1.0 GENERAL INFORMATION

The Multi channel leakage monitoring unit has two components

a) moisture element and b) sensors electronics.

The Moisture element is mounted in the area that needs to monitored for water spillage orseepage. Moisture Element is a two electrode device used for the detection of water Spillage invarious selected areas. The change in the resistance of the moisture element, when immersed inwater is the parameter which is measured to indicate the presence of water.

The Sensor electronics is a wall mounted unit that is mounted in a covered area . Thesensor electronics along with the moisture element detect the presence of water in thearea being monitored.

2.0  Description:

Moisture element:

Construction : This is a two terminal device. The terminals are separated from eachother by an insulating material. The terminals are of Stainless steel for water/rustresistance conducting material.

Geometry : Suitable for mounting on a metallic sheet connected to system ground

Insulation resistance in dry condition to be better than 100 Meg Ohm at 500 V dc

Sensor electronics:

Sensor electronics is able to detect the change in resistance of moisture element whenthe element becomes wet ( typically between 1kilo ohms to 50 kilo ohms) . Thevoltage/current used for detecting the change in resistance has alternating polarity toprevent electrolysis effect .

A reference resistor( typically 100 Kilo Ohm ) is connected across the moistureelement in the field so that the dry resistance is finite and also to detect field wiring’shealth .

The sensor electronics detects three levels of resistance

a) Dry Element –LED Color Green

b) Wet Element – LED Color Red

c) Open - Wiring Unhealthy – LED Color Amber Flashing

The sensors electronics provides indication of all three status for each of the moistureelement connected.

It also provides two potential free contacts to indicate Normal / Alarm condition,

a) Moisture element wet

b) Open- wiring unhealthy

These contacts are fail safe in nature and operates in case of any one element is wet orany one element wiring is unhealthy (Open) respectively.

The sensor electronics have capacity to detect a maximum of 4 elements , out of which 2elements are used for internal diagnostic purpose.

The sensor electronics operates from 240 V ac ( +/- 10 % , ) 50 hz ( +/- 3% ) powersupply .

STATUS OF BEETLE COLOUR OF LED

DRY Green steady

WET Red steady

OPEN AMBER flashing

FMU Healthiness: -

FMU HLT On- Electronics Healthy

FMU UNH on- Electronics unhealthy

FMU UNH (Electronics unhealthy) LED can be ‘ON’ because of following conditions,

1.  Power Supply + 15 V or -15 V failure

2.  PSNM VAC ( Moisture supply) failure

3.  Diagnostic Moisture element failure (WET or OPEN LED not in its state)

Relay output

One Relay output for 2 Moisture Element s (Dynamic for alarm condition).

Normal state - Relay is energized.

Alarm state -Relay de-energies.

Alarm state can be DRY to WET or WET to DRY or DRY to OPEN or OPEN to DRY

The dynamic energisation is for 200 ms

4.0 Installation & Operating Instructions.

Ensure that all modules of ‘Multi channel Leakage Monitoring unit’ are fixed properly & flat cable

connectors are connected properly.

Connect 230V AC, 50 Hz mains supply to terminal TS 3 .

Ensure that Moisture element Probe #1 contacts are connected across TS 3/5 & 6.

Ensure that Moisture element Probe #2 contacts are connected across TS 3/7 & 8.

Ensure that Wet Diagnostic beetle TS 1/1 & 2 is connected to a resistor of value less than 39 Kohm

and Open diagnostic beetle TS 1/3 &4 is kept open

Switch ON the Mains Power of ‘Multi channel Leakage Monitoring unit’. The LEDs VAC, +15V, -

15V, shall glow steadily indicating the presence of power supplies used.

The LED ‘WET’ glows RED steadily & LED ‘OP’ (open) AMBER flashes, indicating healthy

status of Wet & Open diagnostic Moisture elements respectively.

LED ‘B-1’ (Moisture elements 1) through ‘B-2 Moisture elements ’ glow Green steadily

indicating the normal (dry) state of Moisture elements.

SAFETY PRECAUTONS 

The various boards used in the system contain components that are sensitive

to Electrostatic discharge (ESD). The board must be handled carefully, so as

not to subject it to ESD. As far as possible, do not touch any conducting part

on the board, including component or connector pins, this may damage parts

of the board permanently.

1. Do not remove any of the instruments covers, connectors or modules

while system is in operating condition.

2. Ensure that required voltages are available at the tip jacks of the power

supply module.

To avoid injuries always disconnect power and discharge circuits before

touching the components.
