Maria - Skłodowska Curie is a physicist and

chemist. Through his work she is one of the greatest scientists of our time. She

was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry

for the discovery of new elements polonium and

radium(1911). Becouse of that, Polish Parliament has decided to pay homage to

the scientist  and  Year 2011 was announced Word year of Chemistry whose

patron is Mary Skłodowska -Curie

Życie Marii Curie - Skłodowskiej Salomea Maria Sklodowska-Curie - physicist

and chemist of Polish descent. Most of life spent in France, Maria Curie - Sklodowska was born in a family of teachers. His father was a teacher of mathematics and physics, her mother was director of Warsaw's prestigious high school for girls from good homes. Suffered from tuberculosis and died when Marie Curie was 11 years old. She went to France. There he studied, worked, and together with her husband Pierre Curie discovered polonium and radium. She lived l1867 - 1934. 

Work of Maria Curie - Skłodowska Precursor of a new branch of chemistry - Radiochemistry. Her

accomplishments include: developing the theory of radioactivity, radioactive isotope separation techniques and the discovery of two new elements - radium and polonium. Under the personal

direction of a first conducted research on the treatment of cancer using radiation. Twice awarded the Nobel Prize for scientific

achievements, for the first time in 1903 in physics with Henri Becquerel and her husband for his research on the phenomenon discovered by Becquerel of radioactivity, the second time in 1911

in chemistry for the separation of pure radium. 

Muzeum of Maria Curie - Skłodowska

In Warsaw, ul. Freta 16 is a museum of Maria Curie - Sklodowska. It is also her the birthplace. There are exhibits personal belongings of Maria Curie - Sklodowska, minerals collected by her father and replicas of chemical apparatus. 

Maria Curie - Sklodowska was responsible, persevering, intelligent and hardworking, and therefore she has been

recognised as the greatest scientists of our time.
