Brief about MOIL -CSR

• MOIL, as a premier Public Sector Enterprise, is aware of its obligation andresponsibility to the society and the people in need especially in the areassurrounding its mines, projects and establishments that are located inremote and underdeveloped tribal villages whose population comprisetribal and rural population. In order to improve the quality of life in thesevillages and also of the people of different states and region in general,MOIL carrying out various schemes to achieve this objective in a variety ofareas especially in the fields of health, education, Infrastructuredevelopment, sanitation, skill development, self-employment,environmental awareness, etc.

• The main objective of CSR efforts of MOIL is to help people by providingthe much needed support for education, health care, improved livingconditions, etc., also equip them to become economically independentthrough skill development programs. MOIL will ultimately benefit in thelong run when its sustained CSR efforts will lead to the overalldevelopment of the people and the locality in which it operates andbeyond it as well. 2

• MOIL’s operations are located in remote rural area and considering theneed to improve the quality of life of this rural population, MOIL hasembarked upon inclusive development of rural areas in a comprehensiveand phased manner. In order to carry out the developmental activities ina systematic and focussed manner, MOIL has formed a separate societyviz. MOIL Foundation which carry out these activities.

• MOIL has associated professional agencies like BAIF and MaharashtraInstitute of Technology Transfer for Rural Areas (MITTRA), an associateorganisation of BAIF, Pune who have decades of experience in ruraldevelopment programmes. MOIL has entered into MoU with MITTRA whohas prepared a detailed project report for the project. Initially 21 villageshave been identified in Nagpur, (5 villages) Bhandara (11 villages) districtsin Maharashtra and Balaghat (5 villages) district in Madhya Pradesh. Thisprogramme is taken up as Community Development Programme (CDP).

A) Infrastructure Development

In order to improve the quality of life to the rural people, the Company has taken up the following works under its CSR:

• Construction of community halls ,

• Construction of Boundary walls to schools,

• Construction of approach roads and internal roads in the villages,

• Constructions of culverts in remote villages to make them accessible in all weather conditions,

• Construction of drainages, bus shelters, etc.

• Providing solar street lights.

B) Education and Skill Development• In a major step towards providing quality

education to rural children, MOIL, inassociation with DAV Group of Schools, hasconstructed a large school at VillageSitasaongi, in Bhandara district in academicsession April 2014 onwards. The schoolcaters to the educational needs of a numberof villages in this remote backward area.The school has modern educational facilitieswith 35 class rooms, scientific laboratories,library, etc. The school is managed by DAVManagement and funded by MOIL.

The Company also operates Ranindranath Tagore Schools at four villages, alsoprovides free text books, uniforms, stationery, etc., to the needy children besidesproviding school bus facilities to attend high schools in the nearby towns. TheCompany also provides computers, educational aids, etc., to these schools in order toimprove the quality of education. In addition to above, several steps are being takento provide quality education to the children in a best manner possible.

Community Development Programme (CDP)

• The CDP is being implemented with the goal of achieving sustainabledevelopment of rural communities in 21 Villages of Bhandara, Nagpur &Balaghat District from 4/12/2014.

• The programme is being implemented in 21 villages in Maharashtra andMadhya Pradesh, out of these 11 villages are from Bhandara and 5 villagesfrom Nagpur district of Maharashtra and 5 from Dist. Balaghat (M.P.) TheBaseline survey of 5082 families is carried out and based on the gaps indevelopment of the area identified during survey various activities areplanned so that there is overall improvement in livelihood opportunities andquality of life of the community.

• Out of the 14389 families of the 21 villages, 8142 families are benefited bythis project so far. The livelihood activities have been planned keeping inview the natural resources in the area. There are five thematic areas beingaddressed by the community development programme. These areLivelihood Promotion, Community Health, Women’s Empowerment,Education and development of community resources.

• Under each thematic area, there are components and activities which are asgiven below.
