MMNT 20 - 14//15 MO MENT
Cruising with the top down, chatting on the cord-less, checking our look in the mirror, popping screw-top bottles and dating plus-sized models. Pretty close to perfection. This “Ski Industry” thing is easy.
That might have been us, once.
Not anymore.
Welcome to 2014/2015, the year of revolution in refinement. We’ve discovered new materials and developed new construction techniques. We’ve been in the lab, tweaking designs, analyzing the data, crunching the numbers and focusing the lasers, creating clear delineation across terrain, conditions, and desired attributes. We’ve slated more time for development, built a wind tunnel, burned it down then built it again. Sniper-style ski production: one shot, one kill. The result is our most cohesive ski collection ever.
And it’s about time you got with the program. Time you got in shape, got a haircut, bought a suit and tie, some shoes.
Keep it conservative—nothing flashy. Cut out the partying. Take it down a notch. This is seri-ous business, and honestly, we expect more from someone with your potential.
Just kidding, actually. We don’t plan on changing. Neither should you.
Stay awesome,
MOMENT

The original Frankenski was ahead of its time, ar-riving from a future too radical, perhaps, for the present. This latest version descends to Earth with full edges and the ice pick bite of Dirty Mus-tache Rocker. All-new semi-cap construction provides lighter weight and durability against chipping. Vertical sidewalls under the wrap-over topsheet mean edging power and impact resis-tance are unaffected.

Bringing the Vice to the park has always been a knife-to-a-fistfight situation—Mustache Rocker simply gives it an unfair advantage over tradition-al-camber skis. Our new semi-cap construction does nothing but widen the gap even further, giv-ing the Vice lower weight and extra protection against chipping without affecting its edge grip or impact resistance.

The more that snow levels become unpredict-able, the more the Tahoe makes sense in your quiver. Equipped to rip with a 96-millimeter waist, it’ll tear up groomers until your quads explode, but the beauty of Mullet Rocker is its versatility in all types of snow conditions. This is the ski we love for the early and late season, and it’s a best seller on the East Coast, in the Alps, and in Ja-pan, where carving is a religion. Don’t knock it till you try it—after all, nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.

Year after year, we insist there’s no such animal as a one-ski quiver. Year after year, the PB&J insists otherwise. Mustache Rocker and mid-fat dimensions must share some sort of magic con-nection, because we’ve never found a ski that can handle hardpack, call in sick on a powder day, and press boxes in the park with the same do-it-all attitude. If the PB&J were a woman, we’d try to put a ring on it. Chances are it’d turn us down.

Powder Skier’s Choice. FREESKIER Editor’s Pick. Skiing Tester’s Choice. Backcountry Gear Guide Select. ‘Nuff said? Not if you know us. The original purveyor of Dirty Mustache Rocker is still the most agile, forgiving, playful, carvacious, make-em-say-unhh design out there, and still the one knocking convention on its heels. Still a surfy, slashy powder monkey that puts flat camber skis to shame on hardpack. Still scaring helicopter moms and hypnotizing innocent children with insanity-inducing graphics from the mind of Max Louis Miller. Try it once and you’ll come back for more. Own a pair, and you’ll find yourself preach-ing Dirty Mustache conversion on the chairlift.

When we introduced it three seasons ago, the Belafonte was the quintessential big-mountain rocket: straight, stiff, and damp. For 2014/15, we’ve tweaked the design, adding a dual-radi-us sidecut and subtle Mullet Rocker profile that make it a little easier to engage. Experts can rest assured that we did not install a speed limiting device—the Belafonte is still a burly, charge-wor-thy ski—but thanks to a few small changes, it now comes alive before you hit 30 miles per hour.

In an industry that caters to the lowest common denominator, Josh Bibby’s Governor remains wholly indifferent. Powerful, directional, and damp, it is a ski for experts who charge hard most if not all of the time. Front Rocker and a relatively short radius keep it maneuverable in tight terrain, while extended taper at both ends adds stabil-ity for high-speed, pucker-factor-twelve straight-lines. It is a radical, beastly big-mountain ski, pure and simple. Stay on top of it, and the Gov-ernor will reward you. Treat it casually, and it will throw you to the wolves.
FRONT ROCKER Traditional camber underfoot with rocker in the tip and a flat tail. Front Rocker gives a ski the strength and edging power of a cambered ski, while the rockered tip speeds turn initiation, rides smoothly through crud, and planes quickly in powder.

Despite what magazines would have you be-lieve, the backcountry isn’t just an endless series of pristine, back-lit cover-shot opportunities. The Underworld is the ski you want when every day and every lap might bring different results, from lee-face powder to scoured boilerplate, manky re-freeze or afternoon corn. At 106 underfoot, it stays afloat in all but the deepest and driest con-ditions, while Dirty Mustache rocker adds secu-rity on sketchy side-hill traverses and frozen de-scents. Our lightweight Low Fat layup keeps you flying up the skin track for more turns.

We’re elated that the Exit World received an Edi-tor’s Choice from Backcountry in its first season, but we’re even more excited to show off the re-vised version. Our new Low Fat Layup makes it even lighter, while tweaked sidecut and tip taper now give it more stability through the turn. In other words, our big-mountain touring ski is now even more big-mountain, and even more touring-friendly. So whether you build it up light for pure backcountry or screw on a hybrid binding for boundary-gate excursions, going up and getting down just got better.

We heard more cries of anguish over the rede-sign of the Bibby than could possibly have been based on actual experience. Our reply: don’t mourn what was not lost. More to the point, don’t compare the old to the new until you have skied it. The new version of Josh Bibby’s pro model still charges like its predecessor. It also floats better and has more fun in powder, and can still carve up hardpack like a country ham. Trust us when we say that the Bibby has gotten better in al-most every way. If it hadn’t, we would never have made it. If you own the old Bibby and are seeking a similar feel, don’t size down. The new design may be wider, but it is more agile and responsive than ever.

When we combined the Ghost Chant and Night Train to form the Ghost Train, the result was as-tonishing pure-powder performance. After testing it for a full season, team athlete KC Deane has helped us make this ski more versatile. Slightly narrower, a whole lot lighter, and now featuring Handlebar Rocker, the new Ghost Train swings faster, carves harder, and stomps out airs with authority. Handlebar Rocker adds edge grip and stiffens the tail for landings, all without losing the awesome float and maneuverability we loved in the original.
HANDLEBAR ROCKER New for 2014/15, this rocker profile is flat un-derfoot with extended tip and tail rocker. Micro-cambers outside the binding area preserve grip on hardpack and stiffen the tail to prevent wheel-ing out in big-air landings. Handlebar Rocker is designed to surface quickly and ride atop vari-able snow with exceptional maneuverability, yet remain secure when engaged in a turn.

The Hot Mess is like that friend you had in high school: a little bit crazy, but a whole lot of fun. We designed her to rip into hardpack and bounce right back, with a high-energy core, a narrow 87mm waist, and a dual-radius sidecut that makes carving short- and long-radius turns equally easy. Mullet Rocker gives you grip on the groomed, plus soft snow and crud performance that leaves traditional camber eating from the kids’ menu. Early season, late season, or all sea-son long, the Hot Mess will party with you, hold your hair back, and never tell a soul.

Who wants a Dirty Mustache ride? You, that’s who. The Sierra is your all-mountain dream come true, combining the powder prowess of a full rock-er ski design with the hardpack grip of traditional camber. If you live in the West and need one ski for all but the most epic days, take the Sierra for a spin and don’t look back.

When Mother Nature puts her money on white and lets it ride, the Bella collects the payout in faceshots and free refills. Our women’s freeride/powder model brings supreme float for storm days, stability for the runout, and Mustache Rocker for shredding the crust under the dust. At 108mm underfoot, it’s not too wide for the groom-ers, but it truly dominates deep snow, day-old, and spring corn thanks to a releasable tail and hook-free taper profile. Adding our Low Fat La-yup to the 2014/15 Bella has made it lighter than ever and easier to swing around.

Flex most kids’ skis, and you’ll get one of two results: either rock-solid stiffness thanks to a shortened adult core, or a softer but short-lived flex provided by foam. Our all-mountain kids’ ski has a custom-profiled core of aspen and pine, which gives it progressive, long-lasting flex with-out harshness or fast breakdown. Front Rocker makes this shorty ski easy to initiate on groomed snow and stable in chop, giving your little guy or gal confidence for discovering new terrain.

SOFTGOODS
Whereas many small ski companies rely on out-sourcing to produce prototypes, we create and press new designs entirely in-house. A process that might take weeks for others takes 24 hours or less at Moment. It is this agility that allows us to experiment with radical rocker profiles, to rework dimensions by the millimeter, and to test out new materials, in order to bring you the best skiing ex-perience possible every season.
BASE
Our U.S.-made Durasurf 4001 sintered base ma-terial takes a beating while staying fast. Harder and with better wax absorption properties than extruded bases, sintered bases are the industry standard for performance and longevity.
CARBON FIBER
We use carbon fiber in all our skis, either in the form of woven unidirectional stringers or carbon tow threads added to the laminate matrix. Lighter than fiberglass, metal, or basalt, carbon helps tune and strengthen the ski while adding longev-ity to the flex profile.
2.2MM EDGE
We source our edges from the industry’s most-recognized manufacturer. They arrive from Aus-tria hardened to 48 Rockwell, and we perform additional heat-treating in-house to adjust the hardness and ductility of the steel, ensuring you get the most life out of your skis.
LAMINATES
In addition to carbon fiber, we use three types of fiberglass laminates to fine-tune the flex of our skis. Triaxial glass adds twisting strength and lon-gitudinal stiffness. Biaxial weaves add torsional stiffness. Unidirectional glass helps absorb vibra-tion and stiffen the ski from tip to tail.

TOPSHEET
We use several different types of topsheet mate-rials, enhanced with sublimated graphics - a non-toxic and eco-friendly alternative to silk screen-ing. Each topsheet choice is made to ensure optimal durability and impact resistance while maintaining crisp and bright graphics.
SIDEWALL
Extruded UHMW (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) is the sidewall material we use for every pair of skis. It is extremely light, durable, and resistant to separation.
RESIN
We developed our proprietary epoxy resin dire-clty with the U.S. manufacturer. Custom-formulat-ed for flexibility, durability, and exceptional bond-ing strength in cold conditions, our resin is what keeps everything together. Made in the USA.

DIRTY MUSTACHE ROCKER
Rocker at the tip and tail, low center camber, and two sections of micro-camber embedded in front of and behind the binding. Rocker and low camber let the ski surf and slash in powder, while the micro-camber sections create focused edge pressure on hardpack for carving.
CAMBER PROFILES
FRONT ROCKER
Rocker in the tip with traditional camber under-foot and a flat tail. Front Rocker gives a ski the strength and edging power of a cambered ski, while the rockered tip speeds turn initiation, blasts through crud, and planes quickly in the powder.

MUSTACHE ROCKER
Traditional camber underfoot and rocker at the tip and tail. Camber gives you high-speed stability and edge hold on hardpack, while rocker at both ends feels loose and playful in variable snow.
TAHOE, BELAFONTE, HOT MESS
MULLET ROCKER
Rocker in the tip, camber underfoot, and micro-camber sections before and behind the binding. Easy turn initiation, stability and maneuverability for variable snow, with powerful edge hold and turn exit on hardpack.
DUAL ROCKER
Flat profile underfoot with an early-rising rock-ered tip and tail. Designed for powder, this cam-ber profile surfaces quickly and stays on top, al-lowing the ski to pivot and smear turns without catching.
ZEPHYR
HANDLEBAR ROCKER
New for 2014/15, this rocker profile is flat un-derfoot with extended tip and tail rocker.

ASPEN/PINE
Strong, light, and poppy, with a great ride thanks to the damping performance of pine, our aspen/pine core is the foundation of our all-mountain and powder skis.
ASPEN/ASH
Ash stringers give this core outstanding stiffness and damping without excess weight, making it perfect for our big-mountain models and our com-petition park ski, the Vice.
PAULOWNIA/PINE
Paulownia is exceptionally light in weight, with similar properties to aspen in terms of flex and rebound. We use this as the core foundation for our touring models, and add pine stringers for strength and a smooth ride.
STANDARD LAYUP
A combination of carbon fiber stringers and fiber-glass sheets helps give our skis their signature smooth ride and long flex life. Triaxial glass adds twisting strength and longitudinal stiffness. Biax-ial weaves add torsional stiffness. Unidirectional glass helps absorb vibration and stiffen the ski from tip to tail.
LOW FAT LAYUP
New for 2014/15, our Low Fat Layup uses 33% more carbon and a lighter fiberglass weave to shave excess weight from the ski while preserv-ing snap and life. We use this layup in our tour-ing models and in our widest men’s and women’s powder skis.
BAMBOO
We use a core of laminated bamboo in the Fran-kenski. Bamboo is extraordinarily tough and flexible, making it ideal for the abuses of urban jibbing. It is also rapidly renewable, since cutting bamboo does not stop the plant from growing.
