips most amazing scenery yet. Cameras and cell phones were pushed against every window of the bus, capturing the last moments in Canada. Definitely a trip to remember!

Bogus Basin Road Cleanup The Ski Club road clean-up on 3 June, 2017 found high spirits and warm weather as our work crew tidied up the roadway on the Forest road up to the Bogus Ski Resort. Twenty-two “brave” club members cleaned that old road mile-by-mile up to the resort parking lot.

As usual they found a few interesting items on the way. Lots of broken car parts, no doubt the result of a few fender benders this winter, a trash can top (or space helmet?), and even a kitchen sink. The group all agreed the kitchen sink was the best find this year.

As a thank you, Jane Gabbert rustled up small thank you swag items, and the club footed for a few slices of pizza and pitchers of beer at the Sun Ray Cafe in Hyde Park. Thanks once again to members for stepping up to help. Our Mountain is Bogus Basin.

Wine Bike Ride The annual wine bike ride was a success, once again. The best of this annual club event was the cost of participation, enthusiasm of the bikers, the

beautiful sunny day, the drinkable wines, the affable and gentle driver of the SAG wagon, and the great variety of foods at the pot luck. Not to mention - no scrapes.

Tailgate BBQ at Bogus Basin Not an April Fools! On a sunny Saturday, April 1, the Bogus Basin Ski Club hosted our end-of-the season Tailgate BBQ in the Pioneer parking lot at Bogus Basin.

Before long, the crowds were lining up for their tasty meal of brats, hotdogs, hamburgers, potato salad, chips, dessert and Kim Hovren’s famous coleslaw. Dave Henry and Ross could barely keep up with the high demand of BBQ. And of course, it wouldn’t have been a complete BBQ without a cold beverage in hand.
